My 360 is the mythical one that doesn't RROD. It's a launch machine and it's still running fine.

Give it another few days now you've posted that, tops. ;-D

Seriously, luck-of-the-draw, etc.

Just a shame it's the exception rather than the rule...

What now?

My 360 has broken for the second time, and I've found out that the extended warrantee only covers the RROD. If, say, your video output suddenly stops, you pay £60.

Owning both, I'd still rather have a 360 than a PS3, though (assuming it was working).

I mean the off button that doesn't switch it off, and that you can't angrily slam or even poke because it's got that annoying touch sensitive thing instead of a proper click. Even the 360's one is pretty dissatisfying too to be honest, but at least you can jab that vindictively.

Hold down the off button on the PS3 and it switches off.

I probably won't be buying it as atm, the list is MarioKart Wii, Wii Fit (don't, OK?) XBox Live, maybe resub to EvE and find a job. That and I don't really play anything but advance wars atm, as Mrs A, having moved in, we just sit on the sofa and cuddle in front of telly with a bottle of wine, which kinda fucks my 'hard as nails pirate; image I've been cultivating.

2/3rds doesn't sound like the exception.

Unacceptable still of course, but the vast majority of launch machines are just fine.

Meanwhile, my PS3, stood upright because people keep insisting that's just fine, already rattles at less than 6 months old.

This is what I would have thought, quick question though, is that with the shop that you bought it from, or the manufacturer?

My 360 (three months after launch) is still running fine.

That said, I'm not sure you'll get a enough numbers on here to prove anything one way or another.

Always the shop, the manufacturer never has any obligation to you at all, their obligation is to the shop, the shops to you.

The seller is liable for breach of an implied term of the contract (e.g. the fitness for purpose warranty implied by the SoGA). The seller can then claim against the manufacturer.

The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 have improved matters a bit. Where the seller breaches the SoGA with respect to implied terms of description/fitness for purpose/satisfactory quality, the SoGA as amended by the Regulations provides that the buyer now has the right to repair or replacement of the goods or to rescind the contract or seek a reduction in the price. I think formerly it was just rescind the contract and get a refund.

The buyer is entitled to repair or replacement if the goods do not confom to the contract of sale at the date of delivery (goods which do not conform at any point within 6 months from delivery are deemed to have not conformed on the delivery date. You've then got the statutory limitation peroid of 6 years to bring your claim), and the seller must bear the costs of labour, materials and postage.

If the seller can show that the repair or replacement is impossible or the cost is disproportionate, the buyer can decide to rescind the contract and get a refund.

As for "extended warranties", any warranty protection offered above that of (or in addition to) the SoGA can be on whatever terms the seller likes, but they can't override the buyer's statutory rights (and must, I think, contain a statement to that effect).

/potted contract law lesson

Damn you all. I was all set to take a watching brief on this until I was sure that Rockstar hadn't completely broken it. But your bloody enthusiasm has made me pre-order it. Sods.

Based partly on my own research and party a WoB thread, I bought this this week. It is bloody aces, so it is. Accepts a 1080p signal too, although the screen isn't native 1080p the very slight scaling is unnoticeable. I'm well impressed.

Several leading retailers no longer guaranteeing delivery on the release day

Wacky Eurogamer wrote:
Online retailers GAME, Play.com and Gamestation have admitted they will struggle to cope with Grand Theft Auto IV demand when it is released on 29th April.

Limited Edition copies are still promised for delivery on launch day, but those of you after the standard version may face a wait if you haven't pre-ordered already.

"We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April," states GAME on its website, while rival Play.com offers, "we are currently sold out of this item. All orders will be dispatched on a first come, first served basis."

Gamestation too, indicates that "due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version."

The Rockstar creation is expected to be one of the biggest games released this year, with some predicting it will top six million units in its first week of sale.

The retail community has been offering plenty of incentive to pre-order the title, with GAME giving away 500 free Microsoft Points to users, while HMV doubled that offer to 1000 Points as well as a book of vouchers worth GBP 130.

April and May could be massive sales months for the industry this year - as well as GTA IV, April will also see the release of Wii Fit from Nintendo, and Rock Band from EA, which was dated and priced for release today, is due out next month.

I thought that may be the case when i pre-ordered last week, its why I went with shopto aswell because its not that well known, oh and next day guranteed delivery.
Its not a very good day for geeks, stupid Rock Band pricing and now the usual suspects taking too many pre-orders than they can handle again.

I am going to wait until I see a kid walking out of the shop with it in his grubby little paw and then remove it from him as i'm on a socially responsible schtick atm.

My favourite part of GTA3 was the pedestrian samples, they really did say some funny things. I never played GTA:SA as I had vice city and got really bored with it really quickly.

I might just give GTA4 a try, the more I read people talking about it the more enticing it seems.

I want the game...and will pay an extra 20 quid or so so I don't have to stand in a queue in Meadowhall with a bunch of fuckwit parents buying it for their snotty, dirty, whining and under age off spring.

It appears I've turned into a terrible snob in the last few years.

Bugger it I've just ordered the Special Edition...none of the extra stuff I particularly want.

That was a silly thing to do.

I want the game...and will pay an extra 20 quid or so so I don't have to stand in a queue in Meadowhall with a bunch of fuckwit parents buying it for their snotty, dirty, whining and under age off spring.

It appears I've turned into a terrible snob in the last few years.

Why didn't you pre-order it from ChoicesUK like I did?

Because not only have I become a snob I am also very, very, very stupid (and obviously just skim the posts...DOH :( ))

Oh and where did the BeeX Shoot Each Other in the Face thread go? It seems to have disappeared.

(Although it's a moot point for me at the moment as I'm stuck in foreign land without my lovely funsquare sex box for the next two and a bit weeks)

And blow me (don't) if I type that and it appears as if by magic...black magic 8) .
