I feel really bad for grinning at the law confirming the cuntitude of Jim Davidson, but, yeah, I am.

I once 'accidently' destroyed a Jim Davidson book in the library while shelving, necessitating its withdrawl. Score one for the good guys!

Appearing in Puss in Boots pantomime in 2006 Davidson, in character as Dick Whittington, asked the audience: "Do you know who I am?"
A boy scout in the audience yelled back: "Yes, you're a fucking wanker."

Savile raised less money than people think. He took hefty fees for appearances and was very good at publicity and being seen doing stuff.

Savile's Daily Telegraph obituary put Savile's fundraising at £40 million..........

The estimated amount of money Jeremy Beadle raised for charity, always with no publicity or personal fees, was £100 million (source: BBC).

Why THE FUCK is there not a solid gold statue of Beadle in Trafalgar square? 100 million quid, no fuss, no noncing kids, no stupid tracksuits and mugging in publicity shots. Beadle just got down to it. To him it was about the fundraising and was never about creating the cult of personality that Savile did.

And what did Beadle get from the country? A poxy MBE! Savile got an OBE and Knighthood!

The irony is that Beadle would have been perfectly happy with no recognition and an MBE because by all accounts of the people who knew him, that's the kind of guy he was.

That'd be great. We'd have chintzy china ware featuring Prince Charles sliding down a bannister firing twin handguns, the Queen sitting sinisterly at the head of a table Godfather style with Prince Phillip standing like a Capo behind her, Margaret carrying a body out of a car towards the swamp on a remote turnpike and recently revealed evil Duchess Kate 'Minnigun' Middleton shooting up heroic gumshoe investigative reporter Piers Morgan as he passes through a toll booth.

But they're lovable really, as long as you give them their due respect.

TV actor from Cornation Street up on 19 charges:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-21468687

This brings back memories of allegations the shows stars have had made against them in the past. Older viewers may remember this song at school:

"A finger of fudge is just enough to give our Len a treat"

Which relates to charges against an actor called Peter Adamson around 1983. From his Telegraph obituary:

Quote:
He was reinstated, but soon faced worse problems, when he was charged with indecent assault on two eight-year-old girls in a swimming pool, at which he had assisted as a part-time instructor.

The trial, at Burnley Crown Court, inevitably attracted the interest of the tabloids, which reported it in lurid detail. But Adamson had recruited the services of George Carman - whose expertise in the defence of celebrities was already evident. Adamson was acquitted but was left with an enormous legal bill.

After prevaricating, Adamson decided to pay the bill by returning to the tabloids with more tales from Coronation Street, and was sacked for breach of contract. Soon afterwards, his wife, whom he had met while in rep and who had long suffered from chronic arthritis, died.

Although he had some acting work on radio, and in a West End production of Dial M for Murder, Adamson returned to the bottle, and, in a rambling account of the trial given to a Sun reporter, appeared to admit his guilt.

"I am totally guilty of everything the police said," he said. "But what I hope you will print - there was no sexual intent."

Well, of course he was. WE KNEW THAT ALREADY.

Amazeballs at the disingenuousness of the BBC on Today this morning - they hadn't published his name up until now because of "various editorial and legal reasons" but "circumstances have changed". Bullshit. There never were legal reasons for not naming him. The only conceivable "legal" reason I can think of was that, post-Leveson, they were more susceptible to getting the (entirely baseless) shitters put up them by Harris's lawyers. The only real legal reason for not publishing his name would have been an injunction, but it doesn't appear that there was one.

So why did, as that BBC report puts it, the media choose only to report that an 82 year old man had been arrested?

To be fair, the other celebrities named aren't really currently high profile, but Rolf Harris is which would have made them nervous. If there was an error in any reporting then Rolf would have had a more valid claim that he'd lost income as he'd no longer be able to go around showing kids his poor injured puppies, than say Jim Davidson.

It wasn't just the Beeb that held back on this, it was everyone. Despite the Saville controvversy, the BBC wouldn't have wanted to be seen leading the charge where others feared to tread.

That doesn't hold water though. It's very easy to check whether or not he'd been arrested - and they all knew for a fact that he had been. Even his family had spoken to the Australian media about it.

What worries me is if all these old skool icons have been putting it around with kids, how many people do we know in real life that have done the same? Perhaps I'm being slightly irrational. There are many other people with greater access to young children then these guys had. Perhaps a little bit of fame helped cover it up but how many people would say "Bob down the road wouldn't do anything like that, he's a stand up guy".

Obviously not everyone is guilty but it makes me wonder.

I think the difference is that if anyone else exhibited this sort of behaviour then those around them might object. But, in the case of Savile at least, there seems to have been a bizarre culture whereby those working in TV around them just accepted it is as one of the star's eccentricities. It certainly does seem that in many cases the more famous someone gets the worse their behaviour can become before it has any negative effect on them.

Really? I'm sure they'd have mentioned that. Guido reported yet again that there was no injunction. Then again if it's a super injunction noone knows about the injunction existing. Which makes it hard to enforce. And anyway, reporting "an 82 year old celebrity living in Rolf Harris's house has been arrested" (whcih is basically what they did) would identify him and would have breached any such injunction.

I'm treating that anecdote with a pinch of salt for now.
