Was that meant to be a joke? I don't believe for a second he actually paints wine boxes to look like buses. Or was it some sort of vague reference to him being Mayor of London and how excellent at buses he was?

It's just amazing to me that it's come to this, that this ridiculous cretin is even in the running. But even now nobody will seriously question the idea of choosing half our politicians from a tiny pool of overprivileged, privately schooled, absolute fucking shitstains like Boris Johnson.

Given the low barrier to entry to become a teacher nowadays, I don't think many will come from state schools.

This is probably right. To become a candidate you probably have to spend years and years doing Charlie Work to get the nod and most people simply cannot afford that level of time and commitment* without a suitable income where the future is both uncertain and not a lot of wage once someone is an MP. Having a passive income might help this, as then you get the time to do stuff.

*Never, ever, run a charity, kids. Fuck me that was hard work.

MP's basic pay is just short of £80,000 . For a job requiring multiple skills, deeply unsociable hours, very poor working environments, and in-built lack of job security, I think it's a reasonable price. Just because an MP isn't in the chamber it doesn't mean they aren't working. A lot of MPs' time and effort is spent on constituency work, which these days involves being social workers trying to redress greivances and resolve conflicts between the public and the state, usually when the constituent is at their lowest ebb.

It’s a lot of money but they could probably earn more in the private sector, as per usual.

Not really convinced that this was some sort of genuis-level ploy. "Nobody is talking about the police incident they're all just talking about how he's a fucking strange cunt who lies all the time. Win!" And the Boris Bus thing is just fucking stupid.

Goodness. Yes, I agree with that assessment being likely. It just makes me incredibly angry. So, would the interviewer have been in on it, for the question set up?

I've never quite got the fascination with what politicians do in their 'down time' as I struggle to see how relevant it is to their job, unless it's something that speaks to incredibly poor character (like beating up women I guess). But at least he didn't say something completely far fetched like listening to the Arctic Monkeys or bingeing on box sets.

One of the more curious things during the May years has been the reluctance of the government to put opposition day debates to a vote, resulting in the Commons passing things like this:

Hansard, yesterday wrote:
Question put and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this House regrets that the outgoing Prime Minister’s legacy will be her hostile environment policy and her unrealistic and damaging net migration target; calls for a fundamental change in the Government’s approach to immigration, refugee and asylum policy to one based on evidence, respect for human rights and fairness; welcomes the contribution made by migrants to the UK’s economy, society and culture; rejects regressive Government proposals to extinguish European free movement rights and to require EU nationals in the UK to apply for settled and pre-settled status; and recognises that a migration policy that works for the whole of the UK will require different policy solutions for different parts of the UK, particularly given Scotland’s demographic and economic profile.

Link to debate

The TL;DR is: your immigration policy and you, yourself, are shit.

Will this change anything? This one is left as an exercise for the reader.

Another timely and useful post from UCL's Constitution Unit outlining six constitutional questions raised by the forthcoming new Tory leader.

The Tl;DR is Parliamentary time is very short for either confidence to be tested or an election.

Personsally, I find it hard to picture Conservatives ever voting against seating a new Prime Minister (as opposed to removing one once they've started doing things), and a bung to the DUP would push them just over the line.

Jeremy Hunt throws the dead fox onto the table, but doesn't really come across as being that enthused by it:

The Guardian wrote:
“As soon as there was a majority of parliament that would be likely to repeal the foxhunting ban, then I would support a vote in parliament,” he said. “I would vote to repeal the ban on foxhunting"

I wonder Jeffrey Epstein is going to take down any other members of the political/ruling class with him as he's going down. He's likely got dirt on Trump, the Clintons, Prince Andrew and plenty of others.

Or he might just keep quiet and hope that the corrupt system he's in will exonerate him.

Or he might die of 'natural causes' whilst locked up.

Genuine thought that just went through my head, 'Fucking fuck we're fucking fucked'.

I can feel my IQ diminishing in real time. And they're actually clapping for this pair of clowns, but mostly for Boris and his BELIEVE MORE theatrics.

Methinks I'll just ride this world out to oblivion with drink and videogames.

What's really galling is that I'd be interested in hearing what an intelligent, articulate Tory has to say. I might not agree with them, but at least it shows they have intelligence, understood the situation, considered their position, and formed an opinion. This is just insulting.

On the plus side it's all pretty simple, we just have to believe in things more and dare to dream that Britain will be great again - problem solved!

I'm not sure that's been the best use of an hour.
