she was really gung ho for the whole Weightwatchers system at first but since then we've just gone for homecooked fresh food all the time and are doing okay with that. There's only so far it'll take you, I guess, before exercise becomes mandatory, and I think we've hit that stage now.

Some sort of Watchdog-like programme on telly now with a woman asking, incredulously, "so it IS legal? They're allowed to do that?" about those 'cash for gold' companies. In her defence, she's at least not haranguing and sneering in the god-awful Campbell/Robinson style, but seriously, the question is whether a company is allowed to offer a very low amount in exchange for something if they want to.

Of course it's not illegal, for fuck's sake. You can't legislate a minimum price for every possible transaction in the country. If you don't like the price someone's offering for your stuff, don't accept it. Take your stuff back and go somewhere else. It's called "trade", and it's not a particularly new or difficult concept.

Next doors dog has been left on his own outside all day since about 9am this morning. He's been in my garden and various others with his tail inbetween his legs. He looks really scared... and he's very thin. I can see his ribs!

I've called the RSPCA but will they do anything? The person I spoke to on the phone seemed :shrug:

What's with the wailling? They got clear a good minute in advance, and it's not like her babies were still in there.

How complicated are your shoelaces? I used to manage to fit a 5 mile run plus shower into my lunch hour. And shall be doing so again when my balls have healed.

Fuck that shit, if I can get from 21 to 13.5 stones without lifting a finger, anyone can. The trick is to pig out every so often - I used to eat at least one biggest-size Dominos every half stone (sometimes more regularly, though for the first year that was every 2-3 weeks anyway) and did a bit of binge drinking every so often with tee-total in between. Stops the body going into hibernation mode, see. Now I just have to do it again, but only from just-under-15st, thankfully.

I cut booze out, entirely for the first 8 weeks, then just a couple of pints Friday lunchtime. Eventually I started drinking vodka at weekends, and hunting out the odd low-carb lager. It was always factored into the Points, so half a bottle of vodka meant not much got ate that day. Mostly I was eating chilli or grilled chicken with baked potatoes, steamed rice or Yorkshire puddings (much, much less unhealthy than you'd think). With, I don't know, some other stuff as well. That appalling "bacon with all the tasty bits cut off". Lots of steamed green beans, sprouts, broccolli and cauliflower. Tomato sauces for pasta, with the same chicken and/or bacon in. No oil when I did need pan lubricant, just that "<1% spray" stuff. Smaller portions of carbs - I think 50g dried for rice or pasta, 75g for spuds. I've never had much of a sweet tooth, so not having chocolate or puddings was easy. I actually found it really, really hard to eat my daily Points allowance - I think I averaged 27ish most days, and I was on the maximum 36 for months - I literally ran out of ways to add Points when doing the initial calculation, and it never allowed going below 28 for a man. But my body acclimatised and I felt full; lots of veg and other low-/no- Point foods is the key. That and the occasional binge to wake the body up, during which it fails to absorb most of the calories you push through anyway, because it's not prepared. All of that meant I was dropping between 4 and 6 pounds a week, week in and week out, for the first 5 stones or so. It was only when I was within the last stone it got to a more reasonable 0.5 to 2 a week. With no exercise. Doesn't work any more. I'm in my 30s, am not single, and like drink and food much, much more than I did then.
