Heh.
Off the top of my head, I've seen Donny Brasco, Scarface, that one with Joe Pesci, Goodefellas and that recent one with Jack Nicholson and diCaprio.

It hasn't aged very well, I don't think. Goodfellas is better (awesome ending aside, of course).

If it's not that one I'd like to know what other films there are with Joe Pesci and heads in a bag. Is that a sub-genre now?

No, it's a setting, or possible a milieu.

The editing and sound design in *that* scene in Godfather Part One is pants wettingly fabulous.

The rest of it... meh. Brando is a mumbling, overrated idiot

This is Joe Pesci we're talking about. There's probably at least half a dozen.

How can that not be the best film ever made?

I have it on DVD. It's not good. Vaguely funny in it's shitness, but not massively so. (Indeed, it's the first DVD I ever bought. On a recommendation from a friend. For £25. I've never quite forgiven him)

They stand up incredibly well. Get 'em fucking watched. Goodfellas, please.

I've never seen any of the Godfather films because I don't really like films about Gangsters. When on holiday once I caught the first 30 minutes of Goodfellas and so decided to watch it all later. In the end I thought it was rubbish. I hated Casino as well.

Goodfellas is the most over-rated film this side of Shawshank.

Donnie Brasco isn't bad. Most mafia movies do pale next to The Sopranos though, like kissyfur said.

Akira is an interesting choice. Better than Appleseed or Ghost in the Shell, you reckon?

I haven't seen Appleseed, but yes, I'd put Akira above GitS, much as I like the latter.

Appleseed (the original anime) was shockingly bad. I've not seen the posh new one. Ghost in the Shell was pretty, but left me cold. Shirow adaptations largely suffer because they're so poor compared to his ludicrously dense manga. Granted, Akira is the ultimate in weighty manga tomes, but they managed incredibly well in making it 124 mins. Dominion is actually my favourite Shirow adaptation. This is partly because it was allowed more time, and partly because the source material was relatively shallow and... convenient, for want of a better word.

Rivals for anime glory would be Mononoke (natch, as well as Ponyo and My Neighbour Totoro from Miyazake), Project A-Ko and Paprika. I never did see Wings of Honneamise or Patlabor.

But yeah, Akira is better than most things: in danger of being the first film I have bought on VHS, DVD and BD. ;)

Whoever said Captain America was great is a wronghead. It's amiable enough, but it's not even as good as the messy Iron Man 2. It's totally eclipsed by the superb Iron Man and the surprisingly fun Thor.

Really psyched for The Avengers now.

Just watched and enjoyed Stigmata (the film, obviously). When prompted at the start of the DVD it asked for which ending I wanted - theatrical or director's cut. Having never seen either, I went for the latter. From reading up on the film afterwards, this ending seems to make more sense anyway.

I seem to buying a lot more DVDs than games lately. Despite the raving about Dark Souls and the new Batman game, I've not bought either yet.

Kind of this. I've been pretty much underwhelmed by all of the avenger films since Iron Man. CA was ok, Thor was ok.

I thoughly enjoyed Captain America - far better than Iron Man 2 and, for 2011, the truly dire Thor and Green Lantern.

I really liked Iron Man 1+2 (though 1 was the best) didn't really like any of the others. The avengers trailer is promising due to featuring RDJ.

I thought Iron Man 1 was a decent popcorn film, in a Hollywood action style, but nothing more. I'm always surprised at how highly some people rate it.

Just watched "The Broken" it's been a while since a film has sent actual shivers down my spine, some seriously "oh fuck" moments, but it needed something a bit more, a little unsatisfied by the conclusion :(

Still Lena Headey in the nude!

I dunno, I donated my copy of DOA to the Cottage Quiz along with the DVD from last year and my team won them back. I think Jazzy has them.

Silent Hill is pretty decent and the Resident Evil films are watchable.

When I went to see this I forgot what you wrote about it but I will also say: fucking great. The soundtrack was weird though - what the hell was it?

If I had to criticise I thought it was maybe trying a bit too hard to be cool, and suffering for it. It was a little bit like a Kaurismaki film in direction, but actually colder and emptier. Then with some Tarantino-esque cool and violence thrown in. I think it was trying to be a classic, and probably succeeding to some extent.

Hahahaha!

Oh, yeah. I own all of thse. For some reason I don't associate them with the games.

They're good too (except the third), neatly disproving my initial thesis.

How can you forget Milla Jovovovovovovich?

Heathen.

Anyway, saw 'Easy A' at the weekend. Very entertaining, and Emma Stone is ridiculously hot.
