ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
All this hopping over to Ukraine when the next fire happens isn't just deflection is it; he's hoping it *does* drag on for years. Along with his baffling contortions that every gut-punch is actually the people telling him to carry on he's gearing up for "can't change prime minister when our friends in Europe need us most" and a "delayed" general election. He's got a year now the no-confidence vote failed.

Ukrainia has *always* been at war with Russasia.

With all the crap around that Tory groper (a worse offence then tractor porn guy, who at least left the House) and ministers humiliating themselves as they get more and more entangled in Johnson's lies, I am trying to resist the urge to write to my MP asking if she thinks Johnson's changed his behaviour since she supported him in the confidence vote.

It’s the right thing to do from an ethical point of view.
It’s also a good time to distance yourself politically from the rapidly sinking buffoon, and line up a leadership bid.

I’ll let the audience decide which is foremost.

Indeed. When the headline is that they lost confidence in him...
When exactly did they *have* confidence?

Well this is a fun thing to see me through the remaining days of my 2nd Covid-Infected self-isolation. Thanks Conservatives! I have a bottle of Spanish wine, a nice Bobal red that's particularly good - but maybe I should save that for company. At the least I've a few decent stouts and some Talisker whiskey.

And yes, I know that until the Tories are safely shunted onto the opposition benches (preferably in the corner where the fruitcakes sit), the next PM is likely to be just as objectionable but in different ways, it's still best for the country that Johnson goes.

I keep on misreading the groping MP's name as "Pinochet" which is troubling.

Also, I'm starting to think that part of the issue here is that people in the circles these guys move in consider male sexual assault as an extension of locker-room rough housing rather than a serious offence.

They're tories, I don't think they really give a shit about anything that doesn't befall them. The only reason the ones who have gone picked this thing to resign over after everything that's gone down is that they reckon that they can say they had nothing to do with it.

Starmer got the tone exactly right today. Johnson was even more dreadful than normal, just rattling through his standard repertoire regardless of the question.

The chant of "bye bye Boris" as he left after Javid's statement was quite charming, and the kind of thing he'll be seething about.

Another five. Has there ever actually been a PM who has lost a vote of no confidence, or has every one up to now always seen the writing on the wall having been damaged in a previous one?

They usually jump, although often after being told the jig is up anyhow. Remember Thatcher won the first round, but not by enough under the rules at the time.

I've seen several dramatizations of the downfall of Thatcher on both stage and screen, but none have quite captured the drama of her cabinet telling her one-by-one that it's time to go.

I'm now trying to work out when the best time to resign is. Setting the ball rolling is risky, because people might not follow you, but leaving it until late makes it look like you weren't too bothered and just jumped onto the bandwagon.

Before there is a vote of no confidence in him there has to be a change to the rules of the 1922 committee, I think if that vote happens, he'll deselect all the people that haven't backed him and then call an election.

I think Rishi Sunak being 2nd helped there, he's essentially the second most powerful person in the cabinet. So anytime yesterday would have been the best time. Actually the best time was probably when Jo Johnson resigned.

It was a Blair-era initiative. Under previous PMs it was pretty congenial if tense at times, and a lot more in-depth than PMQs. But his predecessors would do their homework and the chairs appreciated that.

Sounds like they've got him on the Lebedev affair.
