The only gave me the wrong bloody graphics card. A 4350 instead of a 4850.

They did include a bonus Nvidia 9500GT though...

Sadly both of those are about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Are they going to send the right card out?

That's a bit shit. If they haven't got any of the 4850 cards to give you, get them to send a genuinely comparable card to the 4850, as neither 9500GT or 4350 cut the mustard. A 9800GTX is a close match.

I've got a 9500gt in my media centre. It's about the fastest passively cooled card I could find.

A 9800GTX is a really good card. IMO if you get a good one they're comparable to the 4870. A 9800GT would be about the same as a 4850.

Good olde VCS has the 9800GTX for cheap. It's the good one in the 200 series package too (heat sink etc).

http://videocardshop.co.uk/product.asp? ... V-T98W-YDD

They did have a sligthly slower clocked one for £60 but it appears to be gone :(

It's nice, but it's no 4850.

Yeah, I'll either be getting the right card sent out, or something equivalent.

In the meantime, looks like the 9500gt will perform better, right?

Edit: Ideally they'll forget about the 9500gt and I can use it as a dedicated physics card.

Yup. You need to be incredibly careful when buying new generation cards as the model number makes them sound all big and hard and muscular. When what they really are is curry pumps.

Hence my chocolate teapot statement.. Wasn't being nasty, but neither are much cop tbh. Funny how a 7800 series craps on a 9500 eh? Crafty fuckers they are. I remember when the 5 series Geforce cards came along. Loads of my mates saw the 5250 and said "wow, all that for £120 !"

In reality their existing 4 series cards pooed on the 5250 and they were very dissapointed chappies.

Of course it does, because it's a good card and always was. I mean for example. 5250 released with a few in between, but the master of the party was the 5950u. And, for a couple of years all the cards Nvidia were relabelling and rebadging were roughly the same spec wise lol. When I got my 1650 pro the 3870 was the absolute elite ATI were making. And good top end parts like that die a much slower death than shit ones. That's basically why I got the 280. Because it was at some point a flagship model like your 3870 and thus won't be heavily beaten for ages and ages.

I really need some more memory to do it justice. Which probably means changing the motherboard. Which probably means changing OS, due to OEM vista not liking motherboard changes overly much (Anyone got a nice cheap copy of win7 Pro?). And even then, I'd probably want a CPU upgrade too.

Sigh.

I was hoping for a 4850 for pretty much the reasons JC is saying. The reason I didn't get to pick is it's an replacement via insurance. Although they did say I would get a 4850, so I am going to get either that or better.

Can't for the life in my spot my card on that thread. I do :luv: my 4850 though.

The first ever GFX card I got was the FX5200. OUCH. Upgraded to a 6200 and then a 6600GT which was lovely, until one day it blew up while playing San Andreas. Replaced it with a 7600GS which was as high as I could go on AGP. Years passed. Nations fell. Then one day I got my new PC, and the 4850, and now I weep for joy. Weep, good sirs! :'(

I did all of that bit by bit. Picking off the deals one by one. The £270 Alienware was a stop gap really. I just wanted a solid PC that didn't break every five minutes.

The 280 came along for £169.99 plus a fiver shipping. Refurb, but with a full year's warranty. After that I got a new mobo and CPU (£240 total) and so on.

Worked it out the other day. I have spent £750. On.

Alienware ALX
Phenom 940BE @ 3ghz
280 GTX XXX (642 as opposed to stock 602mhz)
4gb DDR2 800mhz (good stuff too)
Asus Crosshair 2
750w psu
Raid 250gb baracudas
500gb storage drive (also a bara)
water cooling system
Blu Ray (Sony player affair)
NEC SATA dvdrw
Wireless NIC
Silverstone Media panel (and this accounts for £65 of the cash)
Raptor (though I don't use it now due to it's noise levels).

Which tbh would be pretty hard to beat if you went out and brought the same one now. What I didn't list was the 'surplus' stuff that also came in the £750 that's all sitting under the bed.

EVGA Nforce 680i triple SLI motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.4ghz
Foxconn cooler
Noctua NF9 cooler
Soundblaster X-FI Xtreme
Teratec Aureon 5.1

And I probably have a ton more crap under there that I have taken out and forgotten lol.

Pete. Your 4850 is up the top nestled next to the 8800GTX+, 9800GTX+ and so on.

Depends on if you've got a male or female, master or slave unit. ("Stop this," - ed.)

You you use youe xbox for gaming, or is it for facebook, twitter, watching movies and listening to music. :)

The reason I asked in the first place is that I haven't seen any gaming discussion in here for at least 73 pages.

You know when you just love a picture, to an extent you cannot explain? That.
