We often get people stealing innards from the lab PCs here, as most of them aren't covered by CCTV. The machines are all lashed together, so to steal one, one must steal all 12 with monitors, keyboards, mice and desks still attached. However, someone with a little bit of mechanical sense would be able to simply open the case and steal memory or processors. Even a motherboard once, I shit you not.

We saw a space cow hoofing through the area, and thought it might be suspect, but when I sprintingly intercepted her and we both slowed down to shuffle, my special staring eyes saw that she was innocent, and we passed, and resumed our mutual running.

Yeah, it sounds like you don't need a security team so much as someone to, y'know, notice if someone's carrying an entire PC around with them.

I like to think that they broke the staff fridge first and then stashed the stolen PC inside, and then turned up 15 minutes later posing as fridge repair men and carried the whole thing away. Would have had to be an inside job though.

Seriously. They turned up on a low-loader and just took it. A serious
ocean-going thing, it was.

We got involved because we were the solicitors for the Sheriff of
Greater London, and we did bailiff's work. It was seized for a debt,
while it was at anchor in the South of France.

The bloke who bought it[1] had had engine trouble, and had Telexed
(remember them?) the builders giving the serial numbers so he could get
the right bits, and the builders went...

"Oi! OI!!!! We recognise this!"

And so there was an argument over whose it really was, which is when we
got called in. In the end, it went to the insurers who'd paid out on the
theft, IIRC.

We also seized a Boeing 707, but that's another story....

[1] Believe it or not, he actually said he'd bought it off a bloke he
met in a pub.[2]
[2] And, it turned out, he really, really had. You couldn't make it up.

We're pretty good at locking stuff away here so if stuff gets pinched, it's usually crap that we've no need to lock away. The last thing was a laptop with a knackered screen that we just used for hooking up to a TV. They were welcome to it.

Oh god. Lunchtime naps always leave me groggy all afternoon.

Speaking of "grogg", why was the ship-board booze called "grog"? Etymology me do.

[...]supposedly an allusion to Old Grog, nickname of Edward Vernon (1684-1757), British admiral who wore a grogram cloak and who in August 1740 ordered his sailors' rum to be diluted. George Washington's older half-brother Lawrence served under Vernon in the Carribean and renamed the family's Hunting Creek Plantation in Virginia for him in 1740, calling it Mount Vernon.

The name "grog" probably came from the nickname of Admiral Vernon, who was known as "Old Grog" because he wore a grogram cloak. American Dialect Society member Stephen Goranson has shown that the term was in use by 1749, when Vernon was still alive.

Oh the torment! During that brief period yesterday when the missus was out, the DHL man arrived with my copies of Borderlands and Fort-sa 3! AND when she went round later to collect them, they were out!

Got them now though. Except, having claimed them I then immediately had to head off to work.

TONIGHT, THOUGH. :)

Crazy lady at work trying to find out where she was baptised. I tentatively suggested the mental hospital, which probably didn't help. Now everyone else has wandered off, leaving only me and a volunteer with her.

Bit frightened. If I don't make it, tell my kids I was indifferent to their existence.

I don't know where I was baptised, though I do know my parents decided to baptise my younger brother (as well as one of my mum's friend's daughters, in a joint ceremony) on my birthday. I was ignored practically all day, and to top it off they bought me a fucking Everton cake. I spent most of the day sulking in my room. Emo.

Does anyone know if it's possible to move a save game from an XBOX1 to a 360?

The missus has put a lot of legwork into Burnout 3 and doesn't feel like playing it on the old system. I don't blame her. I guess you need some sort of USB device. I can FTP to the (chipped) Xbox if that helps?
