I've mentioned before how the Marvel films I prefer are the ones that aren't taking part in the seemingly endless arms race to up the stakes.
You should totally pitch Marvel your 'massive team of powerful superheroes get together to unblock a sink' screen-play; the might go for it.
i'd buy that for a dollar
Seriously though, the problem with this shit (and it's not just Marvel, but they're the worst for it simply due to the sheer number of movies in the MCU at this point) is that it's been done so many times before and by now, it's just so fucking predictable and boring.
Here's a list of what the plot says will happen if the bad guys win in each of the MCU movies:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Iron Man - the bad guy just wants to get Stark out of the way so he can carry on making money selling weapons
The Incredible Hulk - dunno, not seen this one
Iron Man 2 - just a revenge story really
Thor - another revenge story
Captain America: The First Avenger - the Red Skull dude will launch Tesseract-powered WMDs and kill millions of people
Marvel's The Avengers - Earth will be lost to the Chitauri/Thanos, and presumably humans either wiped out or subjugated
Iron Man 3 - another revenge story
Thor: The Dark World - some sort of cataclysmic world-ending event
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - millions killed by Hydra
Guardians of the Galaxy - the bad guy will use the infinity stone to destroy the galaxy
Avengers: Age of Ultron - humanity is annihilated
Ant-Man - shrinking suits to be sold to Hydra, which will presumably end up being used to kill millions but isn't stated
Captain America: Civil War - a revenge story
Doctor Strange - Earth will be engulfed by the Dark Dimension
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - The galaxy (universe?) will be completely remolded as per Ego's own world
Spider-Man: Homecoming - some guys will continue to sell stolen alien technology
Thor: Ragnarok - Hela will rule over all 9 realms and spread death and destruction wherever she goes
I've bolded the ones that I feel Infinity War is just going to be a rehash of.
It's just nothing new. The marketing is all "it's all been building up to this" but actually it's more "you've basically already seen this at least three times before, but this time there's more heroes!"
Anyway, like I say, I'll still go and see it because I'm sure it'll be a decent blockbuster action film. In fact, if anything my moaning is a criticism of the earlier films rather than this one, it's just like the MCU has a severe form of premature ejaculation.
//edit: If I was to do a similar list for the DCEU, it would be entirely bolded
