Well, he was trapped in that he wasn't allowed to sell the massive mansion, probably went nuts behind that. Doesn't excuse it at all though, sound like he shot his child and the animals and burnt the place down basically because he wasn't getting his way any more.

It's like a news hotline here at work today. Rod said (and Rod's word is god to me because he knows everything and everyone) that his friend was in the fire team that went to the guy's place first and they couldn't get through the gate as there was a huge horse box in front of it with the tyres slashed open so they took some time getting in.

Man, that guy was seriously warped in the mind. I can understand if he shot just himself, but to kill his wife and kid and all the animals aswell? That's just nut job all over, I don't care if he was at the end of his tether, you don't take it out on everyone else.
