I've ditched the lat pull machine in favour of pull-ups. I feel like a proper grown-up now.

I also do those hanging leg raises. Harder than they look!

I lulled myself into a false sense of skinniness in the second quarter of this year. I decided losing fat and going to gym was easy and I could get motivated to do it whenever I wanted... Especially as all the sweets in the world appear to be in endless supply. Cock.

Work has been a right twat for months now, the last thing I feel like doing after a long day here is going to the gym and I don't have time in the morning, due to where my new site is located. I'm going to have to try extra specially hard now to find the will to drive into town at night and fight the after-work gym cunts, if I'm going to make any inroads at all.

Looking at pictures of myself from 6-8 months ago is a pretty big motivating factor. I might resort to a supermodel diet of diet coke, Marlboro Lights and cocaine... Anyone tried that? Is it better than the Atkins?

I saw someone do the ecstasy and festival diet one summer. The results were truly horrific to behold.

24 hours into my new healthy eating and exercise regime and there's a woman handing out free bacon sandwiches outside my work. Fucking bitch.

I resisted and now all I can think of is the bacon that could have been in my belly.

Well done Ange, it's bloody frustrating when people shove nice, unhealthy food in front of you.

Week 8 Run 2.
My usual 10 minute demons were in force, i'm feeling uncomfortable, legs hurting, a bit out of breath, but at the 10 minute mark I hit a downhill stretch, so as soon as I do that i'm pretty happy for the rest of the run.
20 minutes in and I'm on my 2nd loop of my route, and I hit the hills again, which usually wipes me out and it is just a matter of hanging on to the end. Not this time though, I got halfway up the 2 of the hills by minute 25 and was feeling really good, enough for me to pick up the pace for the last 3 minutes and I really enjoyed it :) I could have easily carried on for the full 30, but my new toy was telling me to stop.

Jog Log on iOS. 69p, syncs my runs with runkeeper, allows me to play my own music, has the couch to 5k plan built into it as one of it's default workouts. So i get to listen to my own music, but still get told when to start and stop running :)
It doesn't work perfectly, as it still sent my warm up and warm down info to runkeeper, even though I told it not to, so I think i'll stick with basic runkeeper for the main runs. However for my plan to do the course at a faster pace again once I complete it, it'll be a godsend for the earlier workouts :)

When Trooper started this three, I weighed 242lb and I'd never so much as run for a bus.

Today I weigh 218lb, and I just ran 6K non-stop.

I'm over the flippin' moon.

Craster that's fantastic! Well done. :)

I hope I manage to do as well one day, I was 1lb up at fat club last week and can't go this week, so hoping for a decent loss next week.

Well done Craster, that's awesome :)

I know of a few people doing the "couch to 5k" thing, but I'm scared to try it because of my Shit Knees. Maybe once I've lost a bit more bulk & gained some fitness again.

Since Monday last week I've lost 2lbs in weight, 5cm off my hips and 6cm off my waist :) Consider me re-motivated!

I went to the gym every morning last week & I'm planning on doing the same this week, except for Wednesday as I've got an exam first thing.

Well done to both of you! :)

I didn't get to fat club last week because I had to work, interested to see if I've lost anything though.

That always happens though, and you've still got a net loss of 4lbs - back on the flab wagon this week?

Final week of Couch to 5k this week. Plan is to do 30 minutes for the first 2 runs, then the final run as a 5k, no matter how long it takes :)

Looks like i'm going to be working in reading for the next month at least, possibly till christmas.
A 2 hour commute each way doesn't work well with running. I think i'll just go out once or twice at the weekend, and if I feel like it, 1 night run a week.

I'm considering starting the couch-to-5K plan, and signing up to GymPact so that I actually do it.

Not because I need to lose weight, but because I need to be fitter and do more exercise. At the moment I can barely run at all.

It's the high force or shock one receives on beginning cross training after a period of inactivity.

It's a rather bizarre concept predicated on the notion that a reward of thirty pence or so for each half hour workout will give someone who otherwise might struggle all the motivation they need to keep going to the gym.

Well done all. :)

I've finally moved on/made progress on my running regime; I've extended the time from 30min + 5min warmdown to 40min + 5min warmdown, ranging from 11kph thru to 11.7kph during the period (+0.1kph per 5min). Worst problem I find is the boredom as the time duration is increased; those extra 10mins make quite a surprising difference, especially as they are the highest speed periods, right at the end of the workout.

Still doing weights 2-3 times per week as well; haven't lost any strength or size (which surprises me), in fact if anything, the reverse. Really starting to get some semblance of definition back now, especially when 'pumped' (cue Z lol :p ) - but my weight is still the same at just under 15st.

I never really got bored running, especially on longer distances. I found that running flat out I'd get into a bit of a weird, meditative I guess, sort of state where I'd feel my breathing, heart rate and footsteps all falling into sync, then the tiredness and desire to stop would just go completely and I'd feel as though I could just keep on going (and then it would come back and I'd feel fucked but it's nice while it lasts).

I think that's probably why I don't like cycling as much, there's always some distraction. Although living where I do I can cycle for about fourteen miles before turning back without having to really deal with roads or traffic, but it still feels more like driving where you can't quite switch off in the same way.

I lose myself on my thoughts when cycling, which is a bit of a buggar as it is often at the worst time. It's fine when dragging up a long uphill, but downhill technical bits, my mind wanders when I've got to ride down a flight of off camber steps or something. To counter this, I find myself giving a verbal commentary about what I'm about to do. Which some find amusing:

"Middle ring, change up twice, pedalling, pedalling, level pedals, weight back, tip forwards, touch front, drag rear, straighten, pedal pedal pedal, down one, pedal dpown two, level pedals, manaul this bit, watch the root, high on the berms, high on the berms, pedal, brake hard, weight forwards, weight back..."

tldr: I find it hard to concentrate on things.

£350 for a winter road training bike.

Rule 12 wrote:
While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

Also: Winter bike

I'm currently exploring the value of s.
