I've seen up to the end of S6 and it's still pretty good. Has it taken a nosedive since then?

Don't forget that Season 7 has THE CHANGING SPOON in it.

Once you've seen that, it can never be unseen.

I’ve just googled the changing spoon. I thought it was going to be some hammy monster nonsense, but it was so much more awful than that.

I was all over that at the time.

viewtopic.php?p=930598#p930598

In truth TWD was downhill from Season 2 onwards (but Season 1 was magnificent, and having lost both Darabont and half their budget, the only way was down really), I'd say it maintained reasonable quality up to Season 4, was getting shaky in 5 and IIRC I was openly critical of it from 6 onward.

7 was a total bombsite and I gave up mid-season.

I haven't seen any of it yet and was going to wait till it was all done and dusted and then give it a go. I don't think I'll bother now.

Yes. Just watch the first.

Reminds me, speaking of quitting whilst ahead, not making sequels to The Matrix was a great idea.

We watched the first series and I thought it was rubbish. I can’t even imagine what it must have descended into for that to be the pinnicle.

We got as far as his child being in mortal danger for about three episodes running after being mistaken for a deer and shot in the face, and decided that actually, no thanks.

Basically Mimi - this;

http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/arts ... 1023115767

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
THE new season of The Walking Dead involves a moment of hope followed by yet another gruelling journey, it has been revealed.

A production source revealed that the new series’ storyline will involve Sheriff Rick Grimes and his friends finding a temporary haven – perhaps a church, school or other large municipal building – then having to leave when it is overrun either by zombies, psychopaths, or both.

The source said: “Last time we began with the characters safe, but then losing their place of safety. This time around they’re in great danger. Will they manage to find somewhere safe?

“Spoiler alert – Rick’s going to be in a mood with everyone, behave in an over-earnest way and generally suck all the fun out of things.”

The source added: “You will wonder why you continue to watch this relentless torrent of the most gruelling misery imaginable, then concede that you’d already spent weeks of your life on it so it’s too late to stop now.”

Didn't the writer of the comics say it'll basically go on forever like a soap opera?

That's not so much the problem as the HUMONGOUS dip in writing / atmosphere / tension / common sense among characters / etc

My advice is to stop watching then. It's a massive cash cow and AMC won't stop making it until the ratings fall through the floor. Everyone in here seems to be watching it and hating it.

I saw a google search result that said piracy rates of TWD had dropped massively - it's so shit people can't even be bothered to watch it for free.

I have now put myself through the latest episode.

I agree with everything what Zardoz said.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
It's amazing how zombie headshots can be taken with a casual air of indifference but you try firing a SHITLOAD OF BULLETS AT 5 HUMANS WHO WEREN'T EXPECTING IT and you won't hit anything. Not a fucking thing.

Then in a post apocalpytic time of war when ammo is pretty fucking scarce (as they showed in the last series) why not spend a vast amount of that ammo shooting a load of tiny windows for a good 5 minutes just, er because?

The time jumping doesn't work at all.

Someone ALWAYS gets left behind. ALWAYS.

The fact that I am still watching it is a prime example of the sunk cost fallacy.

It was clear in the first series that all of the jeopardy was reliant on the characters being idiots. I stupidly stuck with it as a form of masochism until about halfway through S3 and gave up then as I’d seen enough conclusive proof that the characters were still hand bitingly stupid and the plot had all the variety of scooby doo.

My wife loves this show, hates any other sci-fi\horror shows though

I'm not that bothered with it, but still, don't mind watching it, although it's got a bit dull in places now.

Never picked up on the spoon, but found it a bit stupid that in a zombie apocalypse it was fine to have a guy with a pet tiger!

Not told her its back on yet will wait until I have a few episodes of this season on the NAS first

That's a bit on the harsh side for me.

Season 1 was fantastic and it was indeed straight downhill from Season 2 onward, but then again AMC had told them to make twice as many episodes for half the cash, and Darabont fucked off as a result.

As such from Season 2 forward we got more chatting, less zombies, more indoor scenes, anything that was cheaper than what they were doing in Season 1, basically.

That said I think Seasons 2-4 maintained strong narrative arcs, decent characters, strong scripts (in the main) and remained very watchable. I don't think it helped that they routinely killed off all the best characters, something that was to continue in later seasons as well. (Also, David Morrissey deserves considerable kudos as well, for bringing some real heft to The Governor character.)

My history with the show is all documented in this thread but from memory I had some early grumblings in Seasons 3-4, then more so in 5, and far more so in 6 when most weeks it was just a case of listing all the things that were shit about it. Season 7 was its last chance and it blew it in fine style.

And we never did find out what happens to zombies in winter.

I wouldn't say the show was ever fantastic. The Wire, Mad Men, Deadwood, Halt and Catch Fire were fantastic shows, this was just entertaining as if it was a b-movie. The first 4 seasons or such were enjoyable, at least while The Governor was alive, because even if he was a psychopath he was more believable and scary than everything that came after (specially Negan which is just annoying).

When a show like this without any sort of endgame, has 16 episodes per season you know right on that nothing will happen in most of the time. Even if nothing happened it could have at least good writing and dialogues, but it doesn't. Last season was both dull and stupid. As was season 6. The characters were never really likeable, but in the last season i was just waiting for all of them to just be eaten by zombies. Not walkers, biters, crawlers or any other stupid name the characters call them.

Disagree about season 6, well, the first half anyway. The first half was decent as it had an overarching plot that was about actual zombies for a change. There’s a horde of zombies and they want to push them away from the settlement, for those don’t remember. And the midseason finale was great too. Remember that whiny kid (no, not Carl) saying “mum, mum, mum” as it cut to to the credits. It was very satisfying to see him get eaten. Less so his mum (who was ultra hot) (In AHS) who also gets her arm lopped off.

It was a very satisfying half season. Then the saviours popped up and it went rapidly downhill.

Was that the doctor's wife? If so, you're right. She was hot and it was a shame she got eaten.

Do you mean Morales? I am vaguely keeping up with this via stuff Google Now keeps lobbing at me. They put Morales back in for a couple of episodes, he was in Season 1 until Rick and him went their separate ways.

If that's who you mean.

Just read the headlines "Pointless stunt" and though "Really, worse than when X or Y or Z?". Oh, Walking Dead, you never change.

And sorry for being here so often, but i still want to make fun of the sorry souls that still watch this.

There’s some EA Star Wars style backlash happening with TWD too.

It seems the directors have been watching the Expendibles with the amount of bullets uselessly pissed away over the last 4 episodes.

People are annoyed at:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
* the shoot out between Carol and the Saviours.

*Rick’s chase scene. Rick boarding the jeep was terrible but he should have died much earlier when this guy is shooting a .50 cal in his mush from 10 yards.
