Just found out that BBC4 starts on HD today. Finally!

Does that mean... It couldn't be... Ceebeebies HD?!

Win!

(CBeebies on the cottage megascreen will be even scarier)
I'm glad they're trying to get the HD channels as the default. Annoyingly, you can't edit channel numbers on cable, so I'm stuck with 108 for BBC1 and some bizarre numbers for the rest. There should be an option to replace the SD version of a channel with the HD version, I reckon.
The iPlayer has started broadcasting things in HD now that weren't before, like Only Connect and University Challenge.

We access iPlayer through our TV however, and since the change these HD progs are really flakey to load, sometimes having to press the Play button many, many times.
'Hidden Killers of the Victorian Home' - a fun documentary about all the inventive ways the Victorians developed to kill themselves by. Baths with built-in gas burners! Exploding toilets! Adulterated food!
Just saw the first part of 37 Days, the recent drama series about the miscalculations in Europe's chanceries during that summer of 1914. Enjoying it so far, though Margot Asquith could be slightly more vicious.
Just watched the other two parts. Gripping stuff. Watch this.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I was a bit teary at the end.
I've got it recorded. Just need the time to fit it in.

Phew. Thought you were going to tell me who won.
Really trying to enjoy the current Stewert Lee show, but the cutscenes with Chris Morris interrupt the act and get annoying. And the less said about the epilogue visualising one of each show's routines the better.

Should we punch him in the face?
You're wrong. Those bits with Chris Morris are ace.

:this: He's even better at playing that role than Armando Ianucci was.
I want to see Armando Ianucci and Chris Morris collaborating on something again. Actually, not want, I think we need them. The time has to be right soon, surely?
It's high time that Armando Ianucci himself did something with or without Chris Morris. Time Trumpet remains one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life and anyone who hasn't seen it is strongly urged to seek it out. I'd forgotten even how strong the cast of included 'interviewees' is as it's got Richard Ayoade, Matthew Holness, Adam Buxton, Stewart Lee and Mark Watson in it.

I've got a full set of AVIs of it at home and can probably make it available somehow if anyone wants.
I don't like Chris Morris or Armando Ianucci.
I also don't like reggae or Jamaica.

Is this some kind of audition to become the new nirejhenge? If so, I think I speak for the whole interview panel when I say, "Welcome aboard!"

When making a reference to something else, there's a very fine line between 'subtle' and 'so vague as to be incomprehensible'. I'm just saying.
'Ian Hislop's Olden Days' is a fun look at how we've mined history and myth for our own purposes throughout the ages. Charming and informative.
Oh, I watched this yesterday and thought if you, Kern! Mostly because of the re-enactment montage at the beginning.

I enjoyed the two episodes I watched: lighthearted and interesting :)

Didn't spot anyone I know, though I think I recognised one or two of the groups shown.
Did anyone see the pilot for 'Game Face' last night? It's a standard sitcom, and doubtless available on 4OD.

Nothing particularly original about it, but it had me laughing out loud on several occasions, and I thought that it was brilliant. The rant at the book club was perfect.
Channel 4 have has some excellent standard sitcoms. Black Books and Father Ted to name but two.

Obligatory request for clarification about which of the two male leads you're taking about.

Not Bill Baily. I wouldn't take him anywhere.
BBC2 are showing a German drama series about WW2 'Our Mothers, Our Fathers' on Saturday. Might be interesting to see a German view of their history.
Looks like most of Only Connect is on YouTube.

Went through most of series 1 this weekend. Excellent stuff.
Just watched the first series of Luther.

Fucking hell that was good.

Watched the new Fast Show episode last night, not very good. Same old stuff and not as funny.

Agreed. Smirked once or twice but that was about it.

If you're going to bring back a well-loved sketch show, make sure that A) You bring a few new ideas to the table or, failing that, B) You make sure it's damn funny.

This achieved neither of those and seemed utterly pointless.
Did no-one watch Utopia then ?

First series was excellent and this 2nd-series prequel episode was also pretty great IMO.
Watched a bit of S1 and didn't like it.

Half way through the first ep of The Strain at the mo, and am not entirely convinced.
Interesting series started on BBC2 last night about the Stuarts. First episode looks at James I/VI's attempts to 'make a nation' out of Scotland and England.
'Long Shadow'. Interesting programme on BBC2 last night looking at how attitudes to WW1 have changed over the years.
"Marvelous" the Neil Baldwin bio pic is on BBC tonight (9pm I believe)...possibly of interest only to those of us who went to Keele or support Stoke City.

...but watch it.

/Oh and Neil will be played by the splendid Toby Jones
New series of Plebs; jolly good. Grumio is my fave character.
Shows that have restarted in the last few weeks in case you missed them

South Park
The Good Wife
Chicago Fire and PD
Marvel Agents of Shield
Sleepy Hollow
The Blacklist
Boardwalk Empire
Haven
Sons of Anarchy
Gotham (New Show)
Wrong thread, I believe ;)

However, Downton did start again last week. Woo!
Second series of 'Peaky Blinders' starts on Thursday. Can't wait - really loved the first series. Gangs in 1920s Brum: brilliant stuff.

Mate.
Atlantis returns on BBC 15th November

Ham acting and cheap special effects but I love this show!
A while back there was a good pilot for a cop show called Babylon. Follows all levels of the police in a comedy/drama way. Loads of familiar faces.

Anyway, I see it is starting as a full series soon! Yeah!
Wanted to like Babylon but it didn't quite do it for me. I felt it needed to lean either slightly further towards comedy or drama.

Great cast though.
