Yes!
And at the top of Boston Common is a memorial to the 54th Massachusetts, the black regiment featured in 'Glory'.

Also delightfully ironic that Boston was one of the key end points of the Underground Railroad, Massachusetts being the first state* to ban slavery.

Great piece on May in The Guardian today.

Ineptitude? Dithering? Fear of Brexiteer ferocity? She remains an enigma – though not a very interesting one. The worry is that beneath the sphinx-like exterior there is no great riddle, not much in brain, vision, ingenuity or political grasp. Her cabinet colleagues were always bemused by her obstinacy, even in the face of overwhelming factual evidence. Her refusal to take foreign students out of immigration numbers has been utterly perplexing: sticking to it despite new proof that they are indeed students who go home, not migrants, defies all political sense.

Heh. May is indeed hopeless, and would indeed ordinarily be toast as Mali suggests, but for the fact there is literally no one credible to replace her. I mean seriously, who wants a rather lame children's entertainer for PM, now of all times?

However, rather terrifyingly, this is still by far the safest course; Corbyn and his deluded cohorts would spell rapid death spiral, and so as crap as it undoubtedly is, the country still clings to the Tory splinter of water logged driftwood in the hope of surviving the oncoming tidal wave.

The state of politics here, as across the world, has surely never been so febrile and parlous as of now. (Well, at least for the last 80 years)

As for Osborne: simmering, resentful ball of jealousy(tm) springs to mind.

I wonder what David Miliband makes of the last decade?

Bradford Affordable.

Quote:
Bradford city centre is one of the cheapest places in the country to buy a house, new research has found.

BD1 is the fifth most affordable postcode in the country, according to figures published by web-blinds.com - with an hourly wage of just £4.01 needed to get on the housing ladder.

That's cheap enough that even an 18-year-old earning the minimum wage of £4.05 should be able to buy property there.

Obviously, terrorism is bad, but there's something wonderfully, haplessly, British about this attempt:

Quote:
It is alleged that Chowdhury, 26, who works as a self-employed Uber driver, had set off from his Luton address about two hours before his arrest and he used his satnav to try to drive to Windsor Castle. After he arrived at a pub of the same name, he drove on and eventually ended up near Buckingham Palace in central London.

I assume they mention that he's an Uber driver to highlight how completely inept he apparently is at finding places and how that would make him a fucking terrible taxi driver, as well as a fucking terrible terrorist.

Dull answer: think it is to avoid defamation claims by people with the same name, age and hometown. Putting an occupation in narrows the number of people it could possibly be.

Admittedly, tbis amused me:

Quote:
“The last time some metropolitan left-wing luvvie decided to tell people in Shipley what they should and shouldn’t be doing, they were called the Women’s Equality Party and they lost their deposit at the election. I’m not sure people in the Shipley constituency want Owen Jones coming up from London to a place he’s probably never been to before, to tell people what they should and shouldn’t be doing and what they should and shouldn’t be thinking.”

I dunno. Who would pull the trigger?

If America do it they know that it will kill millions of South Koreans as well - everyone knows that it is the equivalent of nuking both countries (and possibly some others if Kim decides to go out in a blaze of glory). Plus there's a chance NK could fling a nuke into America now.

SK wouldn't do it; suicide.

China won't do it; they're right next to them.

NK won't fire first; it would be suicide.

So as long as we don't have a totally insane person in charge of a nuclear power, we're all okay.

Rees-Mogg favourite to replace May

Before reading the article, I couldn't understand why on earth he'd be anyone's favourite, but in the article it says

Quote:
The poll by the Conservative Home website found that Mogg is now well ahead of his more senior rivals for the job, David Davis and Boris Johnson.

Have they really got no-one better than these three muppets to put forward?
