An online multiplayer VR thing called Rec Room, that's been out on the Vive for a while now, has just been released for free on the PS4:

Not really my type of thing because, y'know, other people, but it seems to have been very well received and apparently the paintball is especially good fun. You can create private instances of each of the activities so if there are enough Beex VR folks you wouldn't even need to deal with randos. I'm kind of intrigued by the 'quests' which are "challenging co-op adventures where up to four players must defeat a series of monsters, puzzles, and other challenges as a team".
Cross-platform? Not that it matters. I'll spend £40 on it and then be roundly ignored

Yeah, apparently. And free on Steam so, y'know...
Looks pretty sweet. They definitely seem to be pushing the PSVR, loads of stuff coming out.

I didn't think it was necessarily doing all that well as a platform but a mate of mine in work has been trying to buy one for the last couple of days and they're selling out everywhere constantly. I realise there's been a price drop and Christmas is approaching but that's still surprising me.

From my point of view I always enjoy my time spent with it but I've got to admit that it's a bit of a thought to strap the headset on instead of just picking up a controller. This is almost entirely because to wear the thing I need to keep my contact lenses in rather than, as I prefer to do, take them out and wear my glasses in the evening when I'm at home. I don't notice it so much when I'm actually playing games but an evening in VR ends with my eyes being kind of irritated which puts me off playing VR stuff more than one day in a row.
I use my PSVR with glasses. It's fine.

I admit I haven't tried it but I'd be too worried to in case I scratched the headset lenses, especially with the jam jar bottoms I laughably call my specs.

ME-FEEX

Did you ever get Star Trek to work, by the way?

Fair point. My glasses are quite svelte.
Well, I guess we need a picture of Bamba in his specs now.

I got it to work fine, yeah. Played with Marlon Rando and his mates. Was fun but would be better with a Grim…ordering me around
Was Marlon on a PS4, though?

No idea. I pressed quick play.

It's not pretty.
Distraction cat deployed.

The picture really only exists to demonstrate to doubters that my otherwise hilariously grumpy asshole of a cat is capable of affection.
Those are not huge gegs. How do they compare to the good doctor's?

They don't look to bad from that angle but they're really thick, hence my VR worries. I mean my eyesight is fucking terrible (-7.5 If that means anything to anyone) but the real issue here is that I didn't pay for thinned lenses because I'm only ever wearing them in the house so they're THICC.
While browsing the Steam store I noticed an announcement of an update to "I Expect You To Die" which adds a new level; something that's also been rolled out to PSVR:

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/09 ... new-level/

It's pretty old news actually but I never noticed at the time somehow.
Picked up Farpoint with the gun for this fairly cheap from Game. It's great, the effect in the game is marvellous and it's just a really nicely designed thing. I hope lots more stuff comes along that makes use of this accessory.
You set of bastards plus another WhatsApp set of bastards have made me, yes made me, buy PSVR on Black Friday.
VR master race! Down with dirty TV peasants.
I rattled through the new IEYTD level last night and it was awesome. Arguably slightly easier than the previous levels but some really nice touches.

Cras, Grim... and I thought we'd calm down from murdering by having a look at this. We put it on about 1am. I'm typing this at 3am. It's charming as fuck. I thought it would be really naff like PS Home (remember that?) but it's actually really cool, packed with neat touches, and has a surprising amount to do (we tried three of seven or eight activities, and each of those has some options and sub modes.)

We did indeed figure out private games, BTW.

Is it all multi player stuff or is there anything to do on your own? I think I saw pinball mentioned somewhere.
Nothing we saw would work solo, but as I say, there's a lot we didn't see. However... The Steam reviews all say the community is lovely and everyone I (briefly) interacted with seemed nice. The first time I appeared in a public lobby, people were waving to me and high-fiving me! I'd be open to trying it with randos.

Also it has cross platform play so if we can get it working you can join in with us.

I imagine it'll be pretty easy to get PlayStation to PlayStation functionality working. ;)
Oh, yes! I've lost track of which beexers have which VR platforms.

I have a selection of Victorian stereograms.
I have a Virtual Boy. I don't see why I'd need anything else to be honest?

Is your name Geppetto?

We, however, were not.
Played a lot of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes last night, which was a lot of fun, but also the Rogue One VR mission for Battlefront, which was the best thing ever. Pew Pew.

If I never hear that phrase ever again for as long as I live then I'll never want to murder that people that say it; and I feel like that's good for everyone.
I accept my fate.
I wish I were wearing my Pew Pew t-shirt today.

I didn't get as much chance to mess around this as I hoped but it compares very favourably to the Gear VR. The lead is annoying and with two Jack Russels in the house the chances of cable disaster are high but that's the only downside vs the GearVR that I can think of.

The biggest difference I am finding is a much greater sense of immersion, the wireless controller appearing in front of me and small touches like moving my head forwards bringing things closer to me. Some time on Arkham VR was pretty astonishing but now I really want to try it with Move controllers. One for Santa methinks.
I've heard the spacedicks are pretty thin on the ground right now. Might have to go 2nd hand

Playing Arkham VR without the Move controllers is madness, don't do it.

Yet again you set of tossers force me to spend money. I am £69.99 further down now.

Definitely all your fault and not mine. Definitely.
Doom VFR is this week. Instabuy for me unless the reviews are somehow bad.
Coming soon to a Tabloid Rag near you:

"Doom VFR gave me PTSD"
Only £12 atm at Amazon if you have Prime and pre-order. Just grabbed it anyway.
Spent all my virtual winnings on this gorgeous AC Cobra and took it for a spin in VR. Excuse the crappy, slow driving but this was my first go with this car on this track and also I was using the clutch and H pattern shifter which I'm really not used to in a game so I was fluffing gear changes all over the place.

But wow, what an experience.
Go! GO! Why aren't you going? Oh, there we go.
That's Donnington, right?
