Fair enough if they won't let you be selective you're a bit screwed I suppose.

I've never come across a company that won't let you unsubscribe from their spam type emails while still sending you stuff directly related to your business with them so I've honestly never given it a thought. I doubt I'd ever take the risk of blocking any emails from a company I'm an actual customer of for exactly this kind of reason. 'Having to delete the odd newsletter email' vs 'possibly not getting an actual important communication' is no choice at all I don't think. Although, as I say, it's not a choice I've actually had to make thus far.

It's not enforceable to renew like that, anyway. If you wanted out, they'd have to comply (if done within a reasonable time).

I think people are thinking about this a bit too much, it isn't a big deal :D

My only issue was that they sent the renewal email from the newsletter address, which is a bit crappy.

24GB then?

504 millibits is about 4.2MB, according to my calculations.

Anyone know anything about whisky? I'm going to a party in a few weeks, and the host loves his whisky, and I want to buy something nice, but one that everyone can enjoy. I was going to go with Glenfiddich, but that's a bit too well known.

Isle of Jura is a good one and comes in a variety of stepped costs.

Do you know what type of whisky he likes? Smoky peaty or rich or delicate? If you're unsure, go for something like Cardhu or Singleton. If the like peaty and smoky, go for talisker, lagavulin or Caol Isla. My personal favourite is Caol Isla 18 yr old but it's quite rare since it's used in a blend.

I dunno really, but I don't want anything too out there, there will be lots of people there who aren't really hardcore whisky fans, and I want to share it about. Its not just for him. Balvenie Doublewood was one I was looking at as thats supposed to be a good 'starter' whisky.

I have to admit there are certain brands I know not a lot about but if you search single mat flavour map you'll get a good visualisation of where whiskies sit and I'd recommend one in the below the middle of the grid and to the left.

Aye. I'm no over keen on Singleton myself, but it's as inoffensive as you'll get. Auchentoshan is a shout anaw & I'll add anCnoc to the list since it's far too easy to drink. Also, it's fun seeing how different folk pronounce it :DD

I hear the Twelve Year Cibrushsille malt is a good one.

Failing that, Monkey Shoulder is a good, smooth, easy going blend. Isle of Jura is a perfect 'gateway drug' to newbies, whilst being satisfying for old hands. I'm a big fan of Old Pulteney, Talisker and Craggenmore, Arbeg and Bruchladdich, though these ones are more peaty and/or medicinal.

I've just had to listen to a women talk about her sons band and how there's a 'massive scene' in Birmingham at the moment and how they're trying to break it. If only they had 250 friends who were willing to pay £5 each to watch them play, then the promoters would let them play the big venues.

It takes me back to my band days... Bless em and their naive ways.

Anyway, happy birthday Malia!

The problem with MaliDay is the commercial nature of it these days. You can't move in the shops for red shirts and cowboy boots.
It's an invented holiday anyway, purely for the greeting card industry.

I don't celebrate it anymore, and Mrs T doesn't expect a new shirt every year, or at least she doesn't get one. It's worth the anger to make the point I think, I make it up to her by buying her 2 non-red shirts the day after.

Sat an exam for the first time in about a decade. Wrote 18 sides of A4 in 3 hours. Why they don't let you type them is beyond me. My fingers and brain hurt.

Presumably due to (a) the difficulty in ensuring you're not cheating online if they let you bring your own device and (b) the expense involved in the alternative of providing everyone with a device they've locked down. It's a fair point though, any time I need to actually write things on paper these days I'm horrified at how irritating and archaic it seems but I've never thought about the fact that people are having to write out reams of stuff all over the country all the time under exam conditions.

So's my swearing all the time when I make a mistake or think of something to add to an answer from half an hour ago, only to find there's no space for it.
