You can. Weathershield is water based, as are many exterior rated paints for woodwork.

How does that work then? How do they stop being water soluble?

It's an acrylic medium. Water based but dries like a plastic.

The water evaporates leaving the paint.

See also, waterbased screen printing ink.

As they are 'scrapeable' here are some other words of wisdom from elsewhere...

*wibble effect*

1- Scrape them off with plastic credit card.
2- If there are any tiny ones stuck that you can't get, use a clay bar. These are designed for removing little dots of "stuff" without harming the underlying finish like other abrasives would.
3- Have the car polished and waxed afterwords.

*wibble effect*

I think water-based/solvent-based, etc just refers to the constituent part of the paint that evaporated off to leave it sealed and dry. You can get water-based glosses and acrylics and they won’t just wash off with water when they are dry as they essentially dry to a plastic.

ALTHOUGH that water based colour coat is then overlayed with a 2K laquer which is just as toxic as the old 2K paint.

That's counteracted by flicking speckles of waterbased white masonry paint.

We have Peugeot Partner vans at work that we got in spring 2016. When we first got them, brand spanking new, some of them suffered from an internal beeping noise when we started them up and we couldn't work out why.

We contacted Peugeot who said, 'Oh, you can fix that by pressing and holding both buttons on the instrument panel when turning on the ignition and you'll see a number on the panel count down from 10 to zero. When you switch off and on again, the beep will have stopped.'

We tried that, it didn't work. We called them again. They suggested another couple of things, neither of which worked, and then eventually, after a couple of engine stats/stops and intervals before restarting, the beep went away. We worked out that if we ran the engine for five mins, then stopped it and left it for about 15/20 mins before restarting, the beeping would have stopped. Not an ideal solution, but it worked.

The problem reappears randomly from time to time, with engineers calling the fleet support guy for help, and him advising them of the start/stop/wait solution.

As we're about to move some guys from Nissan NV200s that are about to go off lease, I was preparing a handy guide to useful stuff to know and I thought I'd see if Google would find an answer. I ended up on a Berlingo forum where lots of people had complained about this problem for ages, and Citroen, like Peugeot, couldn't provide a solution. Then some bright spark had discovered that it was the main CPU not recognising the code sent from the radio on start-up, hence the irritating sound. "If you press and hold the menu button on the touch screen the radio will reboot and send its identity code again. The system should accept the code and stop bleeping."

Wouldn't you think the manufacturers would know that?

You would think so, but you'd also assume that such a flaw would have been spotted and sorted long before they were delivered to customers.

Do factory standard car radios still get nicked?

The ones built in to basic and mid spec cars are either a bit shit (the one in my focus is gash) or so tied into the dash or other car operating stuff, could they really be ripped out and put into another car (or, in the case of shitty head units like mine, would anyone even want to?)

Yes, if you’ve bought the upgraded sat nav. The bigger screen stereos in VAG cars are a huge target.

Well, there we go, didn't know that.

I can see how a bigger screen for your VAG would be desireable

Aren't they all coded to the cars and stuff? Surely you can't just rip a factory fit head unit out of a car and put it in another one these days?

I remember my 2006 C-Max had the battery disconnected and the stereo stopped working until a Ford dealer did 'something' to it, and that was just the basic pogger-spec CD head unit. (Which I replaced with an aftermarket one.)

Looking at the screen in my Leon you'd have to destroy the dash to get it out, and even then it's just a touchscreen, where are all the rest of the gubbins?

Word on te street is there's a super duper chip in there that does stuff and has value. My friend got his satnav nicked from his vw at Apperley bridge station.

I'm flummoxed. Jag won't make the xf I want and Merc made the newer AWD e63 a value-retainer. Based on the Kia Stinger GT saloon price I won't be able to afford the estate version if that happens(!).

I can't even get a pickup, because they're all bloody dervs (except the Jeep Cherokee SRT, which I am.categorically not allowed :'()

Apparently I'm stuck with this dying-on-its-tyres beemer, so I should probably get on with fixing the injectors and transmission.

Assuming your Leon is the same as my Octavia, it's a screen in the dash with most of the electronics in the glovebox. On anything MQB based there's "Component Protection" so it won't talk to the ECUs without being coded by VAG but I think that's not entirely fool proof.

For the previous generation cars, any security is trivially easy to bypass, which is why eBay has plenty of Skoda Columbus head units for sale.

Happy to hear it's not just me.

Doug demuro did a review on YouTube and it doesn't sound the best but y'know, affordable pretty automatic petrol 365hp AWD estate.

Now I'm worried I'm making the AWD bit up. Arse.
