If you can learn to be the Parry King Gascoigne is trivial. Unfortunately I was shit at being the Parry King throughout the entire game and never mastered it. In fact, I barely used it and I was almost exclusively went two-handed throughout.

This is broadly how I approached it. (Well tonitrus and damage dealing gun as compared to parry gun). Same for dark soulses.

I decided for this playthrough to actually use the parrying mechanic. It's transformed some right bastard enemies into almost walkovers. And it a lot easier to pull off than I'd found in the past.

Who is this parrying mechanic and how do I meet him?

In all seriousness, how do I do a parry? Is it like Metal Gear Revengeance?

Oh that thing. And you can follow up with some kind of visceral attack or something?

Not managed that. Well, I've managed to get them to stagger but then I don't seem to catch them in time to do anything remotely visceral to them.

Yeah parrying normal enemies is something I can do quite easily, but I had to abandon it for the cleric beast as I just couldn't time it properly.

Good news! Chalice dungeons don't respect ng+/++ etc, so you can come back whenever.

Bad News! You're being beaten by just a regular NG Rom.

It's quite good for gascoigne -

(fight at about 2:30)

Even despite a few errors, and entirely messing up the backhit with the music box and also missing the final visceral attack, manage it on my first try with this tactc.

Thanks Dave. I went looking for him earlier. Didn't find him but found two areas I hadn't found before and leveled up to 20 in the process. :DD

I cleared out the rabble around the fire, avoided the big lumpen thing. Pushed on, had about 4000 blood echoes but nothing of note to spend them on in the hunters dream. Fell down on to a walkway populated by man rats, just hoping to find a way back to the hunters dream that is not back at the start. Killed by a man rat. Now I'm miles from my blood echoes and no idea how to get back there.

Turned it off

Hint - once you've beaten up the bonfire mob walk through the door and smash the barrels near the fence to find a gap. Kick in some dogs and head for a house with a closed door. Go through the house (don't go upstairs) and then up some steps. Open up your first shortcut gate.

Yeah the start is pretty brutal I think. Weirdly the game gets easier once you activate the doll and can level up and find blood shards to upgrade your weapons. Now I'm making mincemeat of two brick trolls at a time, although the weird pole beasts can sometimes surprise me.

For someone who can't summon people into my world to help or to join others', is having Insight actually counter-productive? I read it makes the game harder. Should I spend it on blood potions or something?

I might be wrong but I think that your insight has to be over 40/50 to make the game harder (something happens which you’ll know about), so you’re at no danger early on in the game.

Edit: reading up - at 15 insight some enemies will get a new move in the early game and some extra slow and weak enemies appear a bit later on so the effect is very marginal. And at 40 you’ll see things...whoooowwoooowooooo.

You can spend it on summoning npcs to fight with you in some locations. (I don't think this requires the dlc, but was patched in when the dlc was released) no summons (aside from the ability to summon Gascoigne) for you yet though.

It also makes you more immune to frenzy, less able to use beast pellets and makes the easiest boss fight in the game harder.

Ive always spent the insight I have on this game from the insight shop (fire paper is hella handy, but I think that's about it for your level) mainly as I resent it being stolen.

The Blood Starved Beast is the easiest, I reckon.

To be fair, Bloodborne is odd as it throws the most brutal bosses at you first, then they seem to get easier. In fact, by late game the normal enemy encounters are often tougher than the bosses. I'm thinking of the werewolves in the Upper Cathedral Ward, those giant blokes in the Nightmare Frontier, the mindflayer dudes anywhere they show up, those...things on the way to the One Reborn...

Very nearly killed Fazza Gazza 2nd time. First time I'd seen his beast form so couldn't quite get it done.

I reckon third time's the charm.

I got him to his beast form on my third shot at him but after that I just get murdered all to shit. I can now consistently get him to that point but after about six goes I'm not making much progress. Well, initially I couldn't hit him at all but on my last go of the evening I did get a couple of actual smacks in that so that's progress. I suppose. Sort of? It occurs to me I never even bothered to check what level I am either.

As above, beast form you can pretty much skip with music box giving you an easy charged hit on his back followed by viseral attack. Assuming you don't screwit up like I did in above video.

Yeah, you need a little bit of a gap. I want to suggest dodging into his attacks gives you an opening to do it, but I'm not sure if that's actually the case. Or just run away.

You canonly use it once per fight with him, mind.

You should be able to dodge yourself enough of a gap, or use it at a gap in his attacks. You're pressing square to use it, right?
Mr Dave wrote:

Nah, you can use it three times, but only once in his beast form.

A note on the music box: if you use it three times in his human phase he will turn into a beast, no matter how much health is left.

Editted with the correct info

I didn't know what gestures were until Googling them right there. And that explains why my character chose to SIT DOWN ON THE FUCKING GROUND right in the middle of a Father Dickface fight last night.
