I watched Domino last night, it's a very silly film, entertaining in a Crank-ish kinda way (but obviously not a patch on the genius that is Crank).

Inglorious Basterds was great fun. I haven't much liked anything Tarantino has done since Jackie Brown, I fucking hated Kill Bill and the grind house thing, so I wasn't expecting much but this was about 100 times less wanky and back to just being a decent story with some memorable scenes and good dialogue.

It's already out in the States. People on Twitter are going bonkers for it.

:this:

Ian Aris was right, everyone should watch it.

It's a bit like a Coen Brothers movie crossed with Reservoir Dogs. Partly because Brad Pitt is in it (and is a brilliant character), partly the psychotic characters, partly the bonkers story.

Really good anyway. I can see why a humourless critic really wouldn't like it, but tough.

I actually thought I was going to hate it for about the first 3 minutes: the font changes 3 times during the opening credits which is seriously grating, and then the opening shot is a French farmer pointlessly chopping a tree-stump with an axe. But it gets better.

Trailer for D9 looks good too.

Two films last night.

Friday The 13th (2009) - Decent slasher flick, didn't feel enough like a Jason movie for my liking. Could have put him in a Shatner mask instead of a hockey mask and called it Michael Myers Goes To The Country.

Doubt - Excellent drama pretty much ruined by the last minute or so of the film. Oof.

MIKE MYERS. Mike Myers? How the hell did he get in a Tarantino film? His scene is the one dull ebb but only perhaps because his make-up looked as though it had been done by the same make-up artists in the Austin Powers movies, and you're drawn to him going "Mike Fucking Myers", but hey ho.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I thought that scene was great, and Mike Myers added to it. He kept it pretty low key, and because you knew it was him, that made it even funnier.

I've that got downloaded but not got round to it yet. Having never seen the original (it's a remake of the first, right?) how does it compare?

No, it takes elements from the first few movies, but is mostly its own thing. The first movie is recapped while the credits roll - if you haven't seen it, pay close attention to the campfire exposition talk near the beginning of the movie.

Objectively, it's probably better than a lot of the other Friday the 13th movies, but it just doesn't quite sit right with me.

I know. I always pay for premium seats at my local Vue anyway. Also: I'm not going to drink anything for many hours before hand. I have a pea-sized bladder.

Me too, but I went to the pub before Watchmen. My trick was to not move the lower half of my body for the entire film. It went numb so I didn't feel it when I needed to go. :D

There's some danger there.

I went for a wee when I got up at 7 this morning, I'll have another one at about 11pm when I go to bed. STEEEEEL!

Requiem For A Dream is one of my favourite movies, ever. Everyone should see it. I've been trying to get sinisteragent to watch it but he thought it was some boring movie he saw once directed by David Lynch. After this was proved to be a different movie, he still refuses to watch it on the principle that if I like it, it must be shite.

I always get Requiem for a Dream mixed up with My Beautiful Launderette. Perhaps if I had watched one or both of them, this wouldn't happen so much. I have recently solved my John Cusack problem though :)

Hurt Locker: Probably not quite worthy of all the praise it's getting but a top film never the less. Really interesting and quite intimate film about a three man bomb disposal squad in Iraq, the lead actors performance is tremendous and includes quite a few big-ish name actors who just turn up for a cameo.

Oh and I've met John Cusack btw.

Yeah, only she's not so yum at the end.

Or she is. Depends on what floats your boat.

I went to see Inglourious Basterds as well last night and I must concur, it is a fabulous film. All must see it!

Also, talking of Darren Aronofski films, as we were, I saw The Fountain the other night and really enjoyed it, despite it having very mixed reviews. The plot is a touch difficult to follow though. Huge Ackman is suprisingly good in it though.

I saw Requiem for a Dream straight after watching Ghost World. Requiem felt like a light-hearted, happy-go-lucky romp after that film. Jesus.

I wonder how well some of it will stand up to a second viewing a few years down the line.

I remember being impressed by the quick cuts + SFX for the drug taking and similar things, but you see those all the time now, and that might seem passe instead of edgy.

I don't think it was the SFX that made it an incredible movie. Just the... mood.

Aye. I meant sound effects as opposed to special effects, but I think that helped set the mood.

Might watch it over the weekend if I get bored.

I'm currently watching Street Warrior. IT's clearly a movie for MEN. Some bloke who's good at fighting is roped into an underground fighting tournament because someone close to him is kidnapped or something. It makes no pretence to be anything other than a cheesy fighting film. Practically every scene is a cliche. It's amazing. IIt's also got great fight scenes. Strongly recommended if you like things like:

Angel Town
The Perfect Weapon
Ring of Fire
Bloodsport
Bloodfist
No retreat No Surrender

There's a great topic on imdb asking if it's classified R for nudity or violence. The answer is 'both'.

I found it by browsing the crap new releases in ASDA. It's where I find a lot of my crap movies these days. Of course I then get them from ("Lovefilm or some other similar perfectly legal rental service" - Ed)

This week I watched "Rebel Without A Cause" and "Pretty In Pink" for the first time.

I thought they were both really quite good and both sort of telling the same story but from different angles.

Just watched Hellboy II.

Entertaining. I liked it.

I watched two movies today by accident.

1 - The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

This was surprisingly fun. It was a bit (a lot) twee at times, and Aslan is a dick who needlessly lets people die all the time, but it was fun nonetheless.

2 - Speed Racer

I wouldn't have watched this had someone on here not said it was better than reviews suggested. I did watch it, and was glad I did. It's absolutely excellent fun. A real popcorn flick with fantastic visuals, amazing use of colour and Christina Ricci looking so unbelievably gorgeous I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It's silly, yes, and the small child in it is on par with Jar Jar Binks for levels of annoyance, but the style with which the racing, fight scenes and general razamatazz were done were exceptional. Loved it.

The Punisher: Warzone was a bit disappointing. The violent bits were fine, but even Jimmy McNulty doing the world's weirdest New York accent couldn't save the story bits in between.

Yes, but if I'm not dead you've got to assume I'm drinking "enough".
Anyway, yes, I drink a fair bit.
