A Parliamentary vote of no confidence in the government isn't the same thing as a Conservative Party vote of no confidence in their leader, though. Not least of which is that the latter isn't a Parliament vote, as only Conservative MPs take part. Can the latter happen while Parliament is in recess? At what loint should one stop tolerating aggressive begging and discarded needles?


Walking down the road last night and boke came up to me last night and wanted money so I told him I didn't have any change and he told me to "Piss off" then followed me for a bit. Long story short, I've asked local police and counciller what the plan is to deal with such aggressive begging.


I had a chat with the policeman dude and he thinks he knows who it is and they're working towards criminal asbos and the like. It remains a discussion point as to what help the state and private citizens should provide.

Sadly for Don, I don’t think that he’ll win over any courts with semantics. Unfortunately about 35% of the population of the USA think every word he says is gospel truth, so he’ll probably get away with it.

My current holiday reading is Grimson's Prime Ministers by Andrew Grimson. It's a collection of short biographies of every Prime Minister from Walpole onwards, each accompanied by a caricature by the Observer's Martin Rowson. Very easy to dip in and out of, and a spur to find out more about some of the lesser known tenants of Number 10.

Doesn't address issues such as capacity management or reservation-only v walk-up systems, but does set out how complex the current institutional structure is and how much would have to change to see real progress.

One the one hand it's good that there are folks slyly taking away Trump's ability to do damage, and mitigating the disasters, from within the administration.
On the other hand, they weren't elected and they are making a mockery of the democratic process by sidelining the sitting president. If he is a disaster, then article 25 him and get someone else, don't just take it upon yourself to decide what is best for the country. You aren't a resistance fighter, your are part of a coup...

Well, the person writing the op-ed is clearly a Republican who is proud of the ‘achievements’ on things like tax cuts for billionaires and crackdowns on immigration. So they wouldn’t want to go too far in discrediting the Republican Party, and is basically using Trump as a useful idiot. So yeah, they’re MUCH happier with Trump in power than the residual party damage of A25.

According to the Guardian , in response to a report about a complete lack of leadership and control during the recent timetabling snafu, Chris Grayling has said that "it's tough for any politician to overrule the advice of the professionals", implying that we haven't had enough of experts after all.
