The Austrian is talented but he needs a much better song.

Likewise. Why did all our public points go to them?!

That Israel song was so bad, I don't fully understand how it did so well.

That was really difficult to sit through.

Austria weren’t my favourite, but I’m so glad they won.

Much as I hate to generalise... Yeah, probably.

Your local climate change-denying, Trump-supporting, bicycle-hating Facebook Weirdo who is more Islamophobic than they are anti-Semitic also tends to support Israel. And there are a surprising number of them hiding in the suburbs here. Like with many other things, their numbers may be small, but if that small number all vote for the same thing whilst the more sensible populous all scatter their votes amount 25 other candidates, the minority viewpoint is still likely to win.

It’s definitely a political vote. There is no way that song deserved to be in the top half of the table.

Also, I do want to say, every single Jewish person I know, which admittedly is a small sample, supports Palestine.

In the end it’s never about the songs.

I'm not a Eurovision guy at all but there was one genuinely good song a few years ago.

And this acoustic version is great.

And a version where the singer is making platski, or verenki, in her kitchen. I can't remember which one it is. My mum made that shit when I was growing up and I hated it.

Quote:
Israel's success in the public vote at last weekend's Eurovision Song Contest has prompted calls from a string of countries to examine the results and voting system.

Singer Yuval Raphael came top of the viewer vote on Saturday with her ballad New Day Will Rise, but finished second overall to Austria when jury scores were also taken into account.

Broadcasters in Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Iceland and Finland have since raised concerns or questions about the public vote, with some requesting an audit.

Seems OTT, doesn't it? Not hard to imagine that in heightened times those who want to give Israel a pump will be motivated to vote for it, while any opposition that thinks of eurovision as a place to dissent is going to be spread among all the other countries.

I've read that the Israeli government were paying for adverts online asking people to vote for them. I certainly saw a couple on YouTube in the days before the competition.
