A lot of the clothing alternatives have better resistance to different types of attack and can have an impact on your speed / stamina

Generally when you go into a new area and find a clothing set you should check its attributes and normally switch over to it.

I'm rocking a mixture of Yharnam hunter clothes you buy in HD and the Hunter set of clothes I found…somewhere.

The stuff you find in Yarnham is better than the stuff you can buy at that point for everything except weird shit I don't understand or care about. Poison resistance and stuff I think. Oh, actually there's a difference in 'blunt' vs 'thrust' attributes but I wasn't really sure what that meant.

How much resistance to those types of damage, I'm assuming.

tindeed. The hnters aex, which is what gascoigne uses for most of the fight is a blunt weapon, so better blunt resistance is better than thrust resistance.

But I never really noticed much difference between the armour sets. It's not Dark Souls.

Took me three attempts tonight and for the final one I did nothing different, just luck. First two attempts I never even got a hit into his beast form as he just relentlessly smacked me around.

Third time, after getting him into beast form, I completely ran out of bullets and accidentally 'bought' more while panickly trying to hit him with a Molotov (which missed). But then he seemed to calm down and let me actually get a chance to think and respond rather than just run away in terror. I parried and followed up twice in a row which brought him to the edge of death so then I just ran in smashing the attack button. I should really have been punished for my hubris at that point, but fuck it.

I don't really feel I earned the kill by being better or anything, it just worked out properly for some reason this time. Still, I didn't use the music box or secondary weapons or any other helpers so that's something I suppose.

Got to the chain-gun dick in Old Yarnham on my second go at the area. He started kicking my ass then conveniently rolled off the edge to his death like an idiot.

With a nudge in the right direction from Mr Dave I managed to avoid chain gun guy and not have to face him at all, cleared the cathedral, opened the shortcut to outside, killed the hunter by making him fall to his death, then battled my way to the next shortcut which takes you back to the previous lamp. I banked my 15,000 blood echoes and pushed on. Found the Blood-Starved Beast and got him down to half health first try.

Aye, I've tried throwing a few of them but it doesn't do all that much that I can see.

I summoned Alfred and we got him down to a third health but then he started spunking poison at me and I didn't notice my health disappear.

The poison enemies throughout the level are really annoying. Individually they're a piece of piss but it has a tendency to bunch a few of them together and one of them will get a poison hit in.

Very, very, very nearly killed the blood-starved beast. Had him down to a sliver of health but messed up my last attack - he smashed me and poison did the rest. Balls!

He is definitely doable now though.

There's a bro to summon outside his door, if you haven't spotted it.

Weirdly it makes me worse using Alfred to help. I'm better solo.

Blood Starved Beast done on, I think, the third attempt. Annoying in that he sometimes just seems to go mad and wreck your shit but if you keep your distance a bit and keep an eye on your health he's not too bad. I'm now genuinely struggling to work out where to go next as I feel like I've explored everywhere that's open to me but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'll probably go and fight the giants again and see if I've missed something round that way.

Adoor will have opened in the church where you start cathedral ward

I've found the vicar and the witch, died both times. So now I have to kill at least one of three bosses I've found. Might be the end of the road for me. Let's find out!

Dunno why I'm finding him so challenging. I think it's because most of the fights involve him grabbing hold of me, smashing me about and insta-killing me due to poisoning, which is sort of sapping my motivation to keep trying.

Mm, I was unaware he even had a grab move. Avoid his face.

I was quite pleased to tear apart the first DLC boss on my first try, for example.

Defeated the Undead Giant in Layer 1 of the first chalice dungeon. Got a decent blood gem.

I'm just putting off having to face Vicar Amelia again tbh.

Vicar Amelia vanquished. Quite easy actually. Just had to make sure I was smashing her up when she tried to heal.

For the first time I harbour hope that I'll be able to finish this game now.

Made some decent progress in Forbidden Woods. Found a couple of shortcuts. Accidentally attacked a potentially friendly dude. Ran away to the lift and he followed me and fell down the shaft. Dead.

His mate turned up at the lamp. I cheesed it past him after he killed me the first time. He followed me to the lift shaft. Fell down. Dead.

The AI is dumb sometimes.

Had a go at Darkbeast Paarl just for a laugh and got fucking rekt!

Did the witch on my third attempt. That's a really weird fight because it can be a total fucking nightmare or an absolute cakewalk depending on how quickly you find her each time.

I had one shot at Amelia just to check her out and got ruined. The range of her attacks is mental and your visibility is awful when up close, I ended up blinded by her arse fur on more then one occasion.

I never thought I’d say this but “even Myp could kill Amelia.”

It was super easy too. I suspect I got a bit lucky.

And I struggled badly with the Blood-starved Beast so

Yeah, I thought of that comment when I beat Amelia.

Did Amelia in on my third or fourth attempt. She ended up being pretty easy; bait her into the jump attack which is easy to sidestep and then you can whale on her for a surprisingly long time. Also avoid the clapping thing which creates a whirlwind effect that'll fuck you right up. She did that to me once when we were at the far end of the room so that it slammed me off the wall which emptied nearly an entire healthbar and meant instant death. Interestingly she never actually healed all that often for me so that wasn't really a problem past my initial attempt. In fact that biggest issue was that my approach meant keeping a big distance between us so whenever we got to the end of the room I'd need to try and get past her to start backing off in the other direction and it was easy to get smacked if I timed that wrong.

I then spent a while working my way through Forbidden Woods, which I was quite enjoying initially. Then I got to a section that's like a choke point with people throwing molotovs and shooting at you from above while a load of poison nasties attack you in water at ground level. It could get fucked so that was me done for the day.
