Aye, I'm past all that. After you've parted company with Landon Ricketts, there's quite a long stretch in which De Santa is the only person you can go to. It's no big deal, really; I probably shouldn't have done all his missions in one sitting. :p

Time to slow down and take a few sidequests, methinks.

No. I tried throwing a box at him but he refused to do anything. Then I tried electrocuting him, but he didn't wake up.

Hit it with a spanner then.

Or make glue & dog food.

You know what does annoy me in this game? Getting onto my horse, running into an ambush and popping dead-eye mode to deal with the brunt of the situation, only to find my character wildly swinging his knife, then getting stuck on his horse until death. I always have my rifle equipped. Stop unequipping it, game.

Aside from that, it's brilliant.

The Great Plains area seems to be inaccessable for me at the moment. I take it this unlocks after a certain mission? I've so far only just got to Mexico.

Oh, aye, probably. I only started exploring that part of the map after I'd done all of Reyes' missions in Mexico, so maybe it's closed off until then.

Damn, I've gone and finished the main story. I must have been doing loads more missions than I thought, unless the game's fairly short anyway. Now I have a load of challenges to complete, outfits to unlock and probably a couple of strangers left to find and help out, and I can't be bothered because it feels 'over'! :'(

My brother came in to have a look at this game today and, upon discovering the poker games you can play, decided it was high-time he taught me how to play (I've never previously played or understood any form of poker, so have always avoided it in these games).

Oops. It's a lot more fun than I expected it to be. Now I'm thinking he might have to show me the game outside of the virtual Old West.

Amusing glitch last night. I sprinted up to a wall under enemy fire, hit RB to get into cover, and flew hundreds of feet up into the air. It was less amusing when I came back down, died, and had to reload though.

Same here. I've never played any card game more than once, or for longer than ten minutes, and I remember feeling like a gibbering idiot a few years ago when some friends tried to get me involved in a poker game at a barbecue, and had to re-explain the rules to me at almost every turn.

I like Liar's Dice, though. That'd be fun to play over a few beers.

Still not had chance to play this a lot but I've already seen a couple of riders trapped in the scenery with just their heads poking out, walking but unable to move yet still politely doffing their hats at me.

Also I'm never too sure on what constitutes a crime. I saw some bloke outside the saloon stabbing a prostitute so I ran up and drew my gun, at which point the fucker ran off, so I chased him and shot him in the knee and he instantly died but somehow the game decided that I was the dishonourable prick in all of this.

Does that involve throwing horseshoes at a spike in the ground? It's dam tricky in real life.

It's actually really simple when you get the hang of it. I found it immensely frustrating at first. Tips:

  1. Always aim, for every throw. Aim so the spike is pretty much in the centre of the horseshoe from the zoomed in view.
  2. Pull the right stick back and push it forward with a decent pace. Let go when the metre hits the middle line.
  3. Profit

I'm at a re-enactment this weekend and usually set the game up. I'll try using your tips: only got it once this year (when nobody was looking, as usual)

It's just the "decent pace" bit that's eluding me. It's too tricky to get right. The opponents seem to be even worse, though.

Yes. Very much so.

I completed the treasure maps last night. A bit sad, as they were definitely one of my favourite parts of the game. Of course, I've still got the gathering, hunting and shooting challenges to do, lots of stranger missions, all the random encounters that pop up, outfits to complete, gang hideouts all across the land, jobs... oh, yes, and and the story missions to complete. Phew.
