I want to set up an online storage area, for all our docs, so I don't have to mail them out.

Google docs is pretty great.
There's also a similar free office suit (it's basically Microsoft Office lite) with Microsoft e-mails (i.e. Outlook), but it's less probable your colleagues having this kind of e-mails compared to Gmail.
