That wanker Donald Trump has declared a National Emergency to alllow himself to appropriate funds to build an ineffective wall that isn’t even needed, because of reasons he literally made up.

A dangerous precedent to set, especially if (as expected) the entirety of the Republican Party grumble for a moment and then go into full TRUMP IS GOD mode.

Selling arms to Saudis, or something.

I'm idly wondering if those angry people protesting by wearing hi-vis jackets fall under section 1 of the Public Order Act 1936 prohibiting political uniforms. Might be that the law only applies to formal organisations rather than informal gatherings with just a poor fashion sense.

UK MPs Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Mike Gapes, Gavin Shuker and Ann Coffey quit Labour https://t.co/HXhplLVwro

Don't know what to make of this right now, but can hardly blame them given the inadequacy of the current leadership and what seems to be an obsession with ideological purity rather than opposing an appalling government and building a wide-spread movement to seek power (not to mention not doing much to stop Brexit).

Of course, with a better voting system I'd have more confidence that this is the right approach to both stop Brexit and evict the current government.

If some Tories were to join them, that'd be interesting and possibly more successful.

My colleague Brian, who is a literal card-carrying member of the Labour Party, lives in Berger's constituency and works with her often in his role as the Secretary of the University Unison Branch.

I reckon he'll have mixed feeling about this development.

Did see someone suggesting that the TIGgers (as they shall now be known) spoke to the Tories about some of their moderates joining the party, but they’re now all, “LOL, nah we’re cool.”

In an impressive move, TIG, who say they formed a new party in part due to racism inside Labour, have one of their founders refer to PoC as being ‘funny tinged’.

But a decent approach would surely be for Berger’s party members – and indeed all of us – to show solidarity against Berger’s antisemitic harassment (which we should do whether Berger is in Labour ot not), and for Berger to commit to not join a new party and thereby attempt to destroy her own party. Is that not reasonable?

That last paragraph sits really uncomfortably with me.

Disgusted but unsurprised by the Home Secretary's actions in the Begum case. Any citizen has the right to return home and, if necessary, face trial in our courts. We're also probably missing out on a potential intelligence source too.

But hey, it probably plays well in the local Tory Associations who'll pick the next leader.

Now three tories have left Tory + DUP is 325 out of 650.

Is my maths right there? If one more leaves then they've lost their 'majority'?

Edit: Or am I looking at the number here that have already been updated to reflect the defectors?

Trying to work it out. I think you need another seven to counterbalance the 10 DUPpers but my maths are a bit shaky. Excluding the remaining Tories, DUP, SF and the Speaker, I think the opposition are now tied with the government.

Sinn Fein don't sit so 322 is a majority.
