The Witcher 3
Reply
Just bought it. Getting lots of good reviews so took the plunge as there's naff all out there to tickle my pickle. I'm still a lad(y) of leisure so hopefully this will fill my gaming void. First Witcher game for me so I've nowt to compare it to.

I'll let you know what it's like once I've played some.
I tried both the Witcher and the second one (of it) and found both left me cold and/or annoyed.
Very thick cellophane wrapper.

is there a game?
Is this the follow up to the Dr Dre, Jay-Z and Rakim track?
I wasn't bothered about the first two but this new one has piqued my interest and I'll probably pick it up at some point down the line. Certainly the second one I was put off with the chat about how hard the combat system was to pick up and how shitty the tutorial stuff was but apparently that's all been smoothed out in the new one.
Frankly doesn't sound anywhere near as good as Bayonetta 2. You should get and play that insyead.

~£200 is a bit steep for a single game.
Only finished the tutorial / intro so far. Feels odd after the solidness of Bloodbourne... can't put my finger on it though. Not the prettiest game of this gen I've seen but I've hardly scratched the surface yet so maybe I'm being fussy. You have a horse.

Somehow I don't think that's the biggest problem

*Insert picture of nintendo running off with Z's stars here*
I thought both 1 & 2 were incredible. It's such and interesting and gritty low-fantasy setting that's quite a depart from the general insipid american stuff.
I got this for free with my GTX970 (along with Batman Arkham Knight which I believe isn't even released yet).

Steam has it up for £49.99!

A guy at work has it on his XBoner and is loving it long time ten dollar.

I will perhaps take a look when I'm done with GTAV.
I tried Witcher 2. It was alright.
I caved and now own this. Hype!
Played more. Liking it more.

Very nice geese.
'kin gutted. Waited ages for this and it's a terribly coded resource hogging POS.

/delete.

Bloody glad I only paid £20 for it.
Save your RC car money and get a PS4 ;)

Found the exact opposite, really impressed with how well it performs on my system compared to other recent stuff.
The more I've played the deeper the hooks have sank.
I'm going to get this downloaded and installed over the long weekend. Can't say I'm much fired up to try it with GTAV on the go but since I got it for free and it's sat there in my GOG account I may as well have a look I suppose.

It's already had a couple of patches on PC and apparently there's another one incoming to boost the graphics and make customising the settings easier.
Unfortunately it seems to be broken on the 700 series Kepler cards, with the GTX 960 out pacing the 780.

That would be why then. Oh well, time to play the waiting game.
Have you got the 352.86 drivers installed? They were released just for Witcher 3.

I've got the game installed and patched now, so I launched it and got as far as the title screen, but TBH the opening cinematic was such turgid waffle that I didn't feel inclined to venture into the game itself :D

I'll motivate myself to do it at some point though. Maybe when I'm a bit drunk. Or have finished GTAV. The guy at work who's playing it has been regaling me with tales of what he's been up to and whilst he does really like the game he says it's very much an old-school RPG.

I'm still a bit bemused as to why I got it for free. I mean, I was already buying the cheapest GTX970 in existence, and on top of that it was reduced by £20 on a daily deal - so it wasn't exactly a tough sell. And yet I've got Witcher 3 which is currently £49.99 on Steam or $59.99 on GOG, and Batman Arkham Knight (£34.99 on preorder). So that's £85 worth of games on a £240 graphics card, most bizarre.
The bird in the opening scene looks like a Realdoll (tm)

Apparently the new Nvidia driver released today fixes this, or at least improves it substantially.

lol PC gaming

Yeah I heard about it a few days back. It's not just The Witcher apparently it's a large amount of games.

Will install it later.
Last week dabs were doing the Gtx970 with witcher, batman and gta! Bit of a bargain comparatively speaking.

I plumped for the 980 cos I'm naughty but the other half doesn't know the price. Erm, about 100 quid I think I told her.

Anyway, I'm only using an old 930 i7 at stock and gta runs brilliantly. I'm so glad I didn't bother upgrading rest of the pc as I planned. Might need to in the future for 4k but that can wait.

I installed witcher 3 at the weekend but tbh I really don't think I'll like it at all. I'm enjoying Gta way too much right now so it might be something to get into when the nights draw closer.

May I suggest...

It's basically a 980x hex core. Loads of people on OCUK have been buying these, and I've seen clocks as high as 4.7ghz. Should be an easy 4ghz.

Edit. As for 4k? well I've done plenty of testing there and the CPU seems to get lost, once you go to that sort of resolution. For example I had a 8 core 2ghz Ivybridge Xeon that I can't overclock, VS a 3970x hex core at 4.7ghz and the FPS were identical. I think once you reach that sort of resolution the CPU just gets lost and it's all about GPU grunt.
I got this with my PS4. It seems fun so far, but all I have done is ride around a bit, do some swimming for underwater loot, and slash some people with my sword.
Does it have chariots?
Can you go prone?
Apparently it's got shagging and boobs in it, according to the update I got from my chum at work today.

