Does anyone know if MS points bought from the USA will work in the UK?

My money is on... no.

No, but you can set up a USA account, buy stuff, and then play it with your UK account.

My understanding is that they will work on a US account on your XBOX, but not on your UK one...

Monday Night Combat am decent. Anyone else bought it? Surprised it hasn't been talked about yet - it's 1200 points and available in all good XBLAs now.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already.

If you download the demos for Metal Slug 3 and XX, KOF98, Garou and Neo Battle Colloseum and then fire up Modern Warfare 2 (demo or full), accessing the quick launch menu and then firing up those demos actually launches the full versions up.

The only downside is that while the achievements unlock and show up on TA, they won't show up on your actual gamercard and I don't think your gamerscore goes up.

But there you go.

I wonder if there are any other 'bonuses' like that out there

It's a very random thing indeed. I can't see how they'll get around it as the problem seems to be with COD6 and you can get away with simply not patching it.

Shame the achievements don't work properly. Well that and the fact that none of the games are that good.

Didn't stop people buying shitty Limbo! (Yeah, I went there!)

Having said this, I played more MNC last night and I'd get the trial version first. It's pretty decent, but it is literally an online 3rd person shooter. There's nothing else to it. No singleplayer whatsoever really. Only buy it if you don't mind playing with randoms (which is shit), or a few more people from here decide to get it (catch 22).

What a weird bug. Are all those XBLAH titles from the same stable?

I wonder how someone even found this. It's a wierd leap to make, COD6 to jap arcade shit.

Bit disappointed that I hate Garou now. I loved it on the Dreamcast.

MNC sounds like my worst gaming nightmare!

I reckon it's just through the sheer number of people who play MW2, sooner or later, someone was going to quicklaunch a trial arcade game made by SNK :p

I'd imagine they use a common SNK written utility library to do their startup auth check into the Xbox API then. Which is somehow vulnerable to having some contents in memory that MW2 leaves in there when it exits.

Edit -- the bug is more likely to be in the SNK games though, not MW2. If it was something MW2 did wrong all XLBAH games would exhibit this.

Simon Parkin unfathomably pulls a 9/10 out for MNC:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010- ... bat-review

I... er, wha? It's alright, but nigh on essential? Not really... It's a reasonably polished online only shooty thing. I've said it before but I officially give up on Eurogamer now. I don't remember the last review I agreed with.

I did this once btw.

I bought a 1600pt card on eBay. Nice and cheap like.

Bought Contra, Golden Axe, Rush N Attack-o-Bert and Yie Ar Kung Fu on SquidUSA. That allowed me to play them on my UK account until the 360 died and so now I have to be signed in to the USA account to use them which is more of a chore than I imagined it'd be.

I could relicense them using M$'s online tool but I'm not too keen to do that as you can only use it once a year and I've had this 360 for at least two years so it's about to die immediately I'm sure.

New Tomb Raider game out on Wednesday to finish off the Summer of Expense (TM). I've bought them all so I have to get this one to get a 1200 point rebate. It's getting good reviews, though. 9/10 on Eurocunts, and not reviewed by the moron who gave MNC 9/10 last week, the idiot.

I'm amazed how quickly you've gone from "I won't ever buy 1200 point games unless they are super amazing" to buying all of the Summer of Arcade, via "buy MNC is quite good and only 1200 points".

:p

How are you finding Castlevania? I'm tempted by it, but you'll need a group of you to go through it together. Might get it come sale time...

I've never been a fan of Castlevania, and I haven't played it much. I took that as my "free game". I was massively disappointed with MNC after playing it more, Limbo was probably worth it I suppose if you're into that sort of thing, Hydro Thunder is fun, and this Tomb Raider game I'm definitely interested in. As for 1200 points, yeah, I hate it, but I'm bored and want to play games :p

I think Limbo was worth the asking price.

Castlevania HD is still utterly fucking unfathomable to me. I am thinking of just posting my review notes as is instead of a review...

That's probably what I'd do! I got to the boss on the first mansion, got completely spanked and then I had to start from the beginning. I've got the DS Castlevanias but I never got into them, and I'd never given them much attention in the past, so I guess this must be a bad place to start or something. It's quite like the others I guess, if that's any help. :p

Well, I am pretty familliar with the series, and this is absolutely nothing like any of the previous ones in the series whatsover. Like, the biggest departure from the forumulas that the previous 2D games have built, despite mostly using art from them.

What I've played so far this is more like a roguelike meets L4D than the Metroidvania/sidescroller games of the past.

And despite having spent 4/5 hours playing it, I still have no idea if I like it.

Does anyone know if you can get DotW deals with a gold live trial? If so could anyone be so kind to lend me one if possible. I fancy getting Zeno clash but me gold ran out on the weekend and I'm skint fir the forseeable future.

I'm fairly sure you can't. The trials are pretty limited and essentially only allow gaming with other people/partying. All of the download "bonuses" that come with FULL GOLD(TM) are still restricted as if you were Silver.

Also, I'd give you a trial code but I haven't had one bundled with a game in over a year. Have they stopped doing them?

I thought you just got a trial with Gold when you signed up a new account when you first set the 360 up, so no codes would be needed.

Aha! I seem to recall a similar sting when I got the original 360. Because I already had an Xbox Live account (with the user name I wanted), I'd essentially locked myself out of the free two month trial or whatever it was.

They expire though, Zaphod! I have loads of them and they all expired months if not a year ago, and like I say, they haven't given any away with new games for what seems like an age.

You can also only apply one free trial to an account from what I've experienced. (In the one time I've tried using one of those 48 hour cards on an account that had used the months free trial to begin with)

For what it's worth, the month's free trial I got when I set up my XBL account let me download demos the day they came out instead of having to wait a week like the Silver scum I am now.

Bloody hell, that Tomb Raider game is lovely! Played the demo last night, tight controls and stunning visuals. Tits!

Getting that once I bag some cheap points.

Yeah I think the month ones are different - they're a proper "free" version of Gold. The 48 hour codes literally let you play games online.

Dunno whether it should go here or in Bargains, but in 'Spotlight' on the Dashboard you can add another 12 months of Gold for 23.99 which is pretty good, I stacked it on top of my existing membership ending In jan next year and it honoured it.

Seems a bit odd. Why not just release more tables for the current one? I doubt they'd change the game mechanics much.

I gather it is a free download, and you can export levels from the first one to the second, and they have released a bunch of new tables too.
