From the camera thread.

Attached is an untouched photo. What would/can you do with it in Photoshop?

I'm not sure I'd do much bar boosting the whites a bit and stopping the vertical lines from converging (and straightening, or making the tilt more apparent).

Aye, a bit of perspective correction, some exposure adjustment, shop a burttank into the square, up the blues. That sort of thing.

I think the idea (correct me if I am wrong, Grimster...) is that folks photoshop/adjust/fix the picture and all post their results in the thread.

EDIT: you were posting as I was. OK, good.

Cropped, straightened, adjusted the RGB colours individually (and slightly over the top), border, healed out the heat spot in the middle.

I'm convinced there's a good photo in here somewhere - but where should it be cropped?

Tricky. That screen is the problem. But you can't crop it out without losing the riders.

Also the back of the last horse is cropped or else you could perhaps have an interesting shot with the screen in. Also, the background is a bit messy and the contrast between it and the horses and the two horses with each other isn't too great. I'd probably just go quite close on the leading two horses to see a bit more of the detail.

I've gone for an XTR33M crop. It's using the small version only, so would probably look better done on the original.

I'd crop it here.

THREAD HIJACK!

I've been given a picture by my MiL's friend of her daughter dressed up for a dance recital. It's a grainy, low res phone shot, but the mother really likes it. She's asked if I can get rid of the background and make the daughter 'pop' more. Problem is, she's doing jazz hands so here fingers are blurry.

Any tips, Photoshop gurus?

Noise reduction will get rid of the grain but introduce softening. No idea what you'll do about the blur. Sharpen it up a bit and hope it's not too noticeable?

Without seeing it I can't really suggest what to do. I will say there's probably no quick fix for what you're describing.

You can PM me if you want me to have a go at improving it.

I may do that. Currently I'm forensically rebuilding her hands with a layer mask :)

Do a Frankenstein and find some suitable hands from elsewhere, if time is an issue.

Not much you can do with jazz hands, but I've seen a few portraits with blur and grain in them that work. Trick is to work with it, not try to mask it. Without seeing it I'm not sure, but I'd go for B&W. That way you can leave in some of the noise grain giving it a film effect without being forced to get rid of all of it and thus end up smearing the detail. I use Lightroom only usually so I can't do radical edits, but I could take a look as well if you like?

If I were to ask really nicely, would it be possible for someone to add a santa hat to a photo that I supply them?
