Quite possibly the same part number. Just a guess though.

There's a coil pack per cylinder, it sits directly on top of the plug.

Oh, and the car was £935 all in.

The biting point is much narrower and sharper, the pedal is lighter, gear change is less notchy, it barely clanks when turning it off, the old bits were clearly dead (the flywheel bearings were making grinding noises and the springs were really slack).

But because of the shitty snow I can't tell if the revs rising before the speedo (just slightly, momentarily) is something else broken or just the wheels scrabbling. The rear certainly wasn't backward about coming forward at 30 in 3rd when I dabbed the throttle, which I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have done on Monday.

I need to see if the 'pulling itself in gear' kangarooing is gone. Given the amount of play on the flywheel, combined with clutch slipping, I think it might be. I think I'll reset one of the consumption meters too, before I set off to Oxford. If I set off to Oxford - better had be able too, we're now in 100% payment territory on the hotel room.

Could the now very very slight momentary hesitation be the stupid spring in the stupid dual-mass stupid flywheel loading up? It does still clank when I turn it off (if it's what I think it is it would've been a cheap fix done yesterday... sigh), but it doesn't kangaroo now, so that's good.

My new blow-off valve arrived today, and it's a fucking fake! A bloody good fake, but a fake nevertheless.

I expect it'll still work, but I'm not sure I'm 100% happy.

Has to be said though, it's a bit of a concern on something like a 300 HP automatic Lexus, with no key to turn off. It's all very well saying to stomp on the brake, but with the throttle wide open you won't have much brake assist. By the time you figure that out and start really jumping on the pedal, the pads might already have overheated. Then you are a bit knackered.

Lexus's that don't have ignition keys operate a push button start/stop, and you hold down the button for 3 seconds to kill the engine. Not something that many people would immediately think of in a panic, but you would hope that you'd get familiar enough with your car to know what to do in an emergency.

And even automatics have a neutral, right?

But can you shift to neutral whilst the engine is red lining?

I've said it before - all cars should have dead-switches. My racing car has to have one, and that will never have to opportunity to kill as many people as any road car.
A nice, big, physical switch that cuts power from the battery and the alternator. It would cost practically nothing, either.

100% agreed. Most bikes have them, and they're a bloody godsend if anything goes wrong. Pittance to implement, no downsides.

You could use a key, even, to make it lock in the off position when the key is removed!

When I did my CBT, a couple were there learning how to ride 500cc bikes as part of their DAS tuition. They were doing simple maneouvres in the car park and then made their way back to the staging area for a debriefing. The man parked up, turned the ignition off and straddled the bike to listen to the instructor. The woman followed, but screwed up and lost control of the bike on the approach and revved it up in a panic, hurling the bike forward and colliding with her husband's bike. Fortunately he wasn't injured, but the bike started to climb over the now-floored bike and looked like it was going to have a crack at the guy's head when the instructor swooped in and activated the killswitch.

Why cars don't have them has been a source of wonder for me too.

Heh, that must be a fairly common occurrence - the wall of the portacabin at the place I did my DAS had a big dent in it about halfway up.
Instructor: "Remember to let go of the throttle if it gets away from you, or you'll end up embedded in my office like some idiot last year [points at dent]"

Wipers have gone weird again.

They were fine for a while, but after trying to clear a little snow that had settled on the windscreen they started parking higher up, gradually getting worse on my drive home until they parked at the top when I got back.

This morning they completely stopped mid wipe after slowing down, then started again and began parking in a much lower (almost correct but just enough to piss me off) position. I'd hate for them to bork up completely especially if it's bad weather and I have Baba Z on board.

It's 100% not a battery thing.

Beginning to suspect the motor now. Same stuff happened to someone else on the 323 forum.

Technically speaking it's not the motor either, it's the position switch box that's built into it. It does sound like it needs replacing though.

Can you get them on their own or would I need the motor replacing?

Is it something a novice could do?
