It's a better result for the Tories than Labour, but hardly surprising as Labour have looked poor recently. I think if you were trying to express the electorate's voice in a single word it'd be 'Meh', or maybe, 'Duhhhh'.

Or everyone is equally shambolic. The Conservatives are a wreck, Labour are awful, the LibDems have collapsed.

Whilst the Lib Dems always do better in local elections, they had a decent showing that would translate to them gaining seats in a GE (though it likely won’t)

The trams in Manchester and surrounding area have bricks and stuff thrown at them daily, and groups of ‘feral yobs’ often intimidate and/or attack people both on the trams and in some stations. My local tram stop is regarded as one of the most dangerous on the network.

Which stop is that? I remember when the Metrolink was brand spanking new, it went live just as I was finishing college. (Early 1992.)

We were over visiting family last year and did quite a bit of travelling on the Metrolink, albeit during the daylight hours for minimum yobbage.

Apart from when that shitty festival up on the bury line somewhere is on and the trams are full of drunk youngsters that is nothing like my experiences on the trams in 7 years.

I'm not even sure that qualifies as real Metrolink.

The Metrolink runs from Bury to Manchester, and Manchester to Altrincham is also permissible.

Everything else is voodoo and doesn't really exist, if you moved to the IOM in 1996.

I mean, fucking Eccles.

The new Rail Cross expansion looks good though. Real shift in the meta

I don’t use the Met much, but St. Werburgh’s isn’t really visible from the road, so scallies probably think they can mix it up with impunity. I’ve only used it for commuting occasionally and haven’t noticed any problems apart from a couple of fare dodgers, but I’m guessing that a lot of the trouble is at night when the late workers or drinkers are heading for home.

I encountered more problems when I used to commute on the bus every day, when I was office based, which was before they extended the met.

I think instances of trouble are relatively low, but if a tram is out of commission due to vandalism while in service, it potentially fucks up huge chunks of the network and thousands of people’s commute, which is not so with busses.

It's not like you'd notice with the buses anyway - testament to how well the trams generally run I guess!

Yesterday, MPs debated veterinary homeopathy. Leading the charge against big pharma was David Tredennick (Bosworth, Con) who, in the great tradition of the practice, was being very effective by being the only one making a full speech.

The placebo argument—that this is all in the imagination—is often used against homeopathy, but Buttercup and Daisy do not understand double blind placebo-controlled trials

This was always going to go well

Quote:
Diane Abbott intervened, asking: “For the avoidance of doubt, are you saying that the disproportionate levels of stop and search exercises on black people, on Muslim people, people from south Asia, is because we are more criminal?”

Mr Davies replied: “For certain offences black people are more likely to be found guilty of offences than white people, that’s a fact.”

Apparently because they hurt Pence’s feelings.

Trump clearly didn’t fancy it though, else he wouldn’t have let his VP threaten to kill Kim Jong Un before they even started talks!

Today the US also rolled back Dodd Frank, which is the global bedrock of regulation put in place to prevent another 2008 financial collapse.

Labour’s biggest union backer is giving away a thousand tickets to an event billed as Jeremy Corbyn’s very own Glastonbury, amid serious fears that it will lead to major losses for the party.

Unite announced to members that it was giving away the tickets and even offered free travel to the event in London for those who need it.

This has greatly amused me and I think shows how far Labour have lost their way.

Scotland news now.
Holyrood is to vote on whether Shetland should be in a box on maps and diagrams. Obviously, we should encourage truth in cartography, and I look forward to maps of the US with Hawaii and Alaska portrayed at the right scale, and a far more accurate portrayal of all the French overseas departments than the Euro banknotes currently show.
