Rom Coms? Hmm. I seem to be getting stuck thinking about screwball comedies from the 30s and 40s.

I suppose Something's Got To Give and As Good As It Gets were both very good stand outs from the last decade. I also think very highly of About A Boy, but I'm not sure it's strictly a romcom.

Moving away from romcoms for a bit, I saw the following movies at the weekend.

Smokey and the Bandit and Back to the Future 2 - Excellent Saturday afternoon double bill from ITV.

Wild Child - Awful American girl goes to British boarding school, learns valuable life lessons. Surprised me by not being nearly as dire as I expected. Surprisingly sweary. Very odd little cameo from Nick Frost, too.

Death Race - Jason Statham and Ian MacShane in a Paul W.S. Anderson movie about convicts killing each other in cars. I liked it an awful lot.

Big Stan - Saw half of this, which was way too much, but kept thinking "They can't base a whole comedy purely on jokes about rape can they?" The answer seems to be yes. I think it must have been a bet.

Death Race is a remake of Death Race 2000 which is hilarious and has Sly Stallone in it. catch it if you can.

Sister Act is 18 years old. And about signing nuns. It stars Whoopi Goldberg.

Despite all of the above, I still love it.

I can only assume you're recovering after a severe head injury.

Attention threadgoers! DO NOT LISTEN TO OWEN! Death Race isn't even any good on its own terms, as a mindless action movie. It's dull, repetitive and almost goes out of its way to avoid engaging you in any way whatsoever. Watch the original, at least that's funny.

I watched that last night, begrudgingly, with Miss Malabar. It wasn't as awful as I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't very good. It also made me feel quite depressed when I looked it up on IMDB to find that the lead girls are all 18 now, but they were born in 1991. Christ.

Very weird cameo from Nick Frost, aye.

Yes, I watched it because the wife wanted to. American in Britland films appeal to her. I did remark when watching it that the lead girl had been born the year I went to university. I'm so old.

Morte - in regular little internet video player format yes, it does - I thought it looked incredibly crap, actually.

Then I watched it in HD, and it looks very, very good indeed. I think it's because the CGI-ified things are fantastical and almost cartoonish, so without the resolution it really does just look ... well, cartoonish. It needs the HD level of detail for you to see that it's supposed to be something "real" rather than an animation.

Still, looks like it'll be a wank film.

Hahaha! I ended up watching most of this with the missus too!

The Nick Frost cameo was funny, and odd.

Not something I'd ever choose to watch myself, but entertaining enough if you like that sort of thing.

It was certainly a massive improvement. See also: toning down her annoying teen-American accent and spoiled brattishness.

I looked it up on IMDB purely to answer the question "Was that Daisy Donovan?". Yes, it was. But then I had a quick look at how old the girls were.

Heh, looking at IMDB has revealed that... *DUN, DUN, DUUUUUUHH!* I've seen Wild Child before. I just managed to filter it out.

I reckon the missus put it on after 10pm. For about 8 months now, I've not been able to watch TV after 10pm without falling asleep. So, I guess I'm turning into my dad!

I did the same, but with added, 'checking to see if that was the bad guy from 'Being Human'. (it was)

Me. That's who. And I bet there are several others who hate it.

It doesn't help that ITS BEEN ON TV FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE EVERYDAY FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS.

They're good films though Crassy. I hate Sister Act for being Sister Act, I hate it more because of the amount of times it's on.
