Cheap/free Kindle versions of all those books that sit on your shelf for display purposes only.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1001373341

Launching October. Hopefully not a US only thing.

I have dozens of Amazon-bought unread books on my shelf, and I've already re-bought a few for Kindle, so this is great for me.

They've also announced an updated Paperwhite with better lighting and a higher contrast screen. Think I'll pass on that, since I already have the current Paperwhite. Unless they announce a touch screen one with page turn buttons as well, I'll stick with what I've got. I miss the buttons!

It's quite a shrewd move really. Might convince a few more people to bag a Kindle if they know they're going to have a bunch of books available when it arrives.

Shelves are so 2012.

Every wall in my house is covered in mirrors.

I have loads of books on my shelves. I don't read them. That's the point!

It would be great if magazine publishers would follow suit and give a free iPad version with a print subscription.

The new Paperwhite has some cool features. Hope the current model gets an update with everything included. Goodreads built in is cool, and the flashcard word-learning thing is genius!

I finally got around to taking a look at this and you might have to pay for the books it matches if you want them. BOO.

Yep, it seems it's down to the publishers to set the price for the discounted/free Kindle version
