What's the deal with the backwards compatibility? Is it for all games / selected games (like the 360's with the original Xbox) and does it extend to games from Live.
I was thinking of a PS4 when upgrading but depending on what it will be compatible with I may think about the Xbox.

£1.6M on the Shenmue 3 kickstarter, it's clearly going to hit its target in less than 24 hours and then probably smash all Kickstarter records ever.
I have massively fond memories of Shenmue 1 and 2 on my Dreamcast, but I also remember quite a lot of being a bit tedious and waffley (and not that great as a game), but I put up with it because I was a lot younger and it was the fashion of the time and we didn't have much else like it.
Will the same sort of thing fly in 2017? I really don't know.
Never played it. Not interested in that, or Last Guardian.
Final Fantasy 7 though?
Yes.
I've been playing FFX HD and enjoying the hell out of it... which is weird, cos I played the original version to nearly the end and I remember it leaving me cold. More classic FF would be excellent.
Although, the Last Guardian does look interesting. How it plays will be the question... That big animal thingy is gonna die, right. (Also it's reminiscent of Vicar Amelia from Bloodborne, which is a bit weird )

Well, Shenmue 3 is coming. Maybe. It has a kickstarter, and has 31 days to hit $2 million. It's aleady just shy of $1.3 million. *crosses everything*
Why is a massive studio doing s kickstarter? They muse be laughing their tits off at removing risk from a production and being able to make money from it.

Y'know what's a good title for a game? KILLZONE. Man, I love that name. Short. Punchy. Sounds kinda cool.
Y'know what's a terrible name for a game? Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Anyway, Killzone developers have made said terribly named game on what looks like a big budget. It's got something going for it - an interesting concept. One that's been done to death in TV and film nevertheless but still fairly interesting even if it's a facsimile of Terminator & The Matrix.
Let's look at a copious amount of ARGH THE LENSE FLARE IN MY EYES.
Is it Monster Hunter? Is it The Last of Us? Etc etc.
My biggest gripes are:
1) cutting away from the action to show the big monster stomping through. It's unnecessary and cheap and could easily be done while retaining control over the player and the impact of a big dinosaur appearing in the distance. 2) SHUT THE FUCK UP. Jesus, she yaks on dunt she? She even says that she has to be quiet while she's within feet of a beasty. The irony was lost on whoever made this. 3) The amount of sun burn is a bit crackers. Less is more etc.
And so on because Guerilla Games can't do stories. They just can't do them. Every single Killzone has had a terrible story implemented terribly. I'm sure they're are all about the bombast, lens flares and making stuff look pretty but every single one of their games has zero atmosphere. They can't build decent compelling stories no matter how nice their games look on a superficial level.
So I for one am unimpressed at a walkthrough that implies the game will have no atmosphere and plenty trademark fuck ups.
I did like the wires that shoot into the ground though.

I rather believe you've just answered your own question.

It's not a massive studio is it? As I understand it Yu Suzuki has been after making this game for over a decade but could never get a studio to back him.
EDIT - And his own studio and/or himself didn't have to cash to try it. I think that's it anyway.
I think so, the first two games were a) hideously expensive and b) didn't exactly sell well enough to justify that expense. Getting people to pay up front was probably the only way this was ever getting made.
Just had a quick look on Wikipedia which says both Shenmue and Shenmue II were mega-expensive to make and didn't really sell that well, despite huge critical acclaim.
The first one in particular cost $70M to make and would have needed to have been purchased twice by every Dreamcast owner to turn a profit.
Thereafter Shenmue 3 was much talked about but didn't happen for all sorts of reasons, but financial concerns are reckoned to have played a big part.
Against that backdrop it seems to me like a perfect candidate for Kickstarter.
Incidentally it is now at $2M so funding has been achieved. (Well, $1.92M as I type this.)
Even if it goes to 300/400% or more of the target, looks like they'll have to make it for cheaper than the originals!

I really like that. It looks great, the atmosphere seems pretty good, a character as the person I am controlling, rather than a dumb interface (like HL). I await the game's completion with interest, hopefully they can get a decent story, because it would be a real shame if they don't.
I think it looks fucking stupid. "Lets get the lass who looks a bit like the one from Game Of Thrones shooting at Zoids with a bow and arrow, they'll love it."

It's about convincing a publisher to fund development while letting you make the game the way you want to do it. David Braben couldn't do it with Elite and Brian Fargo couldn't do it with Wasteland 2, so they went to Kickstarter which enabled them to self publish.
Also, in Elite's case it turned out the Kickstarter profits were only a fraction of the money needed, and it was really about convincing real investers that people actually wanted the game.
I have to imagine that a game like Shenmue 3 will also be much more expensive to develop than what the Kickstarter goal suggests.
I must admit I have misgivings about this Shenmue 3 Kickstarter, but I have decided to back at the $29 digital copy level. Given the speed at which this is collecting backers, they really should add some clearer stretch goals, because according to the video it seems the amount of locations (and so the length of the game) will depend directly on the total amount pledged.
EDIT: In fact, the should really flesh out what they actually intend to make, because there is almost no real information on the Kickstarter page, hence my misgivings.
