I think they're fine. Clicking on the whole thread title takes you to last unread, so it's pretty tricky to do it wrong. Things like clicking on page numbers is trickier, but that's not exactly something you do all the time.

Mouse pointers are pretty accurate. If you're on a mobile device, the mobile skin has 'go to first unread' as default behaviour for clicking on the thread title.
