We're going here tonight and having their Dinner at Eight menu.

You can take your own wine.

I have tomorrow booked off work. :attitude:

Fuck me what a day. Sat there this morning doing some last minute tweaks to a system I've been putting together (it's to allow our hospital doctors to securely send patients GPs a summary of their stay in hospital together with a list of any meds they might need, quite a big deal as these sorts of things go it needs to go through several staff groups before completion). Anyway an hour to go and I'm just ready to make the final changes to the system to allow all the right people to do all the things they need and swap over to the list of GP email addresses when POOF my laptop just goes off. Reboot it and I'm presented with some Spackafee screen. Some belmer in back office had accidentally pushed their drive encryption software out pretty much across the network. Problem is nobody now had the requisite credentials to be able to access their own PC

:belm:

Anyway you'll all be thrilled to learn that I finally got the system up and running and everyone was so thrilled with it that a vast crowd soon gathered outside my office and wouldnt let me leave until they had carried me aloft on their arms, chanting my name.

Fucking hell. Whatever I say to the people wielding scissors, I always end up with a short back and sides. I'm going to look like a schoolkid going on work experience tomorrow. And it cost me £6.50 for a haircut.

I suspect the first and second points are related.

I suspect that's also related. You get what you pay for, and a tenner isn't going to stretch far.

I'm too cheap to get a beard trim at the same time, so I have to remember to clipper it myself before I go the barbar's, else I end up looking silly.

The one I usually go to has never been the same since the hot young female Polish hairdressers left....

I just wrote a bloody essay for my child's homework, and by essay I mean I copied what it said about tinsel and concrete from wikipedia and put it in small child language ( I explained what it all means so she understands). They gave her a week to do it and she was ill for 5 days of it but the teacher said she had to do it anyway or face detention, seems a bit off to me to give 7 year olds essays to do - it's the head teacher's new thing this year and it's pissing everyone off. They have to read three school books per week, which is fine up to a point* she does that anyway but then the parents have to write in the book and question them about whatever dull, politicly correct, unfunny, unexciting shit that happened, also they do spellings each night and on top of that they get a big weekly homework project and daily homework. On Halloween she had to write a damn play for the next morning.

*the books are too easy for her, I told the teacher and she said they were "at her level", which worried me because surely you should be challenging them with words not giving them something they know they can already do. Anyway I am rebelling and putting down what she is really reading at home instead, screw biff and whatever that dog is called and the boring stolen food, she really reads winnie the pooh, blyton and the rest of the good stuff.

I've never paid more than £8. As long as it looks tidy, it'll do. Any more is like pouring perfume on a pig.

I pay a tenner, but I've moved to a hairdresser who works from home so doesn't have the same overheads. Were she to work in a proper salon/hairdresser thing, I'd be paying £30-40 and worth every penny.

The last hair cut I paid for cost me £86.

Now I just stand by the hedge twice a year and wait for the Department of Infrastructure to do it.

I've cut my own hair (what I have left) for the past 12 years or so. Imagine how much money I have saved!

Although, all things being equal, I would have liked to have saved that money by just growing my hair long :(

I used to cut my own hair. I just love the feel of having it cut. I rarely get pampered, living my Valhalla Rising-like lifestyle, so I take what luxury I can.

I pay £30 for a haircut. Mrs T says it looks so much better than the cheap barber down the road. I can't tell any difference.

In other news, I spent yesterday evening with a bunch of nerds playing counter strike in a hotel conference room, I didn't even do that geeky shit when I was at uni doing a computing course...

... and it was awesome fun :D

So, waht I thought was the bag containing shoe polishing stuff is, in fact, containing hair clippers. Quick run to the hop and my shoes are now 'acceptable' and I'm re-reading the annual report from last year. And trying to think of answers to the three questions that they sent me.

one was an example about resolving problems in a team that didn't get on, so I'll talk about robots malfunctioning, or a booking system or something; one was how one reacts when priorities suddenly shift and the final one is about remaining polite, calm and approachable when dealing with a situation, so I'll mention something about the train station and when a robot broke in the lab and I was trying to fix it whilst lying underneath it, answering questions about molecular biology and cloning and it was 7pm on a friday.
