Games, eh? Erm. *scratches a bit* Oo. That shouldn't be that colour. Erm. Ah!

So, you have your GTA4, your COD4 etc. But what about the 'other' games? Hmm? I've never once seen someone talk about other games, the less cool or the less popular. Perhaps the less good, but also, less expensive.

I bought Superman Returns which I look forward to being appalled by later. I recently played through and completed Lost, which is actually worse than the Consolevania review may have suggested.

I was annoyed the other day, to load up Rez XBL, only to find that my fucking saves had been mysteriously deleted. I blame Rez. Most annoyed.

And so on. Other games! Any games!

Adventures of the Ribbit King is the best game ever.

I'd recommend it to anyone with a Gamecube or PS2, or later machine that can play those formats.

In short, if you have the 60gb machine (only sold till Octoberish last year), yes.

Otherwise, no.

After GTA4 and Ninja Gaiden next month.

For those on the fence.

"The game is based on the fictional sport of Frolf, which is a golf like game that is played with frogs.".

It DOES work on 60gb PS3s apparently.

Test Drive has it's own thread. Ooh yeah, Ninja Gaiden PREVIEW. Bit of a mixed review in Edge this month. I know a certain member of this forum had a copy a few weeks ago for reviewing purposes... I wonder if they had the same problem as Edge with the camera.. *gazes towards Southampton*

I love it. It's just so funny. You don't hit the frogs as if they were golf balls - they are on little springboard type paddles - you hit the paddle with your hammer and the frog flies in your set direction. it's not traditional golf were you have to get it to the goal in the fewest number of strokes, but rather chain together a number of multipliers and trigger off different obstacles to build up points each time you send your frog flying.

Everything about the game is superb, and you should all buy it today.

Deus Ex 2 for 1p. ONE PEE.

Ok, £2 including postage, but even if you think it's a big pile of shit it's worth that much.

Errr, must buy newer games. I had a quick rip through Homeworld 2 the other day. It still holds up fairly well as far as space-based RTS goes.

• A science-fiction RPG for the DS called Infinite Line, where you play as a starship captain, customising your ship and crew.
• A Wii game called MadWorld. ...it’s, “Black and white Sin City graphics, with red blood. Ultra ultra violent. Fatality moves like shoving a post through someone’s head. Chainsaw on your right arm.”

I'm a bit tempted by Skate, since its come under unanimous praise, and remains one of the highest-rated games on the 360. However, I've never rollerskated, rollerbladed, skatboarded, boogie-boarded or Ziked, and have never 'really' played any of the Tony Hawks games beyond a few minutes of dossing about. How do you think I'd get on?

I described it as the Forza to Tony Hawk's "Burnout".

On reflection I may have been a little kind to both games there but it's different enough to be absolutely you worth doing some dicking around with a demo.

I am playing Superman Returns on my 360.

"Game complete: 25%. Total time played: 0 days, 1 hours, 13 minutes, 3 seconds."

One of the biggest achievements it has is for playing it for 12 hours or more. The name of this achievement? "The Greatest Day". Well, quite.

So far, Cars > Superman Returns > Lost > Eragon

Ha! Just noticed a quite nice reflection shader, whilst flying close to a skyscraper. Lovely effect of the cityscape behind me - so I turn and... oh, it's not there, there's just another, similarly huge skyscraper. Reflecting a different cityscape. I fly up to check and - yep, if these skyscrapers weren't blocking each other, and there weren't dozen of others in the way too then yeah, I guess that would the reflection alright. :nerd:

It's a whole lot easier to just reflect the sky box than to do anything more. Rendering the entire cityscape for each reflection would be too costly, at most a few dynamic objects would be rendered in the reflection.

They just don't expect you to notice, and by and large, people don't, along with badly corrupted or double shadows and other such visual faults.

Mr Russ wrote:

There are lots of timed bonus missions and stuff - the main missions, so far, have consisted of a few robots blowing up some shit, so you hit 'em about a bit. If you don't, they do lots of damage to the city. Yes. The CITY has a health bar.

Fortunately, you can help buy back some time by picking up injured citizens, and depositing them at a nearby ambulance. Unfortunately, the ambulances (like everything else) are found by just running/flying about in the hope of seeing a red exclamation mark. Which is tricky, since you're being shot at and stuff. And then when you do find them, you have yo stand a foot or two away from it, so your passenger will disembark. Except, if you do so too far away, they just collapse and you have to pick them back up again.

Sound hard doesn't it? It's not, so far it's been an absolute walk in the park. It's still better than Lost, Eragon and Kameo, though.

Mr Dave wrote:

Aye, I understand the technicalities of it - it's just rubbishy in how it works. They'd have been better off leaving it out, especially since it looks so rubbish anyway ;)

to be honest, the main joy of Skate is that it's not Tony Hawk. it's so nice to see skating done differently. it's very nice and the controls are pretty intuitive. it's got a nice slow and sprawling feel to it as well. a nice break from the usual FPS stuff.

i love it but am pretty sure it wont be everyone's cup of tea.
