It's still broken via EE.
I didn't realise Beex was particularly slow. Maybe I'm just too laid back and casual, like.
It wasn't, but faster is better.

It should work for everyone by now.
Nope. Still not for me. Stupid JANET network
Flush you DNS, bro!
Yeah, still doesn't work for me. Though fuck alone knows what kind of monstrous networking setup Evil Inc are using.
I think I'm going to power it up for www. as well, which will work as it'll be sitting on the same IP.

If it does break though, have you both got a way of getting a message to me?

Facebook
Oh yeah, of course. I'll just wait to make sure Bamba has read this.
It just kicked in for me on EE

Yeah, Facebook. Or I can PM you by hitting the site on my phone.

Same. So, go for it!
Okay, there we go. Everyone can go back to using http://www.beexcellenttoeachother.com .
That seems to work fine! Cheers, Benevolent Overlord!
Yep, still works here.
Are you going to tell us what you did? I'm curious in general, but even more so after that hint that you shouldn't tell us. I can't imagine what kind of website optimisation could be a dirty secret... ;)

What about after a few beers?
Almost certainly.
Drunken internet chat is the best chat
My experience so far is that the first initial connection to load the site is noticeably slower, but every subsequent pageload is quite a bit faster.
Could you kindly add the giphy bbcode button to the mobile skin, benevolent overlord?
Giphy "yes":

I've made it a better too, so now you can just hit the button and it'll insert the tag at the caret and then move the caret to the middle of the two tags so you can just keep typing.

Also it's a bit more efficient. You'll never notice unless you look at the code but it was bugging me.
As always, shout if it isn't working.
Also I added a PM button to the posts, because it's not like there isn't room.

Agree. Most of my posts are pretty contentless.

Ah! I was looking for that on Friday and noticed it was missing! Good thing!
I'm going to force https so the site can use http/2. If that causes problems for anyone then let me know.

Yeah, I should have just fixed that.

You have :-)
Works, although Zaphod's sig loads over http and triggers a mixed content warning. Guess you can't do much about that though.

I can remove the sig ....

Well, there are some things that could be done...
lol now my avatar is doing the same thing, weird how that didn't show up in the network requests panel.

//edit: fixed, and obviously it wouldn't have shown up before I posted because my avatar wasn't on the page.
No-one saw that, right?

/whistles
Nope.. Has the forum clock always been wrong? It said you posted this after 6pm.

Hang on.. Ignore that, it looks OK now.

Hello... I’m getting this on the mobile site
Oh yeah, stop using fast.beex[etc].

I'll forward it.

Could you please just remind me of the link for the mobile site as I changed my front screen bookmark thingy to go to the one you gave a few days ago and have lost the other now. :D
Times are a-changing, friends. Well, actually, times a-changed quite a while ago.

When Beex started in 2008 Duffy was topping the charts and it wasn't until four months later that Apple decided to release an iPhone that actually had a 3G connection, and many members were still connecting via dialup. Therefore it made sense for Beex to keep image and page sizes down.

It's not 2008 any more (sorry if that is a shock to some of you) and Beex has a lot of pages (roughly 33,000 of them) containg 30 posts each. I'd like to experiment with upping that to 100 posts each.

It doesn't make much difference to the page size (unless there are a lot of images) because a good chunk of that is taken up by the JavaScript code to make the page go (especially in the mobile skin), so things should still load quickly.

WHAT SAY YOU, CITIZENS OF BEEXLAND?
Fine with me. Hell, make it a thousand ;)
I say: I HAVE NO STRONG OPINION ON THE MATTER EITHER WAY AND I *DEMAND* THAT YOU DO AS YOU SEE FIT!!!!

That's basically in place for fun now. We can make it a 30 page limit instead?
