Are these the number of people that have searched for those terms, or the number of people that have searched for those terms and clicked on the link to take them here?

I'm assuming the latter!

Having thought about it a bit more, I'm not sure SUMIF is the answer, it would be if you wanted to just appraise the whole column, but the variable number of rows involved is scuppering me writing something using it. It would be dead easy if you could use variables in Excel formulas, but you can't.

I've got another idea though, I'll be back if I can get it to work.

EDIT

Right, this is a horrible bodge and assumes that you don't mind having 0s between all the averages.

If your original columns are A, B and C and you have a title header then in columns E, F & G from row 3 down you can put the following:

E: =IF(C3=0,IF(C2<>0,B3,E2+B3),E2/F2)
F: =IF(C3=0,F2+1,0)
G: =IF(C3<>0,E3,0)

This will give you the requested average in column G with 0s where there shouldn't be one. For a neater appearance you could then hide E & F and conditionally format G to white out the 0s.

If that doesn't make sense, PM me an e-mail address and I'll send you the .xls sheet I worked it out on.

Thank you for the effort! That should work nicely. I am (kind of) glad that it wasn't a really easy problem to solve. :)

(Puts her hands up) BUSTED :( :p

Yes, I am a shit Shinobiyoru! Bad Kat, very bad Kat.

59 times was probably because I am shit at using these things and it confused me at first-who knows why. I'm sure they aren't all me though

Nah that wasn't me-I searched a few times because I was wondering what he was like really. Oh now he's going to know I'm a creepy lady :D

Actually, I wasn't asking because of that. And Colin did actually, he's on another forum called Twisted Reality he's made, which is not going so good. But that's mainly because we've got no idea what we are doing. If I was really joining a forum to stalk Gaz I would have joined everything he has, which I'm pretty sure I haven't done and I wouldn't have announced myself on here as his girlfriend. I'm really not that clever

No, I'm pretty sure not, anyway.

Relax, the police will never find the evidence, anyway. 'Barbados', my foot.

Lmao! That's ace

In any case, I looked twice under GazChap's girlfriend or whatever the link was because he said, 'Oh, I've been talking about you to some people online' or something like that and I thought-'whoa!' because I didn't really like that fact because he could have been saying anything-and it's nice to know what people say about you honestly. It sent me to a 'pay' forum or something under his name and I left it at that. Then after Col made the site then we were looking for similar one's

He contacted me a few months ago on facebook and if I'd really wanted to sneak about and suss him out I'd have been quicker off the draw wouldn't I? In any case I asked him straight away when I'd found he was on this if he wanted me to leave as I would straight away

EDIT: Katania Jane etc was to find a very old forum I made when I was about 16. I was fanfictionalforum or something and I couldn't remember what it was called, this was the same time I was having a look round so I could get idea's for topics on Col's

Mimi-I asked because I think I did a weird one on there to see if it popped up anything and I didn't want people to think I was a pervert, lol

Man, I'm shallow in some ways.

We got hold of the Juno soundtrack, and there's some stuff on there by the Moldy Peaches and Kimya Dawson which I really liked. I thought Ms Dawson had a lovely, beguiling voice, and so I looked her up. Boy, was I disappointed to discover that this is the visage that goes with the voice:

Image

This has happened before, of course - you assume someone with a pretty voice will be pretty when you see them, and when they aren't it's *such* a jolt to the system. Why is it that sound and visuals are so linked in this way in our heads?

I do that at work, when a customer comes in I've been speaking with on the phone and they sound nice, so you assume they look it....it is a LIE. I try and draw a picture of them on my notepad before they come in and match it-sad games for sad office people

You know when you have a packet of cheesy puffs, and you get a little blob of solid "cheesy"? I've just eaten two of those and I think I'm going to die.

They stick to the underside of my tongue when they do that. 'Cloying' is a good word for that I think

You know when you have a packet of cheesy puffs, and you get a little blob of solid "cheesy"? I've just eaten two of those and I think I'm going to die.

They stick to the underside of my tongue when they do that. 'Cloying' is a good word for that I think

It's quite similar to what the word 'cloying' actually means, as it happens. Cloying is something a little bit overbearing or sickly, which I guess the 'flavour powder ball' sort of is. Sort of overly rich, I think it means. Maybe that meaning was sitting in the back of your mind when you thought up the term?

I think it had something to do with the cloying affect of the cat trying to suffocate me aswell. Words often just spring to mind. Cloying is also a way I described someone's perfume once-ick

Oh, right yes, that's the right usage. I thought you meant that you had 'invented' the word 'cloying' to describe what you mentioned as the word bought to mind that feeling. Sorry, I totally misunderstood what you were saying. Maybe overtired :P

I thought you had perhaps known the word in the back of your mind, but when searching for an appropriate word bought to imagination that one as it sounds almost descriptive of the feeling, which is how I had turned it around in my head, but actually I had just mentally inserted a couple of words into the paragraph you had written to make it read that way when I scanned it.

I have had an incredibly sore throat for the last few days. And it's not because of being ill, either, as I'm otherwise completely fine (apart from being very irritable, due to having a sore throat).

I have a horrible feeling one of my notorious 'mouth ulcer at the back of my throat' things has occured again, but a glance in the mirror yesterday didn't reveal one.

Suffice it to say, my long weekend appears to be spoiled already by it. :'(

Ange is constantly (well, 2-3 times a year) getting tonsilitis, despite having her tonsils out years ago. It's really crap.

This has happened before, of course - you assume someone with a pretty voice will be pretty when you see them, and when they aren't it's *such* a jolt to the system. Why is it that sound and visuals are so linked in this way in our heads?

Miriam Margoyles is a good one for this. She did the Cadbury's Caramel bunny for their TV ads.
Also, the phone sex industry is wholly reliant on this, I would have thought.
