Actually, I will do, because I've got a topic-related question.

Mrs Grim... enjoys the Xblah version of Carcassone a lot. Is there anything else (even a little) like it?

Some people manage to paint with their feet to a surprisingly high level, but they do that because they they have no arms.

I could probably play Quake 3 to a high level with a joystick made out of a Rampant Rabbit and plasticine, given enough time and effort - (which is what playing FPS games with a pad always seems to come down to, even by people who advocate it as being passable, 'you'll get used to it eventually and it will always be inferior to using a keyboard+mouse') - and if you really want your friends and cheevos then fair enough.

However, personally I'd rather not desecrate the memory of a great game with gamepad shittery, especially when there's still an active Quake 3 community on the PC.

Just whizzed through X-Men with my wee brother. He wasn't nearly as amused by the voice work as I thought he'd be. :(

Is this out on PSN yet? It's supposed to have been released the day before the XBLAH version, but a pal can't find it.

The advantage online for the former players was so great that the servers I played on rapidly segregated into keyboard-and-mouse-allowed (which was, in pratice, keyboard-and-mouse-only) and keyboard-and-mouse-banned. I certainly enjoyed playing the game with a pad, but didn't feel competitive when I played against people with a mouse.

Sorry to factgasm on your angry chips with a glistening wad of data. I now await with baited breath the explanation for how this was just a side argument made of straw, or how it's irrelevant because Quake 3 Arena and UT3 are completely different games that have nothing in common.

Seriously, have you read the thread? I've said a dozen times that mouse and keyboard is better than the pad. You haven't "factgasmed" on anything. You can't just quote a bit of what I said, say some stuff to the contrary and run away cackling. Anybody who reads this thread from the point where I mention Quake Arcade to your post will plainly see that you've just jumped into the argument without reading anything.

edit: fuck it. You're right! LOL GAYWOOD! YOUR FACTS AND FIGURES DEFEAT ME AGAIN! STRAW MAN! SIDE ARGUMENT!

You've acknowledged that using a controller compared to KBAM is a handicap.

But you're disagreeing with me making the same observation?

No. You're putting words in my mouth. I've maintained all along that this is the case. I objected to your and AE's arguments that made out as if there's a huge gaping chasm between the two control methods - a chasm so large as to make Quake 3 on consoles pretty much a waste of time. That playing FPSes with pads is shit. I argue that it isn't - it works well. Pitted against eachother, the difference between the two control methods may become a chasm, but as it stands, Quake on the console with a pad is nowhere near as bad as people are making out. Certainly nothing like the Dreamcast version.

You described it as a "covered in jelly with your thumbs snapped off" or whatever.

But here's an idea, why don't interested parties just go back and read the thread? It's amazing how short memories can be if it makes an argument a few pages later look stronger.

Yeah I think he was - I just didn't want to quote the whole post:

Quote:
Quake in particular is *THE* ultra-twitchy mega-sensitivity shooter, yeah it'll be a level playing field but I'd like to see someone do a 360 degree rocket jump, switch to the railgun, and nail someone half a map away with a fucking pad. That sort of move is part of the anatomy of Quake, remove that and you may as well just play Dreary Shit Ops This Year's Shitty Shovelware Release and be done with it.

My argument was (as posted shortly after) that stuff like that is possible with a pad, and pads aren't as shit as he was making out:

Quote:
I didn't believe for a second that playing FPSes with a pad was possible to a level even approaching that of someone with a PC. I was wrong. You just have to practise. I am actually telling you, as someone with a lot of experience and playing time with both methods, that whilst the pad isn't as accurate - of course not - it is NOT the crutch you and most others continually claim it is. It's getting boring now. If you're shit with the pad, that's your problem. I'm not, and many others aren't.

I think that pretty neatly sums it up. On the first page of this typically cyclical argument. If people on this forum would just read what people have to say the first time round, we wouldn't have to drag things out for so long.

Ah, just when I was just about to take Atrocity Exhibition off ignore, having read a select few of his posts where he wasn't being an arsehole, WHAM!

Can you play Quake with a controller? Yes. Going 'yes but the metagame demands that you have to (insert complicated series of moves)' is pretty fucking pointless, when the metagame of the console version will be different. Because everyone will be using the same motherfucking input device.

I know you're not entirely serious, but PC Gaming is, and always has been huge. Just the other day Cataclysm sold 3.3 million in 24 hours. There's also a much wider spectrum of sizes of games, and more small interesting indie games than any other platform.

I figured seeing as every time I try to argue a point, people just point and laugh, I'd try a change of tact. It's much more fun this way. Besides, I've had my say above - I can't put it any more clearly than I did, so now it's party time. I liked the bit where you used the Dreamcast version of Quake as a point of reference.

I know you're not entirely serious, but PC Gaming is, and always has been huge. Just the other day Cataclysm sold 3.3 million in 24 hours. There's also a much wider spectrum of sizes of games, and more small interesting indie games than any other platform.

I have my Cataclysm thread waiting for when Eurogamer give it a 10/10, which they better well bloody had do.

It's quite surprisingly awesome, if you think you know what WoW is about from the old vanilla days, or Burning Crusade days, or even Wrath of the Lich King days, you really don't know WoW at all - what Blizzard have done is stunningly bold and massively effective.

Oh no, I hate MMOs, but that's not really the point.
