Every time I've seen him on the TV in the last few years he's looked very unhealthy and unwell.

Indeed. I think I heard that there was a new smith and Jones project in the works too. Not anymore, clearly.

Mike Winters:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/comedy-legend-mike-winters-died-2222447

He was of course one half of a double act with his brother Bernie until Bernie having an affair with a dancer 20 years his junior drove a wedge between them and Bernie replaced Mike with a St Bernard's.

Mike and Bernie were pretty dire. At one performance in Glasgow the act started with Mike on stage. After a couple of minutes Bernie poked his head around the corner with a big grin. A Glaswegian voice pipes up with "Christ! There's two of 'em!"

Morecambe and Wise were once interviewed and asked what would they be if they weren't comedians. The answer, "Mike and Bernie Winters".

Mike's book, "The Sunny Side Of Winters" is currently £1.24 for a NEW copy on Amazon.

Grab 'em before they cost 40 quid a pop second hand like Don Estelle's.

One David Frost show that nobody will have mentioned today, Ultra Quiz '84 for TVS.

Ultraquiz facts:

UK version devised by Jeremy Beadle.

3 series with the budget decreasing each year. The first series was a lavish affair shot worldwide entirely on video tape. 2nd series was still worldwide but used smaller film unit and did more in the UK. 3rd series never left the TVS region!

First year presenter was Micheal Aspel, second year was David Frost, third year was Stu "I could crush a grape" Francis.

Oh I know mate. Apparently the whole 'Twitter thang' has restarted again - I'm 'Major Misunderstanding' from Viz, and you're rather less imaginatively named 'PC bum boy' or somesuch. Oh such wit, huh; I've seen 12-year olds come up with better. (Which is kind of ironic, since one of our 'detractors' looks to be about that age, judging from his Twitter photo lol)

Thing is though, are you honestly arsed mate? You have a great job, a nice wife, nice car, good prospects. Life is good! Whereas, you could be some really sad unhealthily-80s-obsessed, nasty, bitter little dweeb, whose "partner" is possibly an (inanimate) Alan Sugar 'you've been fired!(tm)' doll?

I was pretty pissed at this at first; I've fallen out with people on the 'net but have never felt the need to start up a hate campaign against anyone. But hey, in the end, could I really give a fiddler's over this? The forum has pretty much gone to shite anyway; when was the last decent political discussion, the stuff that we used to do at WoS? (Plus, it's not as though the obnoxious, strange little twat has even the cahoneys to say any of it to my - or your - face anyway, which I guess speaks volumes, no?)

Let 'em have their fun; they're more to be pitied than scorned. Green Eye, simple as mate.

Maybe not well known but a legend amongst outdoorsy folk, Frank Conway fae Tarbet deid the other day. Not sure if any of yies will have met him on your travels, but yies will probably enjoy reading about him, he was one of those rare folk that lived up to their mythical status & then some.

A lassie I know fae the climbing wrote some stuff about him a while back & it sums him up better than I could write. http://whatwillsurviveofus.wordpress.co ... a-million/

Mr Conway appears to have received the send off he deserved. Yet another story to add to his mythos :)
Quote:
Sir Cameron, 66, who owns the 15,000-acre Nevis Estate and had flown from Canada to pay his respects to Mr Conway at the parish church in Morar, near Inverness, told a story about Mr Conway’s time running a hostel and referred to a letter sent to the deceased by two dissatisfied German guests.

...

A spokesman for the Bishop said the only sanction the Bishop could impose, “short of consigning him to hell for all eternity”, was to write to Sir Cameron to make clear his displeasure.
