I will make a new thread for 80s stuff, as I have more to discuss.

Saw GotG2 again at the cinema. Might have even enjoyed it more the second time. The slower bits were less good, but I seemed to enjoy a lot of the comedy bits more. Odd. Either way, still great fun.

Also, all the trailers looked good!

The Last Jedi! Kingsman 2! Justice League (classic DC good trailer bad film likely, though I suspect Jason Momoa is going to steal the film as Aquaman and become a Rock-esque funny and cool tough guy staple)! Also some others, but all looked fun!

Speaking of trailers, I'm calling it now that the Wonder Woman film is going to be dogshit.

There's an animated version of the origin story on Amazon* Prime that covers the same ground and I quite enjoyed it.

The movie looks like all of the recent DC films though: Flashy and overly serious. Here's hoping for some heart.

The word of mouth coming from press screenings in the states is that it's very good and being hailed as the best DCU film so far. Granted, not a high watermark if you exclude Nolan.

The trailer for Baywatch was surprisingly funny. As was the first one. The movie might actually not suck (though this will largely depend on your tolerance for that kind of thing).

From the same people who made Horrible Bosses so I've got good vibes that it will be decent. Plus I reckon The Rock isn't a terrible actor at all, for the roles he gets.

Mrs Squirt has certain... "opinions" about both Mr The Rock and Zac Efron, and is heartily looking forward to watching this film.

T2: Trainspotting: A decent sequel that was fortunately much less depressing than its predecessor. Yeah, kinda alright, but could have done without the betrayal that was telegraphed with all of the subtly of a caber toss into your face.

Lego Batman: man, was I not in the mood for this. I didn't like the colours (like someone was smearing pastel crayons across my eyeballs) or the amount of action that was on screen at any one time (it was like Michael Bay's Transformers' transformer fights for lots of sequences). They can obviously animate lego really well so why ruin your shots with multiple amounts of eyefuckery. Still, it was reasonably well written with a couple of good laughs in there, it just lacked much heart for a kids film. A sigh then a light meh.

Oh and I watched Bitter Lake, the Adam Curtis documentary film on Afghanistan. A must see for anyone.

Fucking hell, apparently Zack Snyder's daughter committed suicide in March, poor bastard. He's stepping down from doing Justice League and Whedon's taking over for the final shoots and post-production.

I watched Shadow Dancer last night. Andrea Riseborough plays a woman in an IRA family who's heart doesn't seem to be in the bombings she takes part in and Clive Owen is her MI5 handler who turns her after she's caught at the start of the film. Not enough is really made of the relationship between the two leads and the tension never ratchets as high as it easily could so there feels like a loss of potential; but it's still very compelling stuff and doesn't outstay it's welcome. Also the ending properly dropped my jaw (though I suspect other less stupid people would've seen it coming). Highly recommended.

I'm disappointed that Shadow Dancer isn't a film about a ninja and his dog.

Is the mark of an absolutely amazing film a circular fade scene transition? I am 100% convinced that it is.

Watched some stuff on the plane this week.

Resident Evil The Final Chapter, or whatever the hell it's called. WHY DO I KEEP WATCHING THESE BLOODY FILMS. The first two were passable, but Jesus Christ, what on earth are they doing still making these things. And Ser Mormont is still in them! He must have hella gambling debts or something.

Great Wall - Holy crap, what? Silly South East Asian jumpy rope Crouching Tiger bollocks and Matt Damon and that guy from Game of Thrones, TOGETHER AT LAST?! Yes, it's exactly as terrible as that sounds.

John Wick 2 - very good, although there were a few bits where the fighting seemed rather contrived (it seemed people were just waiting for John to get up or turn around or whatever and then shoot them), there was an over-use of the jumpy throw thing and one bit where John would actually have shot himself in the foot in real life. It also seemed a little empty plot-wise. It was propelled by the charm of its protagonist and the style of the fighty fighty rather than any sort of real narrative. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but it left it feeling like it wasn't quite as good as it could have been.

Great Wall is ok, very nice to look at and it passes the time.

I'm off to see Peppa Pig at the cinema tomorrow morning with my son, it costs £5.00 for both of us and I should get between 30-45 minutes sleep during the film :)

Last time we watched Lego Batman and had to leave early as he said he was scared so I was woken up and told this! This is the same child who still tries to get on the back of swans at the local lake.

Back to more sensible film talk, will try and get Logan watched over the long weekend.

Last night I watched 'THE KILLING$ OF TONY BLAIR' on Netflix.

Now it does need to be stated upfront that it's fronted by Gorgeous George Galloway, who kickstartered £164K to get it made (from a target of £50K), but don't dismiss it on that basis alone.

It's essentially an unequivocal and not particularly nuanced (y'know, Galloway...) evisceration of Tony Blair and everything he never stood for, his destruction of the Labour Party, the hundreds of thousands killed in Iraq, and his monstrous hunger for cash once he'd left office.

It's a thoroughly sobering and ultimately a very upsetting watch, particularly as the cost in human lives of the illegal Iraq war is laid out in terrible detail.

Whilst there isn't anything particularly new in here, I've never seen an 'end-to-end' analysis of Blair put together in this way, and Galloway does interview many credible figures as part of the film, (including David Davis who essentially says that the war in Iraq is responsible for terrorism on our shores, in a way that Boris Johnson would doubtless find 'monstrous', I'm going to email the Guardian about it because it's a startlingly clear opinion from someone who's serving in the current government as a minister, someone should show it to Michael Fallon).

I wouldn't necessarily describe the film as 'entertaining', the atrocity of the Iraq war is almost too much to bear, but it is an important film and well worth watching.

Well this generally appears to be regarded as a good and worthwhile film, (it reviewed well, in the main), I'd say in spite of Galloway, rather than because of him.

A large percentage of the film is interviews with people from across the political spectrum, none of whom are George Galloway.

Oblivion was on tele sat night. Seen it before, and it was slightly less impactful knowing the reveal but still a really good film - enjoyable to watch.

Hivemind - is it OK to like Tom Cruise (as an actor)? I do....

Top Gun isn't a good movie by any stretch, but it's watchable and that's the main thing. I think it basically lives off that "80s nostalgia" feel, and that's fine.

I love Tom Cruise (as an actor, obvs) - he may have his faults, both on screen and off, but you cannot deny that he always puts 110% into his roles.
