Probably this phrase from the mouth of a 14 year old boy

Quote:
“I like science, but I look like a threat because of my brown skin," he said.

It consistently amazes me how the US lags 50 years behind civilisation.

Bollocks! We just opened an old bottle of Talisker. It smells and tastes like Germolene.

All becomes clear. I read the label and it was 10 YEARS OLD.

And the lesson from this? Always read the small print.

If I drive down to the coop which is about a mile away, then decide to have a quick pint (15mins) and drive home again, at what point can my blood alcohol not exceed 80? Is it the few minutes drive back? Because if I get stopped and taken down the nick for the big test that'll give more time for EtOH levels to rise when otherwise I would be at home.

You'd need to exceed the limit on both the roadside test that gets you arrested, and the evidential test in the station, so as you say there may be situations where your blood alcohol levels are on the rise. In that case you'd be better off having the breath test done quickly. If it's a morning after test and you are sobering up then people try and drag it out for as long as possible on the hope that the blood test results will be lower by the time a doctor arrives.

Yes. Yes they are. So MrsA told me

We are looking into things again* and they want to know:

Cost of car tax
Cost of car insurance
Cost of commuting
Council tax

*want a new CH system and Bathroom. Ideally we want to extend but this is looking impractical. There is a "pay £5k if you settle up within 4 years" clause which we, naively, very naively, thought wouldn't matter. Moving might still be an option as always but we are scanning rather than actively looking.

Hurrah! Decision in principle fine. I will go on the land register and we can remove the old boiler from the kitchen (freeing up a whole cupboard), the water tank from the cupboard in the bathroom can go and the new boiler can go into the loft I hope. Then we can get a new bathroom (goodbye pastel and beige!) and possibly have someone paint the living room.

I can sort of understand a teacher being paranoid about seeing wires and clockwork mechanism etc and the head investigating, but surely after they saw it was a clock they would have released him, or done some testing or whatever. But surely you only actually arrest him after it's been confirmed that it was a bomb?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 04277.html

:'(

I think I'm with those people that go into the Blue Mountains with guns and hole up, now. How stupid does a teacher have to be to think a clock is a bomb because it has wires, how thick are the police to follow through when it was clear IT WAS A FUCKING CLOCK AND EVERYONE SAID IT WAS A CLOCK because SOME TWAT said it looked like a bomb.

Fuck's sake, it is beyond belief. Citizens of the US need to atm 5 hems elves again St 5his form of rank stupidity because these people are meant 5o protect you and teach your children. Fucking hell.

I believe that is the theory and, if true, that bottle must have been absolute shite when it left the distillery. I doubt that I'd live long enough for it to become palatable.

On the plus side, we've still got around 10 bottles of single malt left to try. ;)

Just been told by the head of our colouring in department that I'm not welcome at the relaunch of our London office next week as that would be too many staff for the number of visitors, even though I've done most of the design and project management work. None of that is my job but our facilities manager is a complete waste of space. They have however told plenty of other people who've done nothing that they should go.

I'm very unimpressed, and will just turn up anyway.

When I found out that they'd invited two of our engineers to schmooze with customers, and picked the one that has so bad a stutter that he sometimes can't get a word out, and the one that is a village idiot from a village full of idiots, I snapped and had a bit of a moan.

I've now been told I'm welcome to go along.

They only age in the caskets. Whisky is inert once it's bottled, or it should be. Sounds like your Talisker was contaminated in some way.

Have you ever had Talisker before? It's pretty peaty/smoky so it can taste very... medicinal if you're not used to it.

Edit: yup every online taste test states it has a 'germoline flavour' it's supposed to taste like that...

I honestly can't remember. If I drink Scotch at all, it's usually Glenmorangie because that's what people have bought me as Christmas or birthday presents, although we have had a few others. But medicinal was definitely how I'd describe the Talisker; too much so, in fact. It really had a Germolene smell to me, but never having eaten the stuff can only speculate about the flavour.

Yep. Welcome to the world of peaty whiskies. Don't give up on it, it's an aquired taste. Try pouring a measure, add a few drops of water and let it sit for 15-30 minutes.

I love them. Lagavulin 16 is my favourite. I only ever had one bottle of whisky that was so strong in it's smokiness that I needed to dilute it, but I don't remember which one that was.

This damn thing flew over my place this afternoon. I heard the banging, first of all, and thought it was the roofers a few doors down making a racket. Then I realised that the rhythm and tone was more like a car backfiring only much louder, but you don't hear that very much these days. Then as it got even louder, I saw the jet going overhead, though I didn't see any flames. By the time I'd got outside to have a look, it had gone and I wasn't sure at that point that it HAD been the plane making the noise.

Some phone video recordings on the Manchester Evening News website. Sounds very ropey.

Makes you proud to be British...that and the story from a colleague that on the BA flight last week to Heathrow the whole plane was full of drunks...all BP peeps and all British.

Brings a tear to my eye.
