Nice!

3.4. Hopefully not one of the bore-scored ones ;)

It's quite likely that any problems with that or the IMS bearings would have shown up by now.

Put the GT-Four into long term storage to stop it rusting away any more. Left an unsightly gap on our driveway.

Thought about an S2000. Decided against it.

Hopefully I haven't made a terrible decision.

Very nice!

Supposedly the IMS bearings ceased to be an issue from the 2006 cars onwards anyway, same with the RMS. But yeah, hopefully any bore-scoring would have shown itself by now.

I haven’t yet started it up from cold though, lets hope there’s no clouds of blue smoke when I do ;)
Looks good mate..
Nice one, Cavey.
Oooh it does look nice - but looks aren't everything, tell us about its soul

It is actually incredibly nice to drive, I can definitely see why people rave about Porsches.
I’m seriously tempted by a Morgan, having done the factory tour this week.
I was the same after Cadbury’s World.

I’ve always liked the look of them, and my dad had one back in the early 60s but they used old fashioned mechanicals and were out of my budget. Now they swapped to BMW engines and an aluminium chassis it’s more appealing and I could in theory afford one.
You have to really really want one, as by all accounts they are pretty awful.
I've been browsing for a runaround as the mx5 will be living in a garage soon and I'd like to try and keep it nice. Fuck me, cars that I bought for £800 a couple of years back, are now over 2 grand.
I find the pic with the old fella chilling out in test bay 3 to be quite charming.

That was definitely true of the older models, but the current ones get very good reviews.

You should. It will bring you joy.

Top Gear have probably changed their mind since one tried to kill Freddie Flintoff (and possibly the entire TV show).

The second had car market went mental in 2021 and looks like it’s going to take a while to cool down still

That was one of the three wheelers that he parked on the roof.

I'm still waiting for the motorbike to be made, so that's enough frivolous purchases for one year.

Never quite understood the appeal of those.

I believe ReesMogg has one.
Yeah, weirdo-mobiles.
A month or two ago, I had to send the Leaf in for a warranty repair, for what ended up being a wiring fault. Essentially, all of the posh sensors on the car that detected objects around it, the parking sensors, the self-driving systems and emergency braking systems, the blind-spot warning lights etc. all started playing up -- the car realised this was happening and disabled the various systems accordingly, so I took it to Nissan and they diagnosed and fixed the wiring fault, no harm no foul.

After I got the car back though, I noticed the steering wheel was really... scratchy. Like if I turned it lock-to-lock, there'd be a 'scratching' sound coming from behind the wheel, like something was scraping. I figured it wasn't anything to bother them about, I couldn't hear it over the music, so whatever.

Then about three weeks back my airbag warning light came on and stayed on, so I took it back in for another diagnosis and repair.

This time they said it was a broken clock spring -- which I'm guessing explains the scratchy sound. They needed to get the part in, so it took a week and a bit but they replaced it on Thursday and now I've got the car back.

Except I noticed today that when driving straight on, the steering wheel is on the piss by quite some margin. I figured perhaps the tracking was off, but then I remembered that they didn't have to fuck about with the wheels themselves, just the steering wheel -- so they obviously hadn't put it back on properly.

To make matters worse, if I engage the self-driving system then everything goes awry because the steering assist must use the wheel position as it's sensor rather than the steering rack or whatever, because the steering assist will literally drive me off the road by re-centering the steering wheel.

You'd think they'd get this shit right, being a main dealer. Perhaps with it being warranty work they just don't give a shit.

Annoyingly, I was supposed to be going on a long motorway journey on Monday which the self-driving would have been lovely for, but I dare not risk it now. I guess that's just an excuse to take the Boxster instead, though, so not *all* bad.
If I'm driving from the red dot and want to go to the green dot, what lane should I be using over the roundabout?
I'd use the right
The left hand lane I would assume, unless you're going to try an outbraking manoeuvre against a slower opponent.
I'd say left as well, near as damn it to "12 o clock", also it's got that stupid give way just after the exit.

I'd hope the sign you drove past makes it clear.

No, there's no signs. In my experience if one takes the left lane, the cars pull out as they expect one to go left, not over, and the right lane they pull out expecting one to go right.

I just straddle both now

It's madness and I just realized it isn't even a roundabout as the blue line has no give markings (purple) against it.
It is indeed not a roundabout. You should pick left because if there's more than one car sat at that give way in the middle, it'll block the right hand lane from going the way you want to go.
Car Question: Will an OBD reader tell me things that are up with my car, even if the check engine light is not on? i.e. are there error codes worth fixing that don't warrent that light? The darn things are so cheap it seems worth getting one if it'll have a chance of finding an issue. One of my cars is at 70k miles and the other at 100k, so I'm sure some things are wearing out or whatever.
Also, I've obviously spent too much time listening to the Wu-Tang Clan as I kept wanting to write "ODB" during that post.
Yes.

But there are loads of different ones with varying levels of diagnostics. Just have a read up before you buy on your cars model and what it can do.

Or just buy the second cheapest one.
At those milages do you know if the timing belts have been changed. That’s the biggy.
Mali, ask Dr Sprocket.

I shall investigage this. I think the 100k has a chain, rather than a belt.
That’s good then (mine has too).
Chains still stretch and occasionally fail, just not as much as belts.

The Nissan Micra of all things, with its hardcore 1 and 1.2 litre engines, is particularly bad for it.
I've finally managed to do something physical modificationy for the superb - somehow after 5 years I've not needed pads or discs, and the pedal has gone a bit squishy the last few weeks, so I've put brembo stuff all round on hold at the shop at Kidderminster. Not an upgrade as such, basically OEM performance replacement, but it pops the seal.

Last year insurance was £214, this year its £241, much as I want to do stuff to it that is so cheap I don't wanna to give it up. Silly really.
Not quite in the spirit of the thread, but definitely a gas guzzling money pit...

Took my first flying lesson today, in this:

Next lesson is booked for the end of the month...
Awesome! Do a barrel roll!
Nice. It shows on FlightRadar, but not all of the flights unless your lesson was only 11 minutes long

The first time I ever went in a plane was on Markg’s first flying lesson by his brothers mate. It was fucking terrifying.
Howling Mad Richard. He was certifiable, he got a warning from the CAA for buzzing his dad on the golf course. Remember after one lesson we went low level over the sea and I'm pretty sure the wing was about a foot off the water in a turn. He's an airline pilot now.
Yes, he did that when I was there.
Brilliant posts. I can just imagine MarkG and Z in a terrifying plane lesson!

Well don’t in your first (and probably far more sensible) lesson, Gaz.
