Wii-U production to end shortly.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016- ... -this-week

Some interesting comments saying that there's no sign of it being sold off cheaply through retail channels, and no real expectation of it becoming a cheap console to pick up down the line either (although that's just speculation of course).

I really would recommend a Wii-U just for the relatively small number of truly spectacular games it has available for it, even if it requires a fairly sizeable cash investment.

Let's be honest here... The Wii-U was a disaster.

It's probably not a good sign that the only reason I want a Wii-U is to play Smash Bros (although I'll probably still end up preferring the Gamecube version anyway)

Commercially yes, and third-party support was almost non-existent. But worth the price of entry for the following games alone:

Super Mario 3D World
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Bayonetta 2
Mario Kart 8
Super Mario Maker
Pikmin 3
New Super Mario Bros. U
Splatoon
LEGO City Undercover
The Wonderful 101

And Nintendo Land at a pinch - was a good showcase for the game pad's potential.

I'd add Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze which is one of the very few games I've bothered to take to 100% completion, and was kind of bereft when there was nothing left to do. One of the very finest platformers I've ever played.

Also, Rayman Legends, which is sublime and makes good use of the gamepad's screen.

I'd forgotten about Donkey Kong, and Rayman Legends is available on other platforms (also why I didn't mention ZombiU).

Legends does make use of the gamepad's screen though, so there are unique Wii-U elements.

DKTF is off the scale amazing, just thinking about it makes me go all gooey remembering what a fucking magnificent gaming experience it was.

I've owned a Wii U since launch day, and consider it a colossal disappointment, well, apart from Super Mario 3D World I guess.

The whole 'tablet' (sic) controller concept just sunk it. If they hadn't hobbled the console with a laggy, heavy, cumbersome gimmick controller that only works a few meters away from the console, then they could've released something competitively powerful.

I can't be mad at my decision to buy a WiiU. Frankly, Xenoblade Chronicles X is worth the price of the console alone. It's an amazing, colossal, batshit-mad game that will never be released anywhere ever. If you've never played it, well done, you're an idiot.

After that, Super Mario 3D World and Bayonetta 2 are both terrific.

And MH3U was worth every penny you spent on it.

I know the controls are said to be pretty abysmal in StarFox: Zero but, fuck me, I'd saw off both hands so I don't have to play anymore of this if I could.

I just can't fathom who thought this was a good idea.

Urgh, why can't I just fly the sodding Arwing? This tank, and chicken robot and Gyroscope thang are all garbage to control and are terribly boring. And this fucking droid that pops out to "hack"...HNNNGH.

Just let me shoot shit in the fucking face.

Ok, I just want StarWing with these lovely graphics. That'd be enough for me. This is less than nothing.

Star Fox Zero managed to out-rubbish the wonky Star Fox game on the DS, and that says a lot. :(

There is a emulator out for Wii-U now

http://cemu.info/index.html

The site appears to do everything it can to put you off saying its experimental and not for general use. :)

I subscribe to this guy on YouTube as he does good Hyperspin and other emualtion stuff

He has done a video discussing what works as there was an emu update last week, looks like some games will work on the PC

I don't mind the motion controls to shoot but the dual screen is the real fuck up here. I'll just watch the TV and put up with inaccurate shooting but then it'll do something stupid to force me to look at the pad like removing the recticle from the screen and giving me a kooky camera angle for some ungodly reason. Ive taken to switching the main screen back and forth using the - button but it's still a mess.

You can pretty easily hack a Wii U then put games on a hard drive.

Or you can just use it for games you buy from the eShop.

So I gets that Super Mario 64 on the WiiU and because the resolution was ... 320x240 ... I've got a big ole black boarder and no options to resize the screen. Bloody Nintendo. I wish I'd have got an emulator or summats I bet they'd let me resize the screen.

And the camera is a bit of a nuisance as well. Trying to stomp the stump near the that first chain-chomp was a pain in the bottom.

And Mario is a real shit to just get him to stand in front of a sign where I can read it.

BEST GAME EVA!

I'll tell you something about Mario 64: the widely praised camera is dogshit. When I'm running around the mountain with boulders rolling down, the sodding camera that supposed to follow you won't turn at the corners and the manual camera is an arsehole to flip around when you're moving.

And another thing, I don't reckon the music is that hot either. It's not offensive but I always considered the Mario music to be on another level of catchy, jaunty awesome. This ain't exactly blowing me away. Mind you, I've only visited 4 stages out of the 15. Swimming is a fucking ball ache an' all but that's always a problem for 3D Mario until recent.

As my Wii U arrived today, I figured I'd transfer my data across from my Wii in case I couldn't access some of the stuff on my Wii U account. Bit of a faff with the SD card and switching between consoles, but almost worth it solely for the little Pikmin animations of them loading all your old data onto a rocket (ok, SD Card), to then fly it over to the Wii U. The little fellas are currently unloading it all now :)

This is a shame because there's quite a few WiiWare games that are exclusive and will vanish forever once the Wiishop goes down.

Indeed, was tempted to buy some on that video, but realized i won't be playing them as much.. should check soon if all games made it correctly from wii to wii u (had to delete them from sd card and redownload them to get them working)
