Bug Heroes is quite a fun twin-stick shooter/tower defines hybrid, and is currently free.

Obligatory Drop7 recommendation.

Nice they way they nuked everyone's local scores during the update and said it "isn't possible" to transfer them. I've had other apps transfer data. Note that if you care (what with Drop7 being a high-score game an' all), there is a cunning workaround which I've confirmed to work. (Essentially, go into the app bundle in PhoneView or iPhone Explorer and copy across everything from the old to new app's /Documents folder—all the .dat and .bak files are your scores.)

The Zynga version is also, amazingly, even buggier than the original release, to the point that I'm seriously considering knocking it down a few slots in the Tap! Top Ten next month.

It's OK. It kind of depends if you like the game or just the monkeys. If it's the game style you like (sliding dexterity tests), Labyrinth 2 and the Dark Nebula games might be up your street (despite the decidedly uncute sci-fi stylings of the latter). Labyrinth has a 'lite' demo, too, I think.

Are you seriously asking the question whether Mimi likes monkeys or not?

Post subject:  Re: iOS gaming thread of officialness

Um. Well, I know she likes her monkeys, but I wondered whether her liking SMB was about the game or just because it has monkeys in it. If it's the former, there are other, better dexterity games for iOS, albeit ones lacking in monkeys.

It went up when it became a universal app. And to be fair it's a glorious app, incredibly polished, beautiful and works betterthan the actual board to game to a large extent on the iPad.

The 360 version is complete amateur hour by comparison.

Just wish it came with the River expansion.

80% monkey likeage, 20% game physics.

To be honest, I will think at least twice as highly of a game if it is nice and bright and has fun in the design. Sure, you can roll a grey ball around a grey landscape, but it doesn't cheer me up in the same way.

That said, the labyrinth game works really well. The movement of the ball bearing is perfect and feels very real, but monkeys would make it better.

I have a full set of these:

Achvs on Game Dev Story reveal that there's a bit more to it than I first thought.

Getting 100m sales on one game is going to take serious effort and unlocking all the genre types is like playing Viva Pinata without a guide.

@Blucey there is a guide, somewhere - maybe the Gamefaqs forums. 100m sales is a very tall order unless they've rebalanced the game.

I'm up to the last mission of the second chapter of Highborn and by golly, it's a wonderful little slice of Advance Wars-me-do turn based strategy. Has some designers behind it who worked on the early Command and Conquer games, and it shows.

There's an iPhone version, but I'm on the (presumably preferable) iPad one. Free trial too.

I am now colored interested.

Whilst I think of it, those, like i, who only have a 2nd generation iTouch thingy can't play certain titles, so check those requirements, people!

EDIT: I have purchased this now. That's how much I trust you with my 59p.

Is turn-based multiplayer available? It would be like Naked War, except someone here might actually play it!

I love turn-based strategy games.

What's the deal with multiplayer gaming on iOS anyway, is it all through that Game Center thing or OpenFeint or what?

Buy it meems, you'll love it. I avoided it for ages until I played it on my brother's iPhone and then loved it.

In essence it's Tower Defence, but that makes it sound rubbish.

I'd recomend it as well if its still 'cheap' (59p) the story is that the zombies want to eat your brains , and all you have to stop them is some plants which fire things to kill them.

Its a basic tower defence game but Popcap have a great way of presenting these , if your still a little uncertain i'd say watch this and then decide

Oh and its another one of those games I've now bought multiple times (iphone/ipad/xbox)

I find Plants v Zombies to be too slow and boring. There are loads of tower defence games on the iPhone that are better. GeoDefense is better, for example. And probably cheaper.

It's a little slow, but it's incredibly charming and still good fun. Not the best game of its type on mechanics and gameplay, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend another above it.

It's pretty! And charming! No doubt - it's a PopCap game - they do these things properly. However, it takes AGES of grinding to get to the fun/challenging stages, and by its very nature it's pretty one-dimensional. At least GeoDefense breaks away from the "grid" formula.

GeoDefense is so brutally punishing it stops being fun, though.

I found Phoenix Wright to be very dull, with awful dialogue and boring gameplay. Are the props for it here some ironic meme, or are you supposed to like it in a 'so bad it's good' kinda way?
