I know BMI isn't the be all and end all of tests, but for someone who wants to lose weight, tone up and get fitter, it seems the right thing to track, or is it? My plan is to join the gym as I have done many times before, but this time actually go. Before I've only ever thought I should go, rather than need to go, so hopefully I might stick to it a bit more. Plus i'm writing this post so it can get bumped in the future as a reminder if need be and track my progress. [/b:mu4upqno]Set up some burner bank accounts. Good ones to start with are Monzo and Starling because they can be opened super quickly and also they don't do a hard credit search. You might as well do that today as they're good to have. Also, I quite like Chase as their basic account lets you set up ten accounts in the app. [b:mu4upqno]Step 3. [/b:mu4upqno]Find a bank switching deal. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banki ... ts/#switch They all have different conditions. First Direct - £200. Pay in £1000 (I don't think it all has to be at once. Usually you can put in a smaller amount, take it out, put it back in etc. You need 2x direct debits (see step 4). NatWest/RBS - £200. You can do either but not both, they're part of the same banking group. Pay in £1250 (again, can be smaller amounts). No direct debits needed. Santander - £180. Not great though as you need 2x direct debits that have to be household bills. Bit of a faff. Barclays - £200. Need 2x direct debits. Pay in £2000 (again, smaller amounts). Nationwide - £175. 2x direct debits. Pay in 1000. Make at least one debit card payment with them (a cheap Amazon voucher is a good shout). It's worth sticking with these guys as every year they do a loyalty bonus of £100. There's a couple of conditions there but it's worth doing. Also, you can get two switches (solo account and joint account). And whoever you do the joint account with can also do a solo switch. Bank of Scotland - £175. 3x debits. No pay in. Not the same as RBS by the way. Sometimes you can't be an existing customer, sometimes you can. Usually they don't like it if you've had a bonus from them before, sometimes they can't figure that out. Each switch is different. [b:mu4upqno]Step 4[/b:mu4upqno] - get some direct debits. The two best ones are Plum and Moneybox. These are savings apps where you can tell them to take a set amount from your bank account each week. So you're not losing that money, just moving it. Put like £20 into your burner bank accounts. And then tell Plum and Moneybox to take the minimum out each week (1-2 quid). Keep an eye on that as you don't want to get down to zero in the burner. You can always withdraw the money from Plum/Moneybox bank into the burner. I generally like to wait until Plum and Moneybox have both taken at least one debit, so I know they're active. If you need a third direct debit you can add your burner to your PayPal as a debit source. That works also. [b:mu4upqno]Step 5[/b:mu4upqno] - Set up an account with the bank you want to switch to. Ideally go through their switching page if they have one (just google Barclays switch offer or whatever). Some banks will do a hard credit search, some won't. But look, I've done this like 15 times or whatever and the credit score hit really wasn't all that much. During set up it'll ask you if you want this to be a switch. Say yes and put in the burner details. Generally there's a little wait for the account to set up. Make sure to also get the new bank's app or at least sign up to online banking on your computer. And then pay in whatever it asks you to pay in. Again, this can be done in batches. [b:mu4upqno]Step 6[/b:mu4upqno] - get the bonus. Be happy about it. At this point I generally try to put it somewhere else other than in my main bank. A savings account or whatever so it keeps growing. Moneybox (one of the direct debit apps I mentioned has the market leading cash ISA at the moment so you could just fling it in there). But you do you. [b:mu4upqno]Step 7[/b:mu4upqno] - switch from that bank to some other bank offering a bonus. I like to have a couple of switch chains going. So banks that need direct debits, I'll go from one to the next. While banks that don't need direct debits will be another chain. My switching chains have been. A - Monzo - First Direct (175), Santander (175), Nationwide (200), Lloyds (200), Natwest (200), Ulster (200). For some reason I can't seem to log into Ulster now, so that chain is dead. And now Monzo won't let me rejoin. No biggie though. B - Starling - TSB (125), RBS (200), HSBC (failed, picked the wrong account type), Barclays (175), Lloyds (200 - for some reason Lloyds aren't any good at detecting a double dip), Nationwide (175 - joint account). C - Halifax (my main bank, I just set up a second account there but with no bonus) - Co-op (125). Co-op also did a refer a friend deal so I got 2x 125 for referrals. D - Chase - Barclays (Barclays are good at detecting a double dip and so that did fail) - Bank of Scotland (in progress now, could fail because they have a clause saying you can't have had money out of Lloyds I think. We'll see.). That's £2400 over the last four years for a bit of admin faff. I also got Mrs Blucey onto this and she's earned just as much. Some parts of it are thoroughly excellent, especially "Kriss Kross*", "Cockateels" and "Get Over It". Some very stirring and symphonic moments, and I love the samba rhythms on "Cockateels". My previous heavy rotation iPod album was Mike Doughty's "Golden Delicious". The former singer from 'Soul Coughing' has been solo for a while, but I think this might be his most polished record since he left the band. It is, admittedly, pandering to a far more MOR audience than his previous work (Soul Coughing being wonderfully alternative), but it has a great deal of charm to it, in my opinion at least. That said, it has not been particularly well received in terms of reviews. Standout tracks would be "Fort Hood", "I Just Want The Girl In The Blue Dress To Keep On Dancing" and "Like a Luminous Girl". I also also recently coem by new CDs by Hot Chip, We Are Scientists, Turin Brakes, MGMT and Panic at the Disco.
