Beardy Beardy Beer outing

Shunt! is a theatre group that I've mentioned in the other thread about London.
DO NOT BE PUT OFF! There is no need to watch the theatre stuff - they have a bar. This entrance to this bar is located in London Bridge underground station, at which point you are given a torch and told to follow the white line that leads to the bar, through the pitch-black abandoned underground network.
It's very wierd, slightly creepy and properly cool.

Craster and I will be going - do any of you excellent people want to come?

I originally suggested a date of 30th May so MaliA could come, but Fridays are really busy for them and the door fee goes from £5 to £10 and there's a good chance you won't get in, so I recommend we instead try to go on Thursday 29th May (sorry Mali).

It's also a bit expensive - I seem to remember two bottles of Red Stripe and two shots of Sambuca coming to £12.

To try and avoid some of the hostility and headache we got on the WoS thread: This isn't a real 'club' and we don't want to alienate anyone that can't get to London - the basic premise is: Craster and I are going for a beer. Fancy joining us?

People going:
Grim...
Craster
Curiosity
Squirt
Zio
Sir Taxalot (once ha mans up and makes the correct decision)
Dudley
Pencil me in a a 'yes' for the time being, it sounds ace.
As someone who lives in Manchester I am extremely upset that you've done this JUST TO EXCLUDE ME.
You jest Comical, but there were people pretty much saying that the last time we did this MR FFS FACE

Mrs A was in manchester yesterday, chatting to an author. It didn't take her too long to get home, and the train continues ALL THE WAY INTO LONDON AS WELL.

But I had to go and pick her up from the station which cut into my lager drinking time.
So, the entertainment isn't much, but there's a bar, but the bar is really expensive and also busy. With you and Craster there.

Worst. Pitch. Ever.
No, it's not busy on Thursdays.
Count me in for this exciting adventure!
I also recommend that we meet in the Barrowboy and Banker (right near the actual London Bridge that goes across the water on the South side) at 6:30ish and head off to Shunt at about 8, so we can all go together and maybe angle for an entry discount.
It's the pub we went to yesterday.
It's also the pub of the previous Beery Bear Cub, for anyone who went to that.

Also, I'm in London on Monday and really rather hopeful that someone night fancy a drink, whether in the evening or for lunch. Except for Grim..., Craster, Curiosity, Dudley, Spinglo Sponglo and JBR-from-WoS. I've already 'done' you lot, I want someone else. Romanista?

Impressively, that's what I meant to say, but I typed 'yesterday'.
What the fuck?

No fucker ever chooses me. I feel like I'm back at school, hopefully tapping myself on my chest, mouthing 'me, me' as the cool team captains choose their sides for football.
Out of boredom and curiousity, I've just been checking how cheap a person can get from Manchester to London. Seems the cheapest is about £13 each way if you book enough in advance. Fun. I could get a 'First Open Single' for the same journey for £180. Tempting.

And you might end up on the same train as me.

Clearly, days without the Beardy Beer Club are so empty, hollow and pointless they don't even count as real days at all.

Also, I will try to be there. I may well have a beard.
London on a Thursday - no thanks, but that reminds me of the Beardy Beer Club (Midlands & Northern Section) drinks session I need to organise soon.

Yeah, you really brought the farm there ;)

I'm wondering, since there might be a few of us who have travelled down for it - anyone fancy staying in London on the Friday for a bit of a Wander Around? Book it as a holiday, have a wander, hair of the dog, bite to eat, bit of shopping, rub Comical Gnomes' tummy, come home again? IN ADDITION to the BBC on Thursday at Slam or Sledge or whatever.

Worth £180 just for that then, surely. You do have giant boobs and promiscuous tendencies, right?
I probably can't make this.

But, Richard Herring has been twice.

No, that's me. Look, here's a nice visual representation of what you're gonna look like after I 'satisfy' my urges.

This sounds so utterly fabulous that I must come along. And I mean it this time. I'll even warm up the stubble!

You're on to a winner there, CUS!
I can't wait for him to warm up my stubble :D
Erm... my timing of that post evidently could've been better.

Eeek!
Erk.... that would be ridiculously easy for me to get to after work.

But I'm most likely taking that week off work. And another friend has invited me to see his band at a bar in Leicester Square that evening already. And I sold my iPhone, so wouldn't fit in.....

I can grow an OK beard though, even if a patch of it does start to turn a bit gingery.
Should be able to.
You are all very scary.

You're only just working this out now?
I am at the opposite end of the country.

I will drink some alcohol at the same time though, and be there in spirit.
In vaguely related news, I managed to not shave for nearly a week last week, which while it may not sound impressive, had me definitely looking a bit Sly-Stallone-Rocky-4-montage. I reckon if I gave it a month I could easily pass as a long-time member of any beardy religion.

It's just beard-envy.
Can't make it. Sorry.
I would have liked to attend this (in spite of how scary you all are) due to posession of a beard and fondness for beer. However, my trip to London is a couple of days earlier for the Ministry gig and I'm stuck with exams after that.
Actually, I've mentioned this before but Bishops Castle Real Ale Festival is on July 11-12 this year. Bishops Castle is a tiny place ages from anywhere with 5 pubs, two of which brew their own beer. You camp in a nearby field for 4 quid per night and sup ale with your friends for a couple of days in one of the most peaceful, idyllic place you could hope for.

Last years sheninigans
Any more for any more?

:)
So, barrowboy at 6:30?

Yes, though I'll be there early as my office is only a ten minutes stroll across the bridge from said drinking establishment.
Make it 6 then, Curio?
Well, y'all can turn up at half six. I'll just be in there from half five. I enjoy sitting in pubs on my own and reading, so worry thee not about getting there before half six if that suits you better.
Darn , I forgot about this and shaved. Can I wear one of those false beards?
Yes. But it has to be green.

So do I, but it's amazing how many people think that this is some sort of major character flaw or a sign of alcoholism.
I'll struggle to do better than 6:30-7 anyway. So long as you're all there when I get there she'll be right(tm)

Or that you're desperately lonely and would welcome condescending conversation from any drunken loon who happens to be nearby. I have a book, and am currently reading it. What makes people think I'd want to talk about it with some stranger who has no idea what it is?

:this:

"What are you reading?"
"A book. Fuck off."
I'm currently reading the Derren Brown book, so I'll just give them the evil eye, or something.
I have a friend from the Americas here this week, so will be with them. But there is a chance they'll be "out and about" and if that is the case (and I can drag myself from work) I'll pop along for a pint.
Yay!
