So do we know if Halo Remake is going to be just Halo: CE in a higher resolution, or is going to be done properly?

I really expect Microsoft's line up to be boring as hell. Gears of war 3, Forza 4 and another Halo (probably remake) and Fable, with loads of shit Kinect games.

Winner! And at the same time Loser.

There'll be plenty of third party stuff to come over the week... for me knowing that existing hardware is improving and developers are getting to grips with kinect in useful ways for hardcore titles is promising... as far as MS are concerned Kinect is their new platform, recently launched... it was always going to be focal.

I'm just sitting down to watch the MS conference now - very few pages up about Minecraft Kinect but heres one

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/E3-201 ... 32599.html

Quote:
Sandbox building game MineCraft is on its way to the Xbox 360. Microsoft revealed during their E3 presser that the indie phenomenon will arrive on the console later this year.

MineCraft, first released for the PC in 2009, is all about construction. Players' ultimate goal is to build whatever structures they can dream up. First, though, they'll need to explore the world and gather raw materials for building. They'll also have to avoid or fend off monsters while they travel.

The Xbox 360 will be the only console to receive MineCraft, according to Microsoft. The game's being designed specifically to take advantage of the 360's capabilities, specifically Kinect. The scope of the Kinect support wasn't completely clear, though.

MineCraft will be released on Xbox 360 this winter.

BTW if anyone else wants to watch it : http://www.g4tv.com/videos/53259/micros ... nce-video/

My comments on it :

MW3 looks good (although graphics similar to previous COD)
Ghost Recon with Kinect 'seems' to work - impressive on stage in front of that amount of people
Liked the TV stuff was demoed with Castle :-)
Gears looks impressive (i didn't play the beta)
Ryse (the new Crytek thingy) is one of those things that look nice but not sure how well it would work actually playing it
Minecraft announcement at 58 minutes
Never mind the kids - I want the Disney game :-)
Star wars looks rubbish / laggy :-(
Sesame street again looks great but laggy /kinect not really working that well

So it looks like that PS Vita is the name of the new portable. Seems like it's pretty fairly priced aswell but I think I might wait for the next model; the PS Vitalite.

:D

So briefly catching up before work now - it looks as though the Sony conference was about as uneventful as the Xbox one - is that about right? Barring the Vita announcement, which I'm not arsed about really.

From what I've read this years E3 for MS and Sony make it sound like they've ran out of steam for the current generation and it's about pulling out some more profit instead of innovation... I do how ever had a load more stuff to get though.

It almost looks as though they've both sneaked a peek at each others offerings and mutually decided to go through the motions, allowing Nintendo to steal the show so to speak (assuming they announce Project Cafe and that) on the basis that they'll one-up them next year with their own new consoles.

I also wouldn't be surprised if we hear "leaked details and rumours" about new Sony and MS machines within the coming weeks after Nintendo announce theirs. Presumably with the intention of making the "hardcore" crowd shun Nintendo's new offering like they did with the Dreamcast. That's what I'd do, anyway.

Good point!

On that subject - are we all getting Kinect now? I'm struggling to see how it'll work! Or are we all hoping it also has controller support so we can play Minecraft and get cheevos for it? Also - will it have online multiplayer support? I think they'd struggle to store a Minecraft world via the popular console P2P system.

Following the E3 Briefing earlier today, we also announced the following features coming to Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE Members later this year:

The New Dashboard.
Simpler. Cleaner. Easier to navigate. With the addition of new entertainment content on Xbox LIVE and our commitment to continuously improving the overall Xbox experience, we’ve updated the dashboard with a new look and feel that makes it even more open, inviting and intuitive to navigate. All of your favorite content is categorized in a way that is easy to browse and find what you’re looking for, plus you can use voice anywhere in the dashboard to effortlessly navigate and get to what you want.

Bing on Xbox.
We are bringing Bing to Xbox. Bing on Xbox searches Netflix, Hulu Plus, ESPN, as well as our music, video and Xbox LIVE marketplaces to find exactly the entertainment you want to enjoy. With Bing on Xbox and Kinect, you can effortlessly find the games, movies, TV shows, sports and music you want by only using your voice. You say it, Xbox finds it. The experience is now simpler than ever before.

Expanded Kinect Voice Support.
We want Xbox LIVE members around the globe to experience the magic of Kinect’s voice recognition technology so we are committed to bringing voice to eight additional markets by the end of this year with a total of 13 markets that will have Kinect voice. We are also exploring some innovative new ways to enable the LIVE community to help us accelerate the refinement of voice models in new markets, and look forward to sharing developments on that front soon.

Beacons.
We want to make it easy for you to connect with friends over your favorite games on Xbox LIVE, so we are introducing Beacons to the service. Beacons are a way to tell your Xbox LIVE and Facebook friends that you want to play a game on Xbox LIVE. By setting a Beacon, you tell Xbox LIVE what you want to play. Then, Xbox LIVE lets you know when friends are playing or want to play the same game. With Beacons, no matter what you’re currently doing on Xbox LIVE your friends know that it’s ok to ask you to play your Beaconed games. Imagine sending out a Beacon to let your friends know you’re interested in playing “Halo,” while watching a movie on Netflix. It’s about making it easier for you to share and discover games and multiplayer opportunities with friends on Xbox LIVE.

Cloud Storage for Game Saves and LIVE Profile.
Here at Xbox LIVE we listen to your feedback. We are making it easier for you to sign into your Xbox LIVE account from any console at any time to access your game saves and full profile, including items such as Microsoft Points to make purchases, Achievements and friends. Cloud storage will allow you to enjoy the same great Xbox LIVE gaming experience even when you’re not in your own living room by giving you the option to store your “game saves” securely in the Xbox LIVE cloud instead of on a portable memory unit or your console’s hard drive. Gone are the days of “gamertag recovery.” Now all you need to do is sign in, no matter where you are!

http://majornelson.com/2011/06/06/cloud ... xbox-live/

I quite like the sound of the Beacons idea.

Beacons and cloud saving sound cool, and although I rolled my eyes as soon as I read 'Bing on Xbox', it actually sounds quite useful. If instead of scrolling through the menus and the marketplace to find some random XBLA game or DLC I can choose Bing and type whatever I'm looking for in, then that's quite handy. *waits to be told we already have that*

My Boxee has about 4,000 TV shows and 11,000 movies in its "ready for streaming" index. Search is absolutely a requirement to navigate that, and voice search would be welcome.

Beacons are a good idea. Might help to organise more Beex gaming sessions of various games, as often people don't like to 'interrupt' people playing other games.

Well, no. Everyone who didn't already bought a proper wheel. If it's any good, though, then this will pick up some sales from those who'd like a wheel but are unwilling to invest in the logistics necessary to put up with one.

That certainly sounds like me. Might have to keep an eye out for this. I've bought too many steering wheels in the past and barely used them (Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation etc)

Yes, I suppose that's true. Speaking of which, I need to buy a stand like yours. Getting fed up with the ironing board now!

Sony is pushing its new 3D TV's ability to do "split screen" multiplayer through the 3D tech, so each player gets the whole screen. That's a smart move.

wait, what? So, 3d "channel 1" is one screen and "3d channel 2" is another, and you only 1 or 2 depending upon which pair of glasses you have on?

But hang on. Mr Dave's been telling me that games don't do split screen multiplayer any more because it's too graphics intensive for the console to render the on-screen objects for both players simultaneously - and that's with each player only having half the normal viewing area. Surely it would be even worse with a full screen view each?