I then Googled the lass involved and she was a bit of alright. (Albeit, y'know, not real.)
Really enjoying this now. Was finding it tough following the main story missions so I've gone off the beaten track and gone exploring.

There's been some lovely scenery, especially when lit by sunrise / sunset.
Wasn't really interested in Witcher 3, but this kind of chatter has piqued my interest.

I got this free with my GTX970 graphics card in May of last year, and am still yet to get out of the starting room (where EVERY SINGLE PLAYER will spend a bit of time trying to see if it's possible to see some (pretend) woman nipples).*

I have diligently patched it over the months, currently at 1.12 - I really should get out of the starting room at some point.

* It isn't.
After a mere year of having this sat on my hard drive and dutifully patching it some twelve times or so, I have now actually started to play this game - and it's really good!

It's like a Bethesda action RPG style game, but not crap and uninvolving in the way that I seem to find all Bethesda RPG games.

It also has a modern graphics engine so it looks absolutely sublime, as opposed to a slightly tarted up XBox 360 game.

Also, boobs. And bums.

Oh yes and it has a card game in it, a bit like Hearthstone, as an entire game within the game. Which may or may not be a plus for you but apparently keeps some people playing the game long after they've actually finished the game, if that makes sense.

I've seen Witcher 3 in Steam sales recently for around the £25 mark, so maybe similar discounts are now available for it on console as well.

I'm only a few hours in so wouldn't like to offer any definitive verdict, but unlike with Bethesda games where the 'few hours in' mark is generally where I start to get bored and stop playing, I'm really looking forward to each session with Witcher 3. (Which has to be when Hearthly Jnr is upstairs due to all the violence and swearing and shagging and stuff.)

Also I'm naturally well disposed towards it as I got it for free with my graphics card.

Good stuff and well worth a look if the genre is something that appeals to you, although it is very much a genre piece so if all you like is Call of Duty you probably won't like this.
This had me up until 1:30am last night, and even then I only stopped 'cause I was really tired having been up since 6am and had to be up at a reasonable hour this morning.

Every time I got somewhere and did what I was there to do, there'd be another intriguing question mark on the map to go and investigate.

The combat is really juicy and satisfying too, in a way I've never felt with the Bethesda action RPGs (which always seemed very floaty and vague, particularly the melee), plus there are some great finishers that your character pulls off automatically when appropriate.

Also, the women all seem to have very nice bottoms.
I really like this so far. You appear to be a monster hunting man stalking your ex and play a collectable card game on the way. Only in the first village, but it is pretty fun to run about and do odd jobs. Comvat flows well, and the horse autopots if you want. Stray off the path, though, and BLAMMI! Monster time! The voice acting is hilarious, as a bonus.
Top game. Didn't bother with any of the DLC though which is supposed to add a HUGE chunk.

Gwent is probably one of the best in game games I've played.

Soon to be playable in it's own right:

This is the "Roach" card, which I love:

Love the Witcher? Wish you could Witch? Be more Witcherer? Fancy some Witchering? Why not go to Witcher School!?!

This got sent to me as a "look at these insane Polish people!!LOL!!", however, turns out some of my insane Polish friends help run it ( one of them crops up for about a second in the background of a sword fighting section ).
If i get disease immunity i'm in in. Even at the cost of sterility.

And does this schools teach how to bang like geralt? Because I saw nothing of the sort in the video.
When does this get good?

I've only played a couple of hours and perhaps am getting pulled out of the world by the fairly relentless stream of hand-holding tutorial bits on menu/crafting screens (WTF am I meant to be crafting at this point?!), but it's not really grabbed me yet.

I've done a bunch of side quests and I've just arrived at the Nieefdedgdfgsdxjkpghpkmdgdf guards in the north to ask them about that lassy I'm chasing and wandered into a gassy bog to find information about a griffin. Some Drowners attacked me and I died then I turned it off.

I'm only able to play 30 minutes at a time at the moment, I don't know if that's not helping. Or, hopefully, it's a shit opening few hours then gets really good after that.
I think I got to about the same place as you before I gave up.

I do intend to give it another shot at some point, but it just didn't grab me at all.
I never finished it, I totally maxed out the starting area and then travelled to the next main game area, looked at the sheer size of it and decided I couldn't be arsed, then played Hearthstone instead.

Replace Witcher 3 with 'any other game' and this happens a lot.

Also, I decided Geralt is a bit of a cock and I didn't much like him. And I couldn't shag the nice herbalist woman in the first area which annoyed me, as she had a fantastic bottom and I wanted to use her pertly cheeks as a pillow.
I still haven't managed to complete the tutorial on the witcher 2...

So I still haven't bought the witcher 3
