I was going to sign up, but then noticed the little line saying party chat would no longer work with people who weren't in the programme.

Yes.

I know someone else who cannot join party chat because they are testing [Something else by Microsoft for the XBox - Ed].

I kind of resent it actually. I've got no interest in it at all, why the hell should I be forced to pay for it?

They could just make it optional for X MS Points and keep the cost of live the same instead of increasing it.

Isnt the cost of live staying the same in the UK (unless you pay for it month by month?)

Yup.

Plus, Live has also been the same price since it launched back in the day & if you compare the rise to the price increases on pretty much everything else in the same period we're still doing well. As an example the Daily Rangers Record newspaper went up by around 15p in the same period of time, an increase of £4.50 a month.

Yes but the retail codes are likely to go up in price/get discounted by less, less often because the price of the alternative has gone up.

Yeah.

So the price of 3 month subscriptions via credit card increases. Retailers then don't need to discount the 3 month packs as much, and in turn don't need to discount the 12 month packs as much.

Or would you say that it would have no effect whatsoever?

Think about it the other way round, if they perma dropped the price of live direct from them, do you think retailers wouldn't change their prices?

How did you figure that one out? It's only the monthly price that's changing. 3 months & 12 months are remaining the same price.

Hydrophobia is out today. It's getting mixed reviews. Try before you buy guys.

Hedge Magazine gave it 3/10.

Also the dev claims that the edge review is filled with factual inaccuracies.

Like "you only get a stun weapon". They say that's just the first weapon you get, there is more later on in the game.

The metacritic spread is pretty wide too (High 8s down to the 3 from Edge).

What I saw of it at PAX looked a bit shitty.

Yeah I watched a video on XBL last week and it looked a bit dull, but probably a bit better than a 3.

I would totally defend giving it a 3 if they thought it was rubbish, but if they didn't play the full game, they should make that clear in the review.

New dashboard has gone live if you signed up for the beta

Quote:
Microsoft's update to the Xbox 360's dashboard has gone live for select users who signed up to preview the latest changes to the console's interface. So, don't be alarmed if you're prompted to update your Xbox 360 tonight.

This early look at the Xbox 360's latest revision will include changes coming to Netflix, Avatars, and the system's dashboard. All-new additions, like Zune Music and ESPN for Xbox 360, will also be available starting today for select users.

The Xbox 360 fall 2010 update is planned to go live for everyone before Kinect launches in early November.

It's kind of pretty, and very square. Being in Canadadada I apparently cannot avail myself of most of the other features yet, and apart from that it just bangs on incessantly about the Kinect beta, giving me the opportunity to download stuff I have absolutely no use for.
I shall say no more lest the Microsoft Gestapo ninja their way through my windows and garotte me while I type.

I noticed it had come out yesterday (I think) and received a pretty decent preview in Edge with its water physics and what not.

Super Meat Boy is the shit. Fucking fantastic if you have any love for 2D platformers.

It's a lot like N, but with bigger levels, and they aren't all just made out of the same tileset.

Only the PC version of Crazy Taxi 3 which was cold and soulless. That said, it was a bad game anyway.

I do love a bit of CT on the DC but 800M$P is the absolute top limit of what I'd pay for it. It's a very shortlived game and the mini games can get a bit hateful.

Tempted by Comic Jumper. 1200M$P is a stumbling point though.

Sonic is apparently available to download now!

edit: It isn't, but you can possibly download the trial using this dodgy link:

#offers">http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games ... b=1#offers

edit edit: Says I need a redeem code.

FALSE ALARM. Stupid NeoGAF.

Mexico link works!

I didn't like the demo.

It wasn't that fun to play, and whilst half of the time it was really funny, half of the time it was not funny at all.

Nice , just got my 2 x 2100 points cards from Zavvi and found they have re-done the packaging to be slightly more ecologically friendly (although i'd still rather just by something digitally for the same price i can get the physical card).

Instead of the whole DVD case we have a thin cardboard sleeve with a small polystyrene type insert which contains the card.

First level is pish. They've definitely used the same physics from the DS game, too. Awaiting bezzie reviews...

Yeah I think it's alright, but I'm not much of a Sonic expert. People on NeoGAF are slating the physics and the momentum, saying it's nothing like the originals. I can't really tell the difference and it seems okay to me. Little disappointed they included that "homing" jump from Rush, though. Also, the music is shit.

After much deliberation I'm going to buy Comic Jumper.

I reckon more thought, attention and fun (remember that devs) has gone into that than any generic Sonic bollocks. More Bezzies trying the demo s.v.p.

Yeah, Sonic... the physics and momentum seem weird. Nothing like the original and Sonic seems really slow. That shouldn't be...

Also, the screen seems too zoomed in for my liking. I can't see enough of where I'm going.

It feels very 'heavy', Sonic seems to take a long time to get up to speed. The way you can instantly cancel the momentum of a jump and drop in a straight line to the ground is jarring, and while it should make the game more precise, it just feels like you're battling to make Sonic go where you want him to. It's a good game, but not good enough.

It's so fucking cheap. Unavoidable deaths and irritating unclear sections. I fucking hate Sonic games. This one is shit and has the annoyances of the originals.
