The correct answer is "you don't need an MPV for two kids, Jesus fucking Christ take a fucking look at yourself".

However, if you're determined, then the Picasso is the best one. If you need something bigger, get a Renault Grand Scenic.

Yeti Fop is the name of my hipster 3 piece playing eclectic tunes on a tub bass, melodia and a theremin

It's not just for 2 kids, we have family coming over next year more regularly to help out and we are also having friends take our older boy on weekend days for which we have to, in turn, take their kid.

So want something I can get them all into for trips out etc

We have a Nissan Note now. It’s like a bloody Tardis in the back and the boot. Have a sit in one of them or a Quashquai?

There aren't really any bad cars these days, just choose one you like the look of, or the colour, or the infotainment system.

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style ... 20276.html

I would vouch for the S-Max though, chap at work has one and absolutely swears by it, and it's a really nice car to be in. Just make sure you get one of the higher spec levels. (Also there's a 2 litre turbo petrol engined one with 240bhp, which has a reasonable lick of speed.)

If you really need >4 seats I’d suggest the 7 seat xtrail or qashqai. The back seats are small but don’t compromise the car to fuck when you’re not using them.

An old forester or disco for cheaper probably worthwhile next time we can get out.

They're the prettiest Discoverys by far, but that's a lot of money for a V8. It'd have to be a really good example.

Good luck! Was sure you'd had it MOT'd recently?

The cold weather has eliminated my limp mode! Temp gauge isn't working right (hardly moving at all after an hour on the road) so I'm beginning to think the thermostat might have something to do with the TDi's shenanigans.

That was Exciting Rover (£140, if memory serves). Forester needs a headlamp bulb and transmission fluid in rear diff, and possibly plugs and filters. We'll see....

Mines in Jan, I know I need two rear tyres (going on tomorrow) and think I'll have to get the front top suspension bushings done too.

Yeah, ho hum.

There’s a weird rattle when you come off the throttle now. In gear and out. I shall check oil.

If I'm going to get that mileage I may as well buy a Grand Cherokee SRT.

Helen doesn't see the need for a 6.4l Hemi but I just see it as leaving since headroom.

They handle like a go-kart, brilliant cars. The early new Minis anyway - not sure what the new ones are like as they seem massive in comparison.

A big change from the Octavia though. Big car not needed anymore? If I had the cash and hadn't just bought a new exhaust for my Merc I'd be very tempted.

Yep, it’s pretty much the opposite to the Octavia which is an excellent all round practical family car with a decent turn of pace and low running costs. My commute is now three miles each way so I don’t need a diesel, and Helen’s son will be 18 soon and won’t come on any more family holidays so there’s no need for lots of luggage space. If I do need to cart something large around I can borrow my dad’s yeti.

Modern cars are such arseholes.

Was driving in over the mountain this morning and it was foggy, so I put my rear foglight on.

A few seconds later the car starts bonging at me and at first I didn't connect the two events and started wondering what was on fire, but as I looked at the display in the instrument cluster it was displaying 'TURN OFF REAR FOG LIGHT!'

So I'm like, who the fuck made you boss? Dickface.

Turns out the car didn't think it was foggy enough to have the rear fog light on, there must be some kind of sensor for it, as when the fog got denser it stopped nagging me, and then when it got a bit thinner, it started nagging me again.

The thing is, the mountain road isn't a normal road, people drive on that road at crazy speeds in the fog because it's (a) Derestricted and (b) Many people absolutely know it like the back of their hand.

As such, they can be travelling at speeds that aren't really a good match for the conditions and visibility, hence I'll turn my rear fog light on in moderate fog, just so there's more visibility of my arse on the road in case someone's tanking up behind me at 80mph and I'm stuck behind someone doing 28mph, (which has happened).

And yes, as soon as I see a car in my rear view mirror, I turn the rear fog light off.

Fucking car telling me when I should and shouldn't turn my own fucking fog light on. Twat.

Just give us driverless cars and be done with it. Wankers.

Your rear fog light can dazzle other road users if it's not sufficiently foggy though, I've seen it way too often. For 99% of use cases that alert is probably a good thing.

Yesterday was a right pea souper around me though. Too many people in silver cars driving around with no lights on at all. It was pretty scary.

I think that a lot of people don’t know how to turn their rear fog light on, in the same way that a surprising number of people don’t know how to turn their rear wiper OFF. You see them, on lovely dry and sunny summer days, with their wiper intermittently scraping across the rear window. I like to look at what dim wazzock is driving these vehicles.

And in the last couple of days, following the pretty thick fog we had, a number of people are driving with their main beam on because they’ve forgotten they switched it on and they can’t work out what that blue indicator on their dash is telling them.

What are your favourite songs about cars?

Until recently, ‘MGB-GT’ by Richard Thompson was my fave, but ‘Kiss of death’ by Split Lip Rayfield has now usurped it.
